“Excellent Value and large appartments well kept and clean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2011

Large appartments. Very clean and quiet, other than if the neighbours get a bit noisy but this can happen anywhere. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, room 1114 which was well away from the main building and had a pool view. Very pleased with the standard, layout and position of our room.

i can understand why there had been some complaints about the studios, as some of them do face onto the roadside, which can sometimes be noisy, but we never experienced any of that.

One bad thing is that there are a lot of improvement works being done to the street the appartments are on and therefore it was sometimes a tricky route down to the beach and the bars etc with our little one in her buggy, but this is obviously not the fault of the appartments themselves and i suppose will be finished, eventually. It's worth mentioning simply because for those with a buggy it can sometimes be a difficult street to walk down and for anyone in a wheelchair, i would say at the moment, it would be pretty impossible.

The wee one loved the mini disco and the pools all had lifeguards and i would definately go back to thes appartments and they were as good an appartment as i have ever stayed in. Last year we stayed in a 4 star self catering appartment in menorca and the Cinco Plazas were much better.

Have visited Lanzarote a few times as a couple but first stay as a family holiday in Cinco Plazas in May 2010 on a bed and breakfast basis - short trip fom airport max 10 mins. Very spacious clean ground floor poolside appartment. Our 5 year old enjoyed the well run Kids club and mini disco. Small playground and three swimming pools on site, Reptile show one evening. Children's entertainer was good and ensured they had alot of fun dancing and playing games. Hyperdino supermarket just down the street at end of block, Short walk to beach. Pool side snack bar very good value for pizza, sandwiches etc. We dined out every evening and didn't use restaurant only for breakfasts. it was fine with a good selection available. The sun, sea, sand, helped us enjoy this holiday and the Cinco Plazas was a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful island of lanzarote which is a biosphere reserve with unique volcanic landscapes.I would recommend doing some tours Volcano one and Cezar Manriques treasures.. A photogapher's dream. We are returning 08 May 2011 and have booked Cinco Plazas with Falcon travelshop for two weeks with flights from Cork, Ireland. Cant wait !

Room Tip: Ideal family base to explore beautiful Lanzarote

I've just returned from the Cinco Plazas with my husband and two children aged 7 and 4yrs. The complex is lovely. All of the pools are lovely and clean with lots of sunbeds. There is even a lifeguard which I thought was fantastic. Staff are very friendly and the prices at the pool bar are very reasonable for drinks and food.
The location is good and we loved puerto del carmen with its vast choice of places to eat and lovely family cocktail bars.
However unlike other reviews our room wasn't very clean. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment which was very spacious just not very clean. When we arrived there was lots of hair on the floor (not ours) also bread crumbs all over the sofa and on the floor. The bedrooms were ok but the bathroom was disgusting. The toilet was dirty and so was the floor. The bath itself was stained brown. I did report this to reception and the cleaners came and mopped the floors and stuck a load of bleach down the loo. I have to say this really didn't solve the problem but I didn't complain again we just sorted it ourselves. I do think maybe we were just unlucky as a guest there was telling me that some rooms had been refurbished with new bathrooms and a lick of paint obviously ours wasn't one of them! I'm sorry to say that wouldn't return to the Cinco Plazas but I would love to go back to Lanzarote. The island is lovely for a family holiday.

Our 2 bedroom apartment was spacious and overlooked one of the smaller pools, couldn't fault the location or size of the apartment. Never had a sun bed issue always plenty available. Hill is not too steep didn't cause us any problems. Great location only 5 mins from the beach and local restaurants/bars and a 10 min transfer from the airport.

Supermarket next to the hotel stocked everything we needed at reasonable prices. Rented a car from Carlos who ran the car hire shop opposite 50 euro for 2 days, excellent value fitted the 5 of us and went round the whole island on half tank petrol.

Apartments were cleaned 6 days out of 7 and sheets changed once, towels twice, this we found quite adequate, noise could be heard from other apartments but as i wear ear plugs this not an issue for me and kids aged 5, 10 and 13 never complained about being woken by noise.

Overall I would recommend these apartments to family's and couples looking for a good base to explore Puerto Del Carmen and Lanzarote, we had a great time and would definately return.

I cant believe all the negative reviews ive just read. Me and my partner have just got back from cinco plaza and i have to say it was the best holiday ive ever had! everyone has their views and i cant argue against some comments but here is my thoughts of the hotel. We had a studio apartment on the upper floor, not the biggest but fine for what we needed. The first morning we woke up and there had been a thunder storm during the night (due to the fact this was the coldest weather theyve had in march for 40 years) so we rang reception and they were up within 5 minutes to sort it out. (staff there are very friendly) the hill is not that steep. Fair enough if you have mobility problems or a push chair it could be quiete challenging however we found it fine! literally 5 minute walk down to the sea front where you will fnd all the bars and restaurants so your in the best area possible in puerto del carmen. Pre warning however, dont book any excursions with your holiday rep, you will find days out much cheaper with last minute travel which is just along the strip. I did find on our holiday that there was a LOT of scandanavians however i didnt see them as a problem, none of them seemed rude. Whenever we were round the pool there was quiete a lot of reserved loungers however. People would even leave theire towels on th loungers while it rained to make sure that when the sun came back out, they had a bed. I really recommend tequila bar! it has amazing food and amazing atmosphere, children welcome too. Back to the hotel...we never found any major issues with this hotel at all! if we needed anything then staff was there to help. Never ate at the restaurant so cant really comment on the food, drinks were pricey but you get a lot for what you pay (alcohol) i couldnt fault the hotel at all and will most definately be back again next year! try not to use the shop next to the accomadation as it is quiet expensive, there is a supermarket (super dino) which is round the corner from the hotel and is cheap enough

We chose the Cinco Plaza based on trip advisor reviews and were glad we did. Our transfer coach stopped at some other much less attractive looking places en route! The location was much more central than some places and the hill is really not bad (unless you have mobility problems anyway). It was quite a walk from the old town but there were plenty of places to eat and drink as soon as you reached the sea front. Our rep had recommended Pinnochios but my husband ended up with food poisening from there so I would suggest avoiding it.

