“Fantastic place to stay. Great hospitality.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

I stayed here when doing the Youth March for Jobs from Stirling Castle to Glasgow, and the first thing to say is that the owner, Morag, was extremely welcoming and made us feel right at home.

The bedrooms clean, tastefully decorated, spacious and had en-suite bathrooms. The rooms were well stocked with tea, coffee and biscuits. The beds were also really comfortable.

I had the full Scottish breakfast in the morning, it was cooked perfectly and there was plenty of it, just what you need to set you up for a day’s walk.

The Best Foot Forward is fantastic value, and the invoice even contained a message of support for those on the march which was a lovely personal touch. Brilliant.

We have stopped at Best Foot Forward twice now in 2 years, prior to the West Highland Way. It was so good last year, that we came back again before doing the walk this year. The location is just a short walk from the railway station and the centre of town (start of the WHW). Morag is a wonderful B&B owner and she is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and well equipped, with tea/coffee and biscuits. I had a great night's sleep here. Of particular note is the breakfast at Morag's. The full scottish breakfast is a delight, but even better is the smoked scottish salmon and eggs. I love the fact that the breakfast tables are adorned in the flags of each persons nationality. We had Austrian and English flags on our table which was a lovely personal touch. I highly recommend best Foot Forward if you are ever stopping in Milngavie.

Morag's cheerful welcome began our 5 night stay in Best Foot Forward. We arrived before the start of our West Highland Way hike so we could also spend 2 days in Glasgow and 2 in Edinburgh. (We were very near the train station.) We found the room to be very fine and the breakfasts excellent. At breakfast each table has the flag of the people's country, and when she found out we were from Hawaii, the next morning an Hawaiian flag and USA flag graced our table. We were also able to use the computer. I felt right at home for our 5 nights and highly recommend Best Foot Forward. Helene S.

This is is a very professionally run, good B&B. Excellent room (no carpets – very sensible for hikers, wish more were like this), very good tips for the night out in cosmopolitan Milngavie ;-), very good breakfast (salmon and all!).

Theresa and I (David) were excited about walking the 96-mile West Highland Way with our son, Matthew, and his fiance, Melissa during the latter part of August, 2012. We were impressed right away with Morag McNeill, our hostess, as she so kindly gave the four of us the two downstairs bedrooms. This was very special as we had not seen Matthew and Melissa for eight months and it was the perfect start of our week together as we progressed along the WHW.

Morag, her husband, Lachie and Angela, welcomed us into their B&B with open arms and certainly provided a very warm environment for all the "WHW walkers". Since this was our first B&B experience, we were all pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. Bravo Moraq!!!!

The highlight of our stay was the morning gathering of walkers at the breakfast tables. This was the first chance that we had to meet the other people who were going to be walking the WHW. Morag had thoughtfully placed a National flag at each table to represent the country of origin for the people seated at the various tables and it was a challenge trying to guess where each pair or group of walkers hailed from. And the food at breakfast was great, even if I didn't like black pudding!!!

For those people who are planning to walk the West Highland Way with little of no preparation (and I do hope that anyone who is planning on walking the WHW does in fact do months of preparation), Morag has a large collection of resource books for the WHW as well as for all areas of Scotland. Morag also provided us with invaluable information about the poor condition of the WHW along the last part of Loch Lomond; this information proved to be quite accurate as the trail had indeed deteriorated badly due to the weeks of constant rain.

After completing our 96-mile walk to Fort William, we were all able to look back with pride at our accomplishment over the previous week. Matthew and I had walked the entire 96 miles, Theresa had completed 48 miles and Melissa ran the entire 96 miles. It had all begun at Best Foot Forward B&B in Milngavie and ended with a picture of us standing in the rain at the original end of the West Highland Way in Fort William. This entire experience was a dream come true for me due to my Scottish heritage and it was made all the more special as I shared it with my wife, my son and my future daughter-in-law.

Lovely welcome and nice big room but not as good as expected. Breakfast was ok, not excellent, but was hoping for better standard after reading other reviews. Bed was very uncomfortable which was a major let down.

What a superb week we've spent at Morag's! She and her lovely husband, and team mate Angela, couldn't have helped us more! Our room was clean and very comfy! All the 'wee' Morag extras made the week a truly super experience. Breakfasts and the packed lunches were awesome!!!!! We used the railway station in Milngavie, where the very friendly station master, Duncan, was of a great help! We used the superb rail network to easily travel into Glasgow, and we traveled on the World famous West Highland lines to Oban (a lovely town) and Fort William. A trip by train across the desolation of Rannoch Moor is a must if you want to see the real, non touristy, Scotland. Miles of desolation and loneliness! Morag and her team deserve a lot of praise! What an ideal way to see Glasgow and the West Coast, or begin the West Highland Way, whether you walk or take the easy option and use the train!
Thanks Morag, we crown you the BandB Queen of Milngavie, if not Scotland!!!!!
