“better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

just returned from 5 night trip to sol, check in excellent, apartment spacious, cleaned daily, every where really clean, pools lovely, plenty sunbeds, accross from beach, 8 euro for 2 beds and brolley so not bad, didnt use as too breezy, most people there on all inclusive i think.
1 niggle was that back gate was broken all of our 5 days, could go out but card wouldn work on return when trying to get back into complex, ok by day but not at night, did report it but alas,
No FREE WIFI ANYWHERE, not even in reception, 2 euro for 15 mins on computers in business corner,
would recomend this hotel, now part of melia group but no real benefits i felt, thought i would get free wif,
still give it 4 stars, loads of facilities,

We paid for sea view room but on arrival they said these were fully booked! My main 'holiday must' was to have a sea view. After a stressful conversation they managed to reshuffle and we had a sea view although it was a bit of visible sea to the left of balcony.. Hey ho... Not what I dreamed of but better then ground floor which is what we nearly got for the duration!

The room was clean but very basic, no kettle or tea/coffee, or soap by sink, no tissue box or ironing facilities in room or in the hotel! They do have laundry service which you pay extra for, I'm glad we found our travel iron last minute. I asked for a microwave in room to heat up my daughters milk & food but they said as we were not self catering it was not possible.. Later we found others at hotel who had booked B&B had all facilities and others who were all inc (like us) had pots and pans, cookers etc.. Bazaar set up. Some one who was full board said they has pots etc but no fridge? If your lucky, you got given a room with all mod cons, seems like they put you were ever there is space, not based of what board you have booked.

Staff were very polite and couldn't do enough for us, they loved our 2 year old daughter and frequently gave her lolly pops and loved conversations with us.

Ok so the food.. Read awful reviews but we thought we are not particularly picky and thought others were just moaning for the sake it- after experiencing the food, we preferred to eat out. Food on the island is awesome. We ate out all the time, even if its the same sort of food at the hotel, it just seemed to taste better. One night the hotel had vegetable lasagna, very excited, until I found gristle in what I thought was quorn mince. I spoke to the chef and he said its meat? I asked why its labeled up has vegi lasagna and he just looked at me and said it's just a label. Wasn't impressed at all. I'm pregnant and always had trouble with the chefs under cooking the yolk. The basic omelettes we so under cooked, the whites were running all over the plate. This happened more then once and others said the same so I gave up. The sausages labeled 'British' sausages but they looked like round mushroom tops with thick skin and pale white.. Hummm...

Over all we will go back to Lanzarote and if you are planning to go to this hotel, I'd advise to go self catering or B&B

my husband and i stayed here from 12th -17th march 2013. we had booked a self catering apartment and were not sorry .... great choice of restaurants bars etc just a short 5 mins away and a walk into puerto del carmen is about 30 mins if you walk along the beach cutting off the corner , a slight bit longer if the tide is in and you need to use the walkway .... pools were ok but freezing especially the bigger one. if your not a swimmer like me , pool options limited unless u want to hang out with fred flintstone and the kids in the kiddies pool , adult one i could just touch the bottom and feel safe at the 1.5m depth ! pool side entertainment and night time entertainment very much aimed at both ends of the spectrum (very young and older holiday makers ) , not so good for us....we are both in our forties and found pool side bingo sessions and snake shows a bit naff , firmly have the flintstones theme tune embedded in the brain ! overall place appeared clean , poolside gets a hosing down in the morning and the gardeners are in attendance , pool side loos geta lot of usage and were clean , our room was ok but tiled floors were dusty and our socks picked up all sorts having been in the room just a few minutes! however maid did mop the floor on another morning we were there. ask for more pillows !kitchenette was ok , no kettle so we boiled water for coffee in the saucepan , defo nip down to the local supermarkets to get some coffee or bring your own , otherwise you won,t get a coffee on site in the snack bar until 1030 ! we survived on fruit and yogurt bought in the shops which was grand for brekkie. lunchtime snacks were ok if you don,t want to venture outside the hotel , we mostly ate off site however which offered much more choice i would imagine than the other boarding options. dining area which we were not allowed to enter looked like a canteen ! our room was located overlooking the car park , grand and quiet and the balcony was not in the sun so nice and cool , did,nt feel at all disadvantaged by not having a beach view ! very handy overall for beach, airport and bars etc plus nice walkway by the sea, apartment was cheap enough so cannot grumble however not 4 star in our mind. area outside hotel felt safe enough if you are a lone female .booking in at reception was a bit labourious and took ages , bit of a pain after a long 4 hr flight from dublin and arriving at the hottest time of the day in clothes more suited for the snow we left behind ! would stay again if we wanted just a few days away with not much travelling to do and no luxury expectations ....would defo not do anymore than the 5 nights we had however!

