“Seniors Retreat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

We have just spent a week in this hotel and it was our first time in Majorca. The hotel was very good the rooms were clean and well presented , the food was of a very high standard but we have one critisim of the dining room. The number of staff on duty in the dining room was very low and this meant that both breakfast and dinner time we had to queue for a table. There were tables free but not enough staff to clear and reset the tables. Queueing was ver disorganised people were being asked to sit in the lounge area and others were being asked to stand in line you can imagine tis caused a few minor problems. The staff did there best and remained friendly under the circumstances. I would advise people that if they want to sit on their balcony in the evening to be wary about laughing and talking. We are four senior citizens and one evening at 10.15pm we were doing just that and we recieved a call from reception saying that they had a complaint from the next room that we were being noisey.I could not believe it The people next door who were in a younger age bracket from us thought that we should all be in bed by 10pm. I did complain to the management that I felt that this complaint was unjustified and he agreed as the rules of the hotel are no noise after midnight. Overall I would recommend the hotel to friends.

Well, this hotel left us with very mixed feelings. The rooms were rather small and seem to be clean from the first look. However, after finding dying cockroaches in our bathroom, certainly you would question the cleanness of the hotel. After complaining at the reception and asking for another room at the top floor (with a hope that cockroaches wouldn’t be able to reach us up there), I was told by a receptionist (named Bass) that there are no rooms available and he can only send a cleaner to put some chemicals into a room. I told him that I have two kids and I am not happy with this solution. Then he said he can’t do anything about it. I demanded to see a manager who told me that the hotel is fully booked and the only thing they can offer is to do a ‘deep’ cleaning of the room. I was not happy with this solution either and insisted on giving me a new room. Then, he offered me to stay at another Iberostar hotel for one night (just across the street) and to come back in one day. I had no option but to accept this offer. This arrangement certainly took 2 days out of our holidays and made a lot of hassle. However, being left with a chance to stay in the same room was not an option either. We had to check out at 12:00 and check in at 15:00 twice, and wait at the lobby for 3 hours (twice) for our new ‘clean’ room. Just imagine this with a three months old baby. After several complaints we were given a room to change a baby. However, it seems like they were doing us a big favour and we should appreciate that. Especially, the receptionist Bass, who was very ignorant and rude. He should definitely work on his attitudes that are appropriate for a four star hotel.
In whole, I can’t blame the cleaners; they worked very hard and cleaned our room very well. Obviously they put some chemicals in the room because both times when we found the cockroaches they were dying… We do appreciate the plate of fruits that was left in our room probably as ‘compensation’. Despite this, I felt that I had to write this review just because people cannot be treated this way and something has to be done. In my review, I will give to this hotel one star, however, it is not because of its facilities and restaurant but due to these incidents and the way we were treated.

The indoor swimming pool was very good, especially for kids. The Wi-Fi was very expensive – 7 euro per day. In the restaurant they had a great variety of starters, fruits and dishes. However, every time we ate in this restaurant we were unconsciously thinking about the possibility that the cockroaches migrated from there.

Will we come back to this hotel? No! By the way I am not sure if Antonio Banderas who advertises Iberostar chain would be happy to find a cockroach in his bathroom.

The room was very basic and in, lets say, well worn condition. But the worse part of it was the ants. The place was infested with ants! The room had a small kitchen and a dining table but we could not use it because of all the ants. Hundreds of them crawling over the kitchenette and dining table.

We booked an apartment because we have two young kids, but they would not sleep on the sofa beds because of the ants in the main room. We complained about this and we were told, ‘oh yes we know, sorry…’ I would never return to this place for this reason alone.

We had bed and breakfast, and the breakfast buffet was reasonable. One night we decided to try the evening buffet in the hotel because we were leaving very early the next day. This was very poor quality. We paid almost 90€, including drinks, for two adults and two children and the food and choice was bad. Especially for children there was virtually nothing apart from Chips and a decent desert counter! There was one variety of pizza that looked like small prawn, ham and some kind of green vegetable. Who eats that, let alone a kid!!??

Although its out of season now the resort of Playa de Palma was run down, and derelict and overpriced. I imagine its more busy during summer but I will not be returning to find out. The aquarium is a good day trip out but its still expensive.

Dear guest,

We are very grateful that you took the time to post your comments. We have read them carefully. Your opinion is very important and valuable. We are convinced that this is the best way to gain your trust for Iberostar. It is our goal to achieve excellence in our daily work and no one better than our guests can indicate us how to improve day after day.

First off all we would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused by the exceptional difficulties with the ants. We would however like to inform you that we do have in place an established infestation treatment plan and we are working intensely on this specific problem of ants. We have in fact largely resolved this problem now, given the vast expanse of gardens, which provide our guests with a huge internal open space. In the event of a localized infestation in a room, our Housekeeping department undertakes an in-depth cleansing in conjunction with an adequate treatment.

