“Better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

After a 10 minute transfer we arrived to be greeted by very pleasant reception staff. Our room 253, in the main building had a bit of a sea view, was quiet but got no sun at all. This would be good in July but not in December. Room was large, very clean and with a good bathroom. Never done A I before but very pleasantly surprised. Coca Cola, Fanta, sparkling water, tea, including peppermint etc all on tap. Coffee terrible! The wine was not bad as were the cocktails. Large bottles of still water available at reception(all free).
Food-- lots of choice to suit everyone, plenty of fruit and veg too. Lunch and dinner choices a bit similar so you could do with planning your day eg maybe salad etc at lunch and then go for some of the hot options at dinner. Fish plentiful. We visited both the Mexican restaurant and the Asian restaurant twice. They had a nice atmosphere and were quieter than the main restaurant.Food in them quite good.( no charge for these restaurants by the way).
Lots going on around the pool, even in December-- volleyball, water aquatics, rifle shooting, acrylic painting workshop, boules for example and a mini club for the children. My major disappointment was that all the outside tables had smokers and also people smoked on their sunbeds. There were no chairs actually outside to sit without smoke billowing around. This meant that at breakfast we sat inside which was a shame. There is a gate opening onto the prom and walks in both directions or buses to Arrecife and beyond and Puerto Del Carmen in the other direction (old port very nice). Definitely a good holiday( apart from the smoke) and we would go again

Room Tip: I wouldn't have liked to have been in the annex across the bridge. Best rooms I would say were o...

My one and only experience of an all inclusive holiday was several years ago and was not a very happy experience. So I was a little worried when I booked this hotel in Lanzarote. The hotel was very large but never felt over crowded. Our room was quite a walk from the dining room and in the old part of the hotel - formerly "The Palace". The room was large and beutifully furnished in a style not seen in modern hotels. There was a stunning reception area - wood paneling, bevelled mirrors and marble floors with plenty of seats. I wonder why this area could not be used as a piano bar as the original reception desk would have made a lovely bar - all down to money I assusme. The dining room was buffet service and the food was excellent. Wine, beer and soft drinks were all available on a help-yourself-basis and the main bar was open every day from 10.30am to midnight with all drinks being very large!! My only criticism was that the entertainment on the whole was poor but that certainly did not spoil the holiday. We were so impressed that we are already planning a return visit next year.

Room Tip: If you do not mind a 7 - 8 minute walk to the dining room ask for a room in The Palace.

We ended up coming back to this Hotel on the 4th of November.

Normally we would not come back to the same place so fast but because we wanted to visit Lanzarote again and go ALLINC we came back here, mainly because we feel it offers the best value for money if you want all in and are coming PDC.

The food was virtually the same as it was back in August which is no bad thing, if you are used to All Inclusive holidays around Europe/Spain then i am sure you will like this place.

Can i add now, IF you are used to RIU Hotels in place like Mexico, The Caribbean etc dare i even add the likes of Lara Beach Hotels in Turkey and are expecting the same level of quality here then the chances are you will be disappointed! if thats what you crave then you need to go back there!

Anyway back back to the holiday, again we had a very good time, and would recommend to just about anyone, the entertainment is very hit and miss in my opinion but again the vast majority of guests seemed to love it, every night.

The only people i would advise to look else where would be anyone wanting a very lively evening in the hotel, booming night clubs at the hotel or nearby etc, the hotel in the summer was very family friendly and relaxed, and even more so this time of year.

Would we come again any time soon, the answer is yes, but having been twice to Lanzarote and PDC now i think we might go self catering, NOT because it will be any cheaper overall or the because food drink was poor, because its not! but because there are a lot of places to eat and drink at very reasonable prices, and could spend the same overall amount of money going SC.

Room Tip: email the hotel before you go and try and get a room in the 200 to 500 block, you will be in the mai...

Arrived at the Riu (first timers) polite reception staff always helpful. Emailed the hotel before hand but never received a reply. Room was the dreaded "OTHER SIDE" of the Gang Plank! but not such a bad thing as it was nice and quiet at night got the sunshine all day and evening and the walk wasn't that bad, tho the wooden slats meant I had to wear flats then change into my heels the other end!. I imagine that the wood is slippery when wet even if its light rain! and I did twist my ankle where the slats have gaps. Room Average we kept it tidy and clean so only needed beds made and towels changed and toilet rolls. Food was average same as Barcello hotels no idea why everyone "Raves" about it very much the same every day. Why they WATER down the fruit juices I don't know but it spoilt it for us YUK! Oh and sparkling water was flat a lot of the time if served from a jug. Staff were plesant. Wine DREADFUL, Spirits were basic nothing tasted good except the equiv baileys or la Mumba's. Coffee was dreadful tho coffee in restaurant was ok. Tables were cleaned quite quickly on one side yet on the other side I sat with two plates infront of me for ages! Table staff always polite tho! and they ALL work hard!
Asian, Canary and Mexican restaurants were nice as a break, nice atmosphere especially if you are just there as a couple, food was ok tho I did see a cockroach running across the floor on the Canary night on our second to last night! Told the waitress ( well pointed) and she said Oh and stamped on it! end of ... Thank God I had already eaten! .... No complaints about sunbeds but yes you would have to be up early if you wanted anything special. Pools were checked all the time excellent! clean towels on hand. Central to the town so a lovely walk after meals recommend that!
Weather was dodgy first few days but that just meant we went out more which was nice. Lovely Irish pub down road with Caroline and her daughter Kerry! All in all nothing bad to say about the Rui but just wondered what all the fuss was about? it was more a 3 star hotel in my mind. Most feedbacks were positive and people keep coming back year after year, not something we will be doing ( tho location can't fault it ) Entertainment OK the team work hard that's for sure! Only saw one good show tho ...rest were ok. If you are on a second or subsequent visit to the hotel you do get spoilt a little ... of course we didn't as it was our first(and last) visit. Was bitten 8 out of 10 nights!!! HATED that! could have had something there to deter the mossies surely? people were complaining and one poor girl was bitten to bits! all over her body including her face!. Some Piped music would have been nice or a piano bar or pianist close to bar area would have been refreshing. Met some lovely Germans, French, Finnish and Northerners that was nice. Wouldn't particularly recommend the hotel but haven't anything really bad to say about it, horses for courses really '') Bring some mossie cream (prevention is better than cure! ) oh and some throat spray! hubbie ended up with a real bad throat and maybe some indigestion or heartburn liquids! Long trousers to prevent bites! Don't take a chance. All in all enjoyed our stay but really it wasn't all that special. Have a wonderful Holiday if you book up and make your own minds up (smiles) ..........

Room Tip: Definately email before you travel and read all hints and tips! They never responded to my email but...

Hotel was stunning, staff can not do enough for you, rooms are cleaned every day, such a relaxing chilled out place a pure heaven.
Entertainment staff fantastic, restaurant staff will bend over backwards to help you.
Had the best week ever people moaning about small noise and hard beds is unreal when that's a tiny thing compared to the cleanliness, friendless, helpfulness and all round atmosphere of the hotel
Fantastic best holiday ever never felt better and this was well deserved
Hotel staff and travel staff fantastic
Thank you sooooo much

The hotel is nice and clean and staff a mixture of Spainish and German. It is currently a combination of two hotels of two different decors with one being the more dominant offering more facilities. A "bridge" joins the two hotels together. The food is very samey and doesn't change daily however there is plenty of choice. There are activities available both night and day however the evening entertainment is limited and aimed at the older customer. Customers within the hotel tended to be older and German.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a pool side view.