Room Tip: we were in room 1333!

Dear Mrs debbiethecat1,

Thank you very much for your comments. It is true that the hotel animation is focused sometimes on family trips so far however, let me take this oportunity to inform you we have a plan to refurbish the “A la Carte” restaurant beside us and will open a Chillout Bar-restaurant that will not be closed till 2 am during summer season.
I would recommend in case you come back to book one of our apartments with tea and coffee facilities as well as kitchen and microwave.
Hope to welcome you back at Sol Lanzarote.

Just returned from one week B/B at Sol Lanzarote and was very impressed. Had read reviews but was not unduly worried. Check in was excellent - very friendly and helpful lady. Room with sea view was excellent and very big. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was cleaned every day and left perfect! Only had breakfast which was excellent - absolutely everything was available, well as far as I could see. Loads of great restaurants nearby, about 2 minutes walk - would recommend Kinsale (wonderful Irish coffees also), Italica (very friendly), Little India(wonderful Pasanda!). You are spoilt for choice on food front - good deals on offer by most also. Would have no problems recommending Sol Lanzarote hotel - clean, friendly, adjacent to beach. Ps unsure about wifi but internet available for charge.

Room Tip: Ask for seaview.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We stayed at the Sol Lanzarote 4th to 11th March 2013. Booking in took longer than any where else that we have stayed due to one of the two receptionists going off duty leaving the other to manage not only booking in but also the telephones. On finaly bing checked in we were given a key card and told to go outside and follow the signs so up two steep ramps and a flight of stairs in the rain, without assistance and into a lift to the floor, along a long balcony area to the door , to put this into more perspective,we are a couple in our mid sixties. So dragging our bags with us we insert the key card which does not work. Manage to hail one of the maids to let us in , to find that we have been allocated a self catering unit. Not en suit bedroom that we had booked. This overlooking the childrens playgrounds that look a little worse for wear. We then look at the appartment to discover that it is well worse for wear, having received very little attention i would have thought for the last 25 years. The kitchen units were sagging in the middle, a small micro wave sat on a shelf at an alarming angle ,a botched repair with panel pins and mastic having been attempted. The linen looked to be well worn and in need of replacement with plastic undersheets on the beds. The sofa had cushions of differant shades with an old blanket as a throw. Both of us were distrought .My wife phoned the reception and requested to be moved to the type of room thatwe had booked to be told that it was not possible as the hotel was full. So off to reception to speak with the manager. She appeared and without too much fuss reallocated us with the type of room that we had booked. We then made our way back to the main hotel with our luggage .This room ,while being acceptable with regard to the one that we had left was far from the 4 star standards that we have become accustomed to on previous holidays to Spain, Greece, Portugal, Maderia , Egypt etc.In my opinion this hotel was ready to be refurbished many years ago but has had little money spent on it for a long long time and is now substandard for the money expected. As others have covered the dining etc i shall not comment further. but to advise not to book any outside trips with the reps without checking the prices with the outside firms on the strip. Eg 28 Euros for a trip to the market with Thomas Cook that you can have for 8 euros a couple return. When asked why ,answer, because youhave a rep on board, 300 to 400 Euros profit each coach trip. cant be bad. Nothing wrong with Lanzarote or Matagorda . I think it is time Thomas Cook took note and re assesed this hotel. Would we use this hotel again. No.Would we use Thomas Cook again. maybe not.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