We had been given everything we asked for in the apartment location and the cot we requested. We had a good view looking west over the quieter place de montagne pool - we could see some of the units would just be looking at the wall and I can only suggest that if you arrive and get one of these, ask to change straight away. Staff were very helpful with anything we needed (including the safe being reset twice).

Although only a one bedroom apartment, I thought the living area was spacious compared to others I have seen. The balcony was a good size, the bathroom was a bit small but well set up and the shower was suprisingly good. It was all mainly very clean, with maid service every day. Most things were in good condition, but my biggest complaint would be that the mattresses were not very comfortable. I think they knew this and had put mattress toppers on which I found worse than the mattress itself! You could feel the springs through the mattress but at least you weren't sinking into a bit of plastic which was hot and squeaked. Again, I think that if you complained and requested a new mattress you may get one. I would certainly request an upstairs room as I can imagine its very noisy to be in a room below and their balconies get less sun. We also felt that our things were safer upstairs, and it was worth carrying the pushchair and baby up a few external stairs each day for those reasons.

We steered well clear of the entertainment and didn't use the restaurant so I can't comment on those but the drinks from the bar weren't great - they served the canarian equivalent of rola cola rather than branded!

The shop on site does have some essentials like nappies and tissues and is fine for a bottle of water and some bread when you first get there but as soon as you get sorted, go to hiperdino just down the road instead - much cheaper and bigger and its literally at the end of the hotel block so about an extra minute's walk.

We didn't experience the same problems as another reviewer with people being unfriendly but its true they do camp out by the pool at all hours and in all weather so if you want to be by the pool then be prepared to squeeze in amongst the hardcore.

Overall, glad we chose these apartments and they were reasonable value for money in a friendly complex.

We are just back from 2 weeks at Cinco Plaza/Puerto del Carmen. We are a family with a 3 year old child and this was our third trip to the Canaries with our daughter.
I will try and review this place as honestly and accurately as I can:

APARTMENT
1. Our apartments was clean, view was not great for ours as we were given an end-of-row ground floor apartment always in the shade. Bedroom view was to a wall and front view to another wall and walkway. The bedroom can get very hot at night, even in early March and we had to sleep with the window open.
The kitchen is functional and well equipped for basic meals, there is a microwave oven, kettle, toaster, filter coffee maker.

2. Apartment was cleaned almost every day, we missed a few days as the cleaner kept on coming either when our child was taking her afternoon nap (around 1PM) or when we were having breakfast (around 8 AM). Finally they realized that they were better off coming between 9AM and 1PM.
Towels were changed at least 3 times per week, sheets were changed twice in two weeks.

3. Bathroom is on the small side but functional, shower is pretty good and there seems to be plenty of hot water.

4. The floors are tiled, which is great for general cleanliness but bad if your apartment is on the ground floor. On our second week there we were graced by incredibly noisy guests upstairs who would walk around until 4 AM in their heels, watch TV, move furniture/chairs around the place and listen to music until dawn. Complained to reception but nothing was done about it. The tiled floors do not help with sound insulation.

POOL AREA
1. We only used the kids' pool located in Plaza del Sol. In general this area was reasonably clean except for some of the guests who let their young children swim in the pool naked .. with inevitable accidents (we found floating "accidents" of the brown type in two occasions.. and we cannot how many times the other type of accidents did occur).

2. Some guests were drinking and eating by the pool and left their cans, food wrappers etc on the floor .. and obviously these would be blown around the area by the wind.

3. What was annoying were large groups of people "reserving" their sunbeds for long periods, by leaving their towels on them. Since we have a young child we were unable to actually sunbathe for long periods and were instead taking turns to sit outside for an hour. This sunbed group-reservation attitude of the majority of the guests was quite intimidating as either of us felt uneasy when trying to find a seat by these large groups or free up one when these were left vacant for long periods (we were trying to avoid confrontation). We were seldom able to get a seat when it suited us.

RESTAURANT
1. We ate at the restaurant and snack bar several times. The food is good but nothing spectacular however it was clean and reasonable value.
Soft drinks, water and juices are expensive.

2. The restaurant offers a themed buffet dinner every day. We tried it twice and we did not enjoy it since the buffet area is poorly organized with humongous queues . Also thanks to a number of very pushy and rude guests we were unable to return to the buffet for the main course and desserts once we finished our salads/entrees.

KIDS CLUB
We did not avail of the kids club as it is for 4+ only and also because it was set up for Scandinavians only.

LOCATION
The hotel is situated on top of a steep hill, it is a 5/10 minutes walk to the beach and restaurants. It can be problematic for people with mobility problems.

INTERNET
We had to buy their wi-fi package as we needed to stay in touch with work occasionally. Even after buying the wi-fi the reception in our apartment was dreadful and we were forced to sit outside on the walls by the pool to type up a few emails.

GENERAL COMMENTS
The only comments we have are mainly about the rudeness of the clientele we encountered while at Cinco Plaza. We found the fellow guests (mainly Scandinavians who travelled in large groups apparently) very rude, pushy and quite frankly intimidating.
That said, the apartment worked well for us as we spent most mornings down at the beach and only spent minimal time in the pool area. Most times we ate our main meal in one of the sea-front restaurants down the hill.
