“Its good, but.....!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2007

Stayed here with wife and family (3 children) at peak season (28th July to 11th August). We had booked 2 twin rooms. The twin rooms are quite small, and with the inclusion of a camp bed in one of the bedrooms there wasn't room to move. I blame our travel agent for this as we should have been directed to a family room and a twin. Anyway, we asked at reception and we were promptly transferred to a family room and twin the next day (payment of supplement €165). Enjoyed the holiday overall, but there are 2 significant gripes. Firstly this is a big hotel (caters for up to 1500 guests at peak times) and as a result the space around the 2 pools is really limited. So you have to join the dawn patrol to get sunbeds and umbrella. I got up at 7.15 am on a few mornings just to secure an umbrella and even then you're several rows back from the pool. There isn't a hope of getting sunbeds and umbrella next to the pool. I just don't know what time some people get up at - this is a holiday for gods sake! There is no real supervision of the pool area and some of the sunbeds on which the 'dawn patrol' have deposited their towels are left unused for most of the day. Overall the pool area is very crowded and expect to be right up against the person in the neighbouring lounger.

Second gripe is the bar and restaurant tabs. We went half board and the pool bar and restaurant staff don't want to accept cash for poolside drinks/ice-creams etc. We had a bottle of wine most evenings with dinner ( and a round of cokes for children) and at most 2 beers during the day, and this, with a few ice-creams ran up a bill of €650. You are given an itemised bill when checking out, but this only states the amount of each bar tab that you have signed. When you sign the bar tab it doesn't state the cost of the items, so you have no way of really disputing your bill at the end. To be honest there's no reason why pool bar staff couldn't accept cash.

I agree with other posts about food. This was of a good standard with excellent salads and good grill/barbecue section for dinner. Staff are pleasant and helpful, (but not exceptional) but at more than €6500 for 2 weeks this is nothing less than I expect. So, its good, but .... anything less from a 4 star hotel would be unacceptable.

Just returned from the best holiday EXPERIENCE we have ever had, booked through Panorama, stayed for 1 week (wished it was 2 weeks).

This hotel has everything you will ever need,
shops, gym, doctor on site, hairdresser, shooting, archery, chess, library, piano bar, internet cafe, car rental etc.
On arriving at the los jameos we were greeted by the friendly, polite reception staff, quick check in and we were informed of everything we needed to know, we even got the mini fridge key (free), then our luggage taken to our room by the porter.

We arrived at our room and it was perfect for the 2 of us, along with the 2 bottles of wine sitting on the table and very clean as was the hotel in general.

Staff who are friendly, polite, and always spoke, from the gardeners to the director of the hotel, nothing was to much trouble.

Food excellent & varied, different theme every night.

Entertainment at night, different shows each night, kids disco.

I can go on about this Excellent hotel but i won't, email me if you want any more information.

We have already looked at booking at the hotel again.

Everything that has been written about this hotel is true, in that it is very clean, the food is very good and it is a lovely hotel. However I feel we had a somewhat different experience to many of these reviewers because 1.) we were on honeymoon and 2.) we went at one of their busiest times- the hotel was full on our stay.

This hotel was recommended to us by a travel agent as one of their 'select' holiday locations and said it would be perfect for a honeymoon. It wasn't. Besides the family with (it seemed) 50 children staying next door to us, there were children everywhere and it seemed the hotel was geared towards families or older coulples - definitely not young singles or honeymoon couples. We weren't made to feel like this was a special holiday in any way and in fact we had to make a complaint because the manager was rude to us! (really not the honeymoon I had counted on)

This all came about because of their very strick dress code which we had no idea about before we travelled. (no mention in brochure - thanks Thomas cook!) Men must wear shoes and long trousers for dinner. Even though it's 40 degrees and there are people bathing topless just meteres away while you eat. My husband had to go out and buy some trousers and shirts; but then on a later occassion was spoken to in a very rude manner by the manager herself for not wearing the correct shoes and for eating one of his chips while he waited in line for food. May sound like nothing but he was mortified as she made a spectacle of him in front of other people. She even pointed to an older gentleman and said "that's how you should dress" . Fawlty Towers anyone?

Anyway, the other gripe was that if you wanted a pool lounger you had to be there at 730am! We spent most of our time on the beach (playa chica and old town were lovely). Otherwise, the food is great and it is a nice hotel but not sure if it's worthy of the four stars. I would rarely be spurred on to complain about a place but this time we did and the management tried to ignore it and didn't deal with it. So even more minus points for that!

I don't know if anybody can describe in words this hotel. It's pure Heaven like the entire island. Plese don't hesitate to book a room here! My wife and I spent 10 nights in Los Jameos (room 4105) and we almost started to cry when it comes the time to leave.

We have recently spent 5 days, H.B. at this lovely 4 star hotel, to celebrate our wedding anniversary on 11 July. When we arrived, the Reception staff were friendly and efficient. We were given the room we had requested on our booking form, (one with a garden and pool view.) So that was a good start.

The hotel´s location is good, close to Puerto del Carmen, but in a quieter area with a few shops, local bars and restaurants nearby. The
wide sandy beaches of Los Pocillos and Matagorda are excellent. The hotel is located directly on the beach at Los Pocillos. Taxis are available into Puerto del Carmen for under 5 euros, should you want a
more lively evening, or a change of scenery.

The hotel consists of several blocks of rooms grouped around a typical Canarian garden with 2 swimming pools, (one heated and one larger freshwater pool.) There are 2 pool bars. Children have their own small pool, play area and a ´mini club´. The hotel offers a range
of daily sports and leisure activities for adults too.

