“great week”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

Just home from la pinita basic apartments, but clean and friendly staff, very well located for shopping, eating out, especially café o la on the beach about 5minutes walk from apartments turn right when you come out and its up on your left, great lunch and evening meals, as well as great views, girls on outside well informed as menus, staff brilliant. Bodega in old town great meal, also Da Vinci just as good. Spinnaker up the hill on right side, about 2 roads on rhs after pinita. ONLY COMPLAINT we decided to book a taxi back to airport through last minute travel on the strip, paid up front, we are still waiting for it, very bad service, unreliable, eventually we asked reception to get us one it arrived in minutes excellent service thank you.

Room Tip: We had 2nd floor room ,view of sea, quiet even though we could see main strip, pub.

We booked directly with the hotel and found this the cheapest option.

Arrived around 8pm and shown to our room by the man on reception. We were in room 188 just to the right of the reception, behind the pool toilet block. I had emailed ahead and requested a sea view room and this is what we got!! Great room as right by access for strip and easy for pool through the day. Only downside was we had the sun in the morning instead of the afternoon and it was a bit too chilly to sit in the evenings when we were there so didn't use as much as we would have liked.

Apartment itself was a lot bigger than expected! We didn't eat in much so never used the equipment but seemed to be fully stocked, washing up liquid and sponge provided also!

You can see other people in their bathrooms if both your vents are open. Not only that, you can also hear and smell everything!! Not the best but you do get used to it. Strange layout though.

No air con but there was a large standing fan in the living area which we moved to the bedroom and this did us fine for through the night. I'm not sure I could have stood it any hotter without air con though - it was sweltering in May.

Maid service was very frequent - 5 times a week I think - which was good but not really needed in my opinion. The rooms were clean and tidy but I don't think the floor was ever washed - dirty feet constantly!! Apart from this, pretty perfect.

It was my OH's 40th while we were in PDC and the hotel left us a box of chocolates and a lovely note.

Hotel was in a great location and had many different exits, which we found over the week. The shops near by sell beer and wine for very cheap (small cans of San Miguel 59c for example) so stock up on there for your room!!

We had no problem with sun loungers (we stayed May 5-12th) but we did notice it becoming busier our last couple of days with people starting to turn up for the Ironman the following weekend.

The weekend was the busiest as the locals descended on the hotel and took over the pool - one family (of about 15) were so load and constantly shouted at each other, kids dive bombing in the pool, fighting and using the water feature of the pool as a climbing frame (literally climbing inside of it). The adults took no notice and sat around smoking (and putting the remains down the drains!!) and sleeping. As there is no one from the hotel supervising, it went on all day and we had 2 very short days by the pool. Not sure of this is a regular weekend thing or just a one off?!

We used the pool bar most days we were there, €2 for a beer (Tropical) or about €4 for a Magners or Kopparberg. The food was delicious!! We had breakfast there once (€3.50 not inc drinks) and also tried the toasted sandwiches, salad and normal sandwiches - huge portions and all fresh (see my photos). The 3 people (Lauren, Luke - the owners - and a younger guy) who work there were so friendly and always came over for a chat.

Check out was 12 noon which was pretty good and there are shower facilities in the reception to use so we didn't feel the need to book a late check out.

We tended to turn right out of the hotel and head down the strip towards Golden Corner and onwards to American Indian area (as it was busier and stayed open later) and for this reason only I would look to stay at an apartment at the other end of the strip for our next visit.

Arrived here yesterday and I must say it has surpassed our expectations. The apartment is perfect. Nice and quiet and yet right in the centre of things. Reception are very helpful and the apartment is fully equipped. The pool is well maintained and is never too busy. They do not allow booking of sunbeds so no early morning rush and as a result there are plenty to go around. Highly recommended.

This is a good budget hotel with a nice pool area and in a decent location. Rooms are clean but basic. Beds are a bit uncomfy. It appeared to be predominantly for older couples and families.
We were a stag do of 12 in our mission 30s. We were miffesd to receive complaints within a few hours of arriving about 'banging doors'. The wind has blown a few shut but nothing more. The staff dealt with it well to be fair and we had no other issues for the duration of ourbrhree day stay as we tried to be as respect full as possible. Hotel has a decent bar area with football on and basic food.

La Penita is in a very good location, in the newer part of Puerto Del Carmen. Just 15 euro in a taxi from the airport and a very short walk to the 'strip'.

Apartments are large, basic but clean - they are cleaned daily except for Wednesdays and Sundays. The only 'issue' I had was the toilet smelt awful the whole stay, even after the cleaner had been in - it needed a good dose of bleach!! The apartments have everything you need to make a snack and drinks. Our room overlooked the pool and we had the sun on the large balcony for a large part of the day. We were able to see the people putting their towels down on the sun beds as early as 7am (sometimes earlier). Although this didn't cause a problem to us as there were always plenty of sunbeds, it was very annoying that some people showed up late in the day or one chap never showed up at all (apart from pegging his towel out in the morning and taking it away early evening!!!). I should imagine reserving of sunbeds may be an issue in the peak of season, and Le Penita should regulate this. Although they give you a note on check in asking us to help them by not reserving beds, this is the only thing they appear to do.

The pool area is well maintained, and people clean the pool every morning. The general grounds to La Penita are also well maintained.

The pool bar was taken over during the time we were there - prices for food changed and were quite a lot more expensive than from when the previous people were there. We did not eat here so cannot comment on the food, however there was a good choice of food from breakfasts, to sandwiches, to burgers. Drinks were reasonably priced at 2 euro a pint. Although we called in for a drink on a few occasions during the day, and my husband went in to watch the football matches, we didn't feel it was a place you would visit for any other reason (unlike previous accommodation where we were staying in Lanzarote that had a brilliant atmosphere and happy hour).

There's an array of restaurants along the strip, all of a good standard but 'much of a muchness' - chinese, indian, mexican, italian. Tapas/spanish is hard to come by!

I would recommend La Penita if you are wanting to holiday in Puerto del Carmen. It was cheap and cheerful, and we had a lovely relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Room 125 overlooks the pool and has the sun early morning to mid afternoon.

Situated one street back from and approx half way along the wonderful promenade ; so u can easily turn right or left for a pleasant stroll. Staff are very helpful, rooms spacious, clean and overall a quiet place to enjoy a sunny break . Good pool and plenty of beds . An extra umbrella or two would help . Been before and will continue to come back .

Great location - not far from the beach, bars and restaurants.

Pool bar is worth a try for lunch if having a day by the pool. Reasonable prices and good quality.

We chatted to people by the pool who had come back year on year as it has everything you need.
