“basic but pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

We stayed for 10 days from 10th to 20th September for the first time, as friends of ours had already booked for lanzarote earlier in the year we decided to join them the week before we travelled. Booked the jable as we needed to be close to friends and also we had read the reviews first and were quite impressed. As in all the other reviews on this site the staff from the reception to the couple at the pool and the cleaners were very nice and helpful nothing was too much trouble. The apts were basic which we knew about but they were very clean. Granted air con would have been a big plus as there was a heatwave while we were there and it was difficult to sleep at night, although we did have the windows open all night as there are bars on the frames for security so felt safe enough leaving them open. We were on the bottom floor and only had the road for a view but we didn't spend that much time in the apt so it wasn't a problem. These are in a great location with the little bodegon bar owned by Fernando who will serenade you till the early hours (great place for meeting people) also El Quijote is a great place to eat (this backed onto our bedroom but didn't disturb us at all as it shuts around 11.30pm) Juan the head waiter has been there for 45yrs and is very nice to talk to and very funny, the food is superb too. The pool area is great but needs more brollies as there is no other shade. The brekkie at the pool bar is very good value for money and the couple that run it are wonderful. There is also a spar at the end of the road and two bars The Snug and Rendezvous which are a quiet change if you just want a nice drink and chat. The Golden chop sticks restaurant is fantastic. You are literally 5 mins from the shops, bars, restaurants and beach, even the hill didn't bother us after a couple of days that leads to the front, but it you walk down the spar shop hill and not kontiki hill its not as bad. These apts are central for everything that caters for everyone and would recommend anyone to try them. Great value for money on all counts.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the 2nd floor as I believe you get a sea view

Just had a week here and although basic we had a great time. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, especially the couple who run the pool bar..they couldn't do enough for us. The floors in the bathrooms are in need of a deep steam clean and the patio furniture also needed a clean. The apartments are very central to the strip and the beach, less than 5 minutes walk but away from the noise and bustle at night. They have new appliances, toaster microwave, kettle, coffe maker as well as the usual fridge, 2 ring cooker. We experienced a heat wave that the locals said was not usual! Apartments had no air conditioning but we got a fan from reception. The beds and the pillows were comfortable though the heat affected our sleep. It is also close to 2 spar shops about 2 minutes away and the

Room Tip: We had a first floor apartment which meant we could leave our windows open at night.

It is difficult to rate this establishment. There are some features that deserve five stars, yet there are other features that deserve only one. It is the only place we have stayed so far where the good was very good but there was also bad that was pretty bad.

We can only comment on the reception and the apartments because we didn't use the pool/bar area (although it looked nice)... and having had the opportunity to stay in two apartments during the same trip, we can offer some comparitive advice.

The reception and the staff were wonderful. Very welcoming and very efficient. They went to great lengths to make us welcome and also to try to provide us with whatever we needed......... Want advice on Lanzarote? Lots of accurate and useful advice. Need help with any problems? Help forthcoming and absolute. Want an iron? got an iron - free of charge. Want to change apartments? No probs... immediately got keys to another one. etc. etc.

First we stayed in 79.... first impressions: lovely! It was pretty clean, and also seemed recently rennovated, so not sure if cleanliness was as a result of dutiful attention or recent rennovation. TV and fridge were pretty old school (small and old) and in 79 the fridge badly needed defrosting and didn't seem to be cold enough (maybe due to the need for defrosting).
Everything else seemed fine.

Problems arose at bedtime... two major issues.. unable to combat the heat and unable to keep out the noise. The heat problem manifested itself in two areas.... lack of air con and the matresses were foam rubber (I think) rather than breathable fibre - so they were heat traps.

(We became aware two days before our departure that fans can be rented from reception at fifteen euros per week - no daily rental, but as we only had a couple of nights left, we considered it too expensive and too late).

Basically no sleep due to heat, or rather lack of facilities to combat the heat. Bedroom had a window but it opened out onto the road. This is the next major problem; noise.

The accoustics and layout of some of the aprtments and the road in terms of levels and position of bedroom etc. meant that whenever a car or bus or lorry went past on the road outside, the whole apartment amplified the noise. Everytime something went past it sounded like jets flying past. With cars and buses going past ALL NIGHT and EVERY FEW MINUTES, it was not nice at all. And taxis and buses stopping outside and leaving their engines running etc. Other noise problem was that the people coming back from partying all night every few minutes walking by outside the window, even if they tried to be quiet (and not many of them did), it sounded as if they were literally walking and talking (and shouting) right in the room with us. We figured it might have been because it was a Saturday night.... not; Sunday was just as bad.