We recently stayed for one week at the Sol Lanzarote, 3 – 10 March. I read the previous reports on this hotel but I always prefer to make my own opinions. This hotel is classed as a 4 star but as you will see from my comments that it is in reality a 3 star stuck in some sort of time warp.
Booking in took ages, there was 2 receptionists when it should have been 3-4.
The reception area is large with inadequate seating for meeting friends, and/or socialising.
The room we had had a shower that didn’t work properly, rust rings in the bath that someone had tried to paint over. It was very dated and needed upgrading.
Food in general was good but limited in selection, especially the salad bar and sweets. Beware of anything cooked by the chefs in front of you tends to be ‘lightly’ cooked. This means that meats tend to be raw in the middle especially pork kebabs and chicken. Fried eggs and omeletts are prone to being under cooked as well.
The restaurant is too small for the size of the hotel and we had to queue on a couple of occasions, this will get worse as the season gets busier. There is a ‘Flintstones’ area called Betty’s Kitchen
The area for the evening entertainment is also too small and get crowded with no seats.
Outside there are 3 pools, the bridge (with the bandstand) over the pools is cracked with the small tiles missing, in the middle pool there is a ‘tide’ mark around the tiles. The animation team try to work hard but when the music is limited to about 5 songs (no joking) which included Michael Jacksons ‘blame it on the boogie’ from 1972, Lady GAGA’s ‘Poker Face’ from 2009, and the theme from ‘the Flintstones’. The Flintstones theme is really dated the film was released in 1994!!!
The snack bar is worthy of a 2 star rating with poor selection of ‘snack foods’, with no afternoon tea and cakes (very British I know, but it’s in the brochure).
On a positive note in this dated hotel , the staff are friendly and helpful, the wines and beers are drinkable, the location is great next to the beach and the hotel is kept clean and tidy.
Puerto Carmen is only 1.30 euro each or walking takes 45-55 minutes on the flat promenade.
This is a honest opinion of this hotel , 4 star no, 3 star yes.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are quieter, get a room ar the back with a view of the carpark and n...

Dear Phil C,

Thank you very much for your feedback about your stay in our hotel.

I hope you enjoyed your holidays in Lanzarote. I am sorry to read that our restaurant's services did not met your expectations. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that we have a 14-day rotating menu to offer variety to our customers, and in the snack bar there are two types of services: a la carte with a wide range of snacks and mini buffet area (hot and cold) for clients in all inclusive board.

About our Flintstones Thematic and music, I inform you that this is one of the Sol Themed Hotels, although I would like to inform you there are other Sol Hotels without thematic.

It is a pleasure to check that our staff have been helpful and have offered the service expected. I assure you I will pass them your comments.

Once again thank you very much for all your information, which will be used as a helpful assistance to improve.

Looking forward to welcome you again in the soon future.

1st time to Lanzarote, arrived on 4th March a day late due to a very bad storm hitting the island and being diverted to Tenerife the night before, our mood was very black! However after being checked into the hotel by a very friendly Carlos,we checked into our room. The room was huge, bathroom, living area with a kitchenette, fridge etc, separate bedroom with a huge balcony, over looking the front of the hotel. Ok the view wasnt great, but we could see the mountains.
The hotel is spotless, pool area very pleasant, got the sun almost the whole day and at times it got very hot!

Breakfast was very good, choice of pancakes, hot food, scrambled eggs bacon sausage etc, cold meats, hot baked bread ( many types) cereals, fruit, yogurts etc.
Lunch menu wasn't so good, still a choice of hot food and cold salads etc, but for 2 days I didn't eat lunch due to lack of anything I liked.
Dinner again was a buffet hot or cold food, pork chops chicken fillets different fish etc, unfortunately on the 2 occasions I tried the chicken and pork, neither were cooked right through! So salad was my choice.
Most of the time, the hot food was warm at best, you have to dig to the bottom of the dish to get the hotter of the food.

On the whole we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and as it was my first time at an all inclusive and I didnt really rate the food, I would go back, but bed and breakfast.
The staff are all very friendly and very helpful.
The hotel has a 4star rating, not sure why!