We are aware that the Iberostar Royal Cristina isn´t of new construction, nevertheless, we maintain and preserve it the best we can. We strive to offer comfortable accommodation to all our guests and therefore we count with the services of our technical department that is more than willing to remedy any little failure produced at the hotel.

Further, we regret that the buffet prepared by our recognized chef who only uses products of good quality let you down. We passed your comments to the chef and we are already revising our procedures in order to meet our highest standards of quality in food. We are very grateful that you highlighted the marvelous breakfast and rich dessert counter and we are happy you enjoyed it.

We are very sorry to hear that you have no intention to return, as for us the lost of a guest is tragic and we would be delighted to may serve you again to make a definitive and lasting good impression on you. This is why we would be honored to receive you once more, assuring in advance our utmost care and attention in order to satisfy all your expectation.

Faithfully yours,

First of all I want to emphasize that we are not that kind of people who wait for something to happen on their holiday so they can write back home on tripadv. with no reason. All our reasons made me to write to you, to all who want to make an opinion about this hotel. I wish that someone with an objective point of view would write something about this hotel before we ended up paying for the holiday here, but unfortunately no one did, so here we are in our first day of holiday, entering in this ”4 stars room”, with furniture brought from the 80’, with a smell from back then too-all was humid and moldy, with beds like in hospitals on wheels, with a television witch you could’n find even on the vintage stores, with air conditioning which started only when it wanted to start and full of mold as you can see in the photos. We were amazed how Spanish authorities in turism qualified this hotel to be a 4 star!!! We had sand stone on the floor witch I have never seen in the 4 stars hotels, all the power sources were ripped apart from the walls, and the bathroom had the same level with the room. And above all, we had a small kitchen in the room with a sink and a stove witch both would’n work. But WTFK??!!! A kitchen in the room when the room we payed for had a toilet table instead and a mirror (photos of the rooms on the hotel’s website)??!!! and the room supposed to be a 4 star one?!!! Why? when we had Half Board and we didn’t pay for camping?!
When we complained to the reception, they told us that was the room we chose back home and that is not their fault. So we wanted to change the room with another which was consider superior. After 2 nights, and 60 euros plus, we were able to move into a new room that hadn’t kitchen but the toilet table, was bigger, and had carpet on the floor. The room was better but still wasn’t a 4 star hotel.
And another thing: it is a hotel for old people and families!!! So think well before choosing this ‘’amazing 4 star hotel”.

Room Tip: Choose not the standard room, but the next level of rooms

Dear Bianca,

We would like to express our gratitude for the comments you made about your recent visit. They help us to understand how our guests experience their stay with us. It is always our goal to achieve customer satisfaction and therefore our guest´s reviews are of prime importance. We continuously strive to deliver high standards and to ensure that everybody leaves with beautiful vacation memories.

Regarding the comfort the exquisite rooms with panoramic views of the bay of Palma, which can be seen from the balconies or terraces and their equipment, we would like to apologies that on this occasion it could not satisfy you.

Also, we would like to come back on your comment regarding our target groups. This hotel for all ages has a great program of organized entertainment under the supervision of the hotel's entertainment staff. Activities, facilities, musical performances and shows at day and night make the ideal complement for a family holiday in Playa de Palma. But also if you prefer to travel as a couple, with friends or on your own, this pleasant and inviting hotel is located near the airport and is a starting point from which you can discover one of the major tourist destinations of Majorca: la Playa de Palma. Quiet and surrounded by Mediterranean pines trees, the Iberostar Royal Cristina Aparthotel provides an infinite range of sporting activities and leisure options as well as the chance to relax with a massage or treatment at the SPA Sensations THAI ZEN. This is all within a short distance of the capital, Palma, a must-visit city, and undoubtedly one of the most complete holiday options.

Nevertheless, we understand that for you this might not be the best location for your dream holiday. Therefore we would like to point out that we have different types of accommodation at disposal and for coming occasions, we would like to offer you a very personal booking guidance through our call center, to make sure you become what you actually desire. We also invite you to visit our web page as it can orient you when planning your next holiday.

Once more, we would like to thank you for your preference in selecting the Iberostar Royal Cristina for your vacation, as well as for taking the time to tell us about your recent stay.

Sincerely yours,

Generally good location, friendly staff. Rooms are not sound proof. Easy access to the beach and restaurant (El Patio which is just outside the hotel is a great restaurant with good food at very reasonable price).

Good services from reception, Activity staff, chambermaid and staff working at the breakfast room.

we chose this hotel which was expensive because it catered more for German/ Dutch guests than British. I mistakenly thought they would be better behaved. How wrong I was. Scruffy, bad mannered greedy with loads of screaming, badly behaved children and babies still around at 1030 pm. The hotel cannot choose the guests but this lot were rather uncouth , to say the least. The hotel staff were very polite but fawned over some of the German guests. I shall not be going there again, a GREAT disappointment.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the pool. Then you can watch the shows on the balcony and avoid the screaming...