Anyway, reception were most sympathetic and immediately gave us the option to move to another apartment - 65. Now, although 65 was also on the noisy road, being on the other side of the road, the bedroom was situated at the end of the aprtment that is away from the road, but also back onto other establishment's apartments. It was some releif, as the traffic noise was still loud, but was kind of background noise rather than in the room with us and we also didn't hear the footsteps/talking etc. of people returning at night on the road. But we did hear the racket of parties etc. going on further back and the occasional returning drunkards coming back to their apartments above us.

Alas, if we had air-con then we could have closed the windows and shut out some of the noise, but with searing temperatures in the room, all day and all night, and with only the very slightest of a breeze every now and then, we HAD TO HAVE THE WINDOWS OPEN, regardless of the fact that by doing so we got no sleep due to noise..... and even with the windows open it was still way to hot to sleep - not helped by the type of mattresses.
Anyway... for the last couple of days we hired a car with air con, and got a bit of kip in the car!!!

A noticeable difference between 79 and 65 was the cleanliness. Whilst 79 was quite clean (we think on account of it having been recently rennovated), 65 was pretty dirty. The floor felt "greasy" and the bottoms of our feet became filthy when walking around in the apartment. Bathroom was dated, not as clean as it could be, and bit smelly too. Matresses had sweat stains. Interestingly, the fridge in 65 was more efficient and better than the one in 79.

Basically, if asked: "would you go back and stay there again?"; the answer would be "yes, but only in the winter or only if they installed air-con".

We appreciate that the heat and noise are both beyond the control of the staff at Jable, but we feel that more could be done to help combat these issues.

We were told that if going to stay there again, we could phone in advance and ask for an apartment in a particular block.

Some other good points: it's close to everything, Spar shop right on the doorstep, wifi internet was good and only two euros per day..... also the brilliant Restuarant El Quijote only a few steps away.

Room Tip: Get an apatment that is away from the road and not near any entrance gates.

In terms of level of service, cleanliness and location this couldn't have been better. The pool area was great and very secluded although they could do with more parasols (or not allowing people to 'reserve' them and then not turn up for most of the day!), and the pool bar and restaurant was simply outstanding - really good quality food, nothing outlandish or trying to be too flashy, just fresh ingredients well cooked by people who clearly care about their customers. The only thing I would have changed would have been the location of our actual apartment within the complex, it overlooked the road at street level, which while the road wasn't too busy, it wasn't exactly the outlook that made you want to sit outside to eat/drink. Also the 'Bodega' opposite gets loud and repetitive until quite late at night, so unless you love the prospect of nightly performances by Lanzarote's answer to George Formby, I'd request apartments 73-136 and not the lower numbers. Although Puerto Del Carmen itself wasn't my cup of tea, if that's where you fancy going this would be a great basic place to situate yourself.

Room Tip: Select apartments 73-136, or if you have to face the street, request a first floor apartment and not...

Wife and I just returned 11/09/12 after 1 week stay at Jable. Being advertised as 2 star we were apprehensive , but booked after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. Apartments were roomy, comfortable and clean, a bit basic but everything supplied for self catering (kettle, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, cooker, fridge and all cutlery etc..) booked 1st floor with bacony which was nice to sit out on in the evenings with a sea view.
Location of Jable is excellent, just 1 row back from main strip and very central. Spar supermarket at corner and would highly recommend GOLDEN CHOPSTICK chinese restaurant just below Spar. This was our 1st trip to Lanzarote and really enjoyed it and will probably go back. If hiring a car shop about as you can save a good few quid. The sunday market at TEQUISE is ok but things can be cheaper in shops at Puerto Del Carmen.
Overall an enjoyable stay in a good location at good apartments, no complaints. Would recommend Jable if your working on a budget.

Stayed here between Monday 20th and Saturday 25th August.

Had read all the reviews before going and was not disappointed. The apartment was spacious, well equipped and clean. The area was quiet, very little through traffic. Pool area was excellent, no problem getting sun beds. Pool bar was excellent, new management seem to be doing a great job and food and drink excellent value. Reception staff were helpful on the couple of occasions we needed them.

Town and beach within easy walk, although up hill on the way back so not so good if you have trouble walking.

Overall very impressed and would certainly return and recommend to others
