Was unfortunately moved to this hotel from their sister hotel Hotel whala!balmes at check-in stage because of a "problem" that was so dire they couldn't notify of us in advance, as an apology they up-graded us to full board for the one night stay. I was travelling with my wife and 13 month old son.

Immediately after check-in I asked the person I was dealing with if she could pre-order a taxi with a child seat for a airport transfer early the next morning, and she said that it could be organised at short notice the next morning and it would take only 5 minutes to arrive, all I had to do was see the person on the desk early the next morning. I guess that she was expecting us to be gone by the time she arrived in the next morning - needless to say her "assurances" were, well, not quite as she expressed them to be!

The room we got was fine in size, complete with a cot for the baby! Problem was there was a safety catch which was missing, but by turning the cot around and placing it against the bed it offered some form of safety from the baby falling onto the tiled floor. There was a tv in the room, but no remote. I subsequently learnt from TA that a deposit is required and the tv was mostly German content.

The problem with the cot was not the first child-unfriendly experience of our one night stay. When we went down for dinner we were told that they had no child seats and that they would arrive tomorrow, at least that's what I think they said, as I don't speak German or Spanish and they don't speak English. The entire area is exclusively catered towards the German market - all notices and signs were in German only. Though I would assume that the German guests would have to have guessed, just like us, what it was we were eating from the buffet, as there was no indication what was on offer. The only thing that looked like meat (my guess was lamb) wasn't very good. I ate one slice and genuinely worried about having the trots in time for my flight the next day.

The resort itself does not cater for children (or old infirm people for that matter) as they have very narrow footpaths, in most parts too narrow to allow the narrowest of buggies. None of the hotels or restaurants have children's menu's.

On the plus side, the two bar/restaurant guys tried their best in our few minutes exchange, even if they did speak broken German, and the shower was decent, otherwise, not a place for non-German speaking families with small children.

Room Tip: Sprechen Sie Deutsch? If not forget it!

Just come back from a great week in Mallorca. My Mum and I stayed at Ambos Mundos and cannot fault the hotel. The location is ideal. Just a 5 minute walk from the beach. 2 minutes from the bus stop, where the nr 15 and 25 goes every ten minutes to Palma Town. You could set your watch by these buses they are so regular, on time and spotlessly clean. The Hotel served a great breakfast, and the staff were so efficient and friendly. Room was great, nice view from the balcony, very little noise from the beach front as it is set slightly back from the beach, and absolutely no noise from aeroplanes coming and going from the aiport not far away. Air condition was great and the shower was really good. We liked that the hotel had 24 hr reception and was well lit and within easy safe access from the beach front, we felt very safe walking back to the hotel each night. All the staff were helpful and pleasant. I admit that the hotel has seen better days and is in need of a facelift, and could do with a quilt on the bed instead of just a sheet,(mind you, we did sleep with the air condition on!) however all the good points strongly outway the shabbiness, so if you dont mind putting up with a bit of shabby in return for a comfy, friendly, perfectly located hotel with a good breakfast then Ambos Mundos is the hotel to choose :)