The bedrooms are spacious, well decorated with a modern bathroom and have either a terrace, or a balcony. In our room we had Satalite TV, plus a safe and mini bar. The bedroom was cleaned daily, towels and bed linen changed as necessary.

For us though, the best of all was eating in the hotel´s excellent terraced restaurant. The daily menus were varid, food and wine was of an excellent quality, and presentation second to none!. There were
varied buffets with barbecues and selected specialities from the grill, offering something different every night. With the friendly attentive manager and his staff catering for all your needs, you could not fail to be impressed. You are made to feel, that little bit ´special.´The expression ´spolied for choice, certainly applies in this restaurant. It would certainly do credit to any 5 star hotel on the island.

After dinner you can visit the hotel nightclub, El Belingo bar where there is a live show, most evenings. You can dance to live music, a disco, or just enjoy a drink with friends. For a more relaxing quieter evening, the Piano Bar offers music on 6 nights a week. You can always just have a drink there and just ´chill out´.

It is difficult to find any major faults with this hotel but -

As it is a large hotel, with over 500 bedrooms, the facilities on the swimming pool areas, become a little stretched in July and August, when the hotel is full. There are plenty of sunbeds and complimentary pool towels, but they need to supply more sun umbrellas! The ones there are static so cannot be moved. There are not always enough to go around at this time of year, when they are needed the most. There doesn´t seem to be a specific member of staff
designated to walk around the pool areas to enforce the ´list of rules/regulations´ etc. - ´ No diving in the pool´ - ´No jumping in the pool´ - ´No ball games´. So, of course it all happens!

July and August are definitely the months for family holidays, as most places are. More mature guests, or couples without children, would appreciate a visit there in May, June, late September, October or November.

We both enjoyed our 5 days stay at the hotel, we were looked after really well. This was our fouth visit and we will definitely be going
back again.

Myself, husband and 7year old son stayed at the Los Jameos for 1 week in early July on all inclusive basis. Booked via internet (Security Travel) and got a really good deal, we had researched the hotel using Tripadvisor reviews and they are very accurate - this is an excellent all round hotel.

The hotel is located approx 5 minutes drive from the airport (10 euros in taxi) whilst you can see the planes approaching/landing during the day you do not get any aircraft noise - well worth a wander down the beach to watch the planes our son loved watching them landing and taking off.

The rooms and all areas of the hotel are spotless and immaculately maintained. The bedrooms are small but again exceptionally clean (cleaned daily) with a good sized bathroom, towels replaced daily and bedlinen twice a week. We had a large balcony overlooking the beach.

The pool area is lovely, lots of sunbeds, with comfortable matresses and pool towels are free (token system operates) - one pool is heated and the other two are freezing but refreshing ! - pools are in keeping with the rest of the hotel and immaculately clean - no rubbish lying around as lots of bins for rubbish around the pool which the guests use ! - there is the "towels at dawn" system in operation for the beds and umbrellas near to the pools (starts at about 6.30am ! ) but there beds available at most times durring the day and the hotel was fully booked.

There is an entertainment programme throughout the day, kids club (11-1 and 3-5) mini golf for children, adults water aerobics, tennis, squash, tennis, and shooting - in the evening there was always a music band or small show which finished at about 10.30pm - enjoyable but nothing overly exciting. All activities were free under the all inclusive system although you do have to sign for using some of the activities i.e mini golf ( I think this is how the hotel monitor who uses what)

The hotel is located opposite a wide sandy beach (sand is dark almost black in places - so don't expect golden sands) - the sea is cold and shelves away quite quickly but it was great for "boogie boarding" and swimming. The are a few shops and bars along the beach front all selling the normal holiday "bits and bobs" - we hired pedal bikes and rode along the sea front from one end of the resort to the other which was easy biking as totally flat but a nice way to spend an hour at the end of each day.Bikes 5 euros for the day each.

The reports about the hotel food are totally accurate - you want for nothing and everything is beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. There a vast choice at each meal time whether you are a meat eater, vegetarian or salad lover you will not be disappointed - under all inclusive you had three meals aday (far too much really) and all drinks were included including bottles of wine at meal times - definately rate the food as 10 out of 10

Overall we could not fault anything, the hotel provided everything we needed, we had no complaints and we would definately go back for a relaxing (over indulging !) week. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel.

We stayed here for the last 10 days in May and enjoyed the best choice, quality, presentation and cleanliness of food we have had in any holiday hotel before (and we’ve stayed in plenty).
Maybe it’s because it' s German owned and run. Staff welcoming and friendly throughout.
The choice of food at each meal time is unbelievable for meat eaters and vegetarians alike.
The hotel is situated right by a pleasant beach, with several more within walking distance but overall there is very little else around.
Puerto del Carmen is a little tacky but has a nice beach and several good looking restaurants (although we didn’t try them as we had booked all inclusive, well worth the extra money).
Most of our time was spent in the well kept hotel garden, grounds and by the pool (no need for towels at dawn as there were always plenty of beds near or around the pools. The heated pool was lovely for the first 3 or 4 days then we noticed a distinct drop in its temperature (did they turn the heat off?)
The hotel is constantly being cleaned throughout the day to a high standard.
Our bedroom (4031) was fine although the bedding and curtains are a little dated in looks but very clean. We had a lovely view of the gardens, pools and sea.
Don’t be put off by the "Mexican ranch" style looking entrance. It’s like entering a "tardis"
What little we saw of Lanzarote was disappointing. The weather can be very changeable and a little too breezy but it didn’t spoil our holiday. We all came back with good tans. The island is too barren and black for us so we won’t be going back but will certainly look for other hotels run by "the seaside hotel group"
