My husband and I arrived at the Sol Lanzarote on 5th November for a 5 night break. Check in very swift and staff friendly. We were allocated room 1223 which is on the 2nd floor. First impressions of room good however view of a car park not so desirable. As we were only here for 5 nights I couldnt be bothered with upgrading to room with a sea view as this costs extra. Wish I had though as this room gets no sun throughout the day at all. I noticed when we arrived that we had no kettle in our apartment which was self catering. On contacting reception we were allocated a kettle within an hour. Self catering facilities were basic but adequate, my only grip was that the kitchen area of the apartment is very dark and could do with some more lghting. Free safe within apartment which was good and the beds were very comfortable. As it was still very hot the air con was on in the evenings but was turned off in the early hours of the morning. As the outside road was noisey we couldnt open the doors so we hired a fan which cost 12 euros for 4 nights. Did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food. The hotel mainly caters for all inclusive so we did feel a bit out of the equation a bit. Drinks are very expensive in the hotel so we did not have alcohol. The pool area looks much bigger in the brochure pictures than it is. There are also so many sunbeds so close to each that you have no personal space at all. This did us off and we therefore didnt use the pool which was a bit disappointing for us as we love this part of the holiday. Most days i hired a sunbed on the beach which was lovely and relaxing. On the third day we decided to change some of our travellers cheques and walked to a local shop we had been too on a previous visit. We were told at the shop that nowhere changes travellers cheques anymore not even hotels. We had never heard of this and were concerned as to what we would do for money. We decided to go back to the Sol and ask if they can change them. We were advised by Paulo one of the supervisers that the hotel would not change them and we would have to find a bank. The next day we went to reception and asked for help in how to find a bank. Another receptionist asked us why and when we explained she said that the hotel could change them. So a lot of staff doing different things and giving different advice and I had no need to worry all night about finding a bank. The hotel is situated right on the fron of the beach and the location is great. The shopping centre along the promenade has bars and resturants. We found that one of our favourite bars - barties had been bought out and renamed as Sam Maguires - very quiet although David the barman very friendly and drinks were a good price. Rockola bar also very good has karaoke most nights. Good chinese also in the square. Be careful as my husband and I had upset tummies even though we were careful of what we ate. Last year we stayed at the beatriz playa and I must say that the facilites are better here than that of the Sol and I wished in the end that I had rebooked here but all in all a relaxing break. Matagorda is beautiful but also very quiet at night - I think it is a great place for pensioners but next time I we will look to go somewhere a little bit more livelier as just a bit of background music is nice when you have a drink

Room Tip: Avoid room 1223 - view of carpark and no sun!!

We just returned from a short stay at Sol Lanzaroteand had an incredible time!
The hotel is perfectly situated next to the beach. We had room with a great view over the beach and the swimming pools. The hotel has perfect service. The employees are very friendly and helpful. They gave us some great tips of things we should visit during our stay in Lanzarote.
The food is excellent, the pools very nice, comfortable and clean rooms.
I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends.

Room Tip: We stayed in a suite with beach view, amazing!

short taxi ride from airport, approx 9 euros. checkin at hotel quick , staff very nice. room 2403 was spacious, large bathroom, cooking facilities and couch in living area, bedroom large leading out to large veranda. view was of pool and beach...great...you saw the planes fly past on way to land..we played a game guessing which airline was going past as you could hear the plane just before you saw it. the room was in need of upgrading but not a big issue, hotel was nice and location was excellent. many people hire bikes or jog/power walk up and down prom outside hotel, exit back of hotel onto prom and turn left where one or two mins walk you will find shops (spar, hire shops, nik naks, inflatable rings etc, wee pubs eating places etc) we ate a few times in sirrocos next to the spar...great food. also the eaterie next to hotel...omnies or whatver its called. keep walking and you will find yourself at the end of the airport runway where people gather to take photos of the planes landing or taking off, what a weird experience. turn right when you come out the back of hotel and a few minutes on and you will find shops, restaurants etc, this path takes you right into puerto del carmen. if you go out front door of hotel go up hill and take a right and walk towards roundabout... as you look at road staight ahead of roundabout you will see a bus stop( left hand side of road), this takes you into puerto del carmen ( number 3 bus)every 10/15 mins, if you want to go to playa blanca get the number 61 this is once an hour...however i would check with reception on exact time its due as we got one on a sat and it was five past the hour and during the week it was twenty to the hour. we were self catering so cant comment on the food except to say a couple we met who were all inclusive said food was good , not a huge selection but very enjoyable. we didnt frequent the pools but there were beds to be got any time of day, i watched people putting towels out at 7am . bus fare to playa blanca one way for two of us was five euros thirty cents. fare into play del carmen was only a couple of euros for the two of us one way. we had a nice relaxing hoilday and would go back again, the beach is lovely . you wont be dissapointed.flew with thomas cook, on return journey we used the fast trak check in for twenty euros we didnt need to stand in mega queue, there was a queue for getting threw security but once that was by with it was fine. the beds were comfy as well .

Room Tip: 2401/2402/2403 pretty good views.

Well I have given SolMelia over 2 weeks to reply to my E mail sent to customer services about the state and condition of this hotel,I have had NO reply so here goes.I have been over the years to many Sol hotels in several countries but,None as bad as this one,We booked in May 2012 two rooms ,one an apartment and the other a suite,we asked for a view and a higher room,I rang them to confirm this twice, they deny both of these calls at the hotel,on arrival we were given the keys to both rooms, both on the lowest floor and the view was 4 Very Large Palm trees, you had to go back out of the room to see the sea,the rooms are of a good size and are well fitted, until you get to the bed!!! the so called bed was years old with all the beading on one side coming off and was Very Uncomfortable. In the morning I went to reception and complained.I was told there was NO record of my calls or asking for high rooms, they said they would look into the bed, they did!they put a thick Blanket over the top,What a joke, again I complained, the people on reception are all very nice and do try to help, but, when they go through to the office to see what can be done, it falls on deaf ears,I even offered to pay for a New mattress, even that was a Total waste of time ,The management at the office had NO intentions of doing anything .We managed to stay 3 Days at this hotel and after Not being offered any help other than moving us the next Monday,we decided enough was enough and went and looked for another hotel,we found a proper 4 star ,returned to the Sol Lanzarote, packed ,Paid and left. Its such a shame that people come sit or lay ,accept whatever they are given and say Nothing, the hotel could be made really nice as the situation is one of the best on Lanzarote,Please Sol update this hotel it needs it,the restaurant selections are very limited(you have better 3 stars),the rooms are not as clean as others we have been to are all need updating ,NOt Painting.I cant comment on the rest of the amenities as we werent there long enough.I dont know other folks but,we go on holiday to relax, enjoy a good nights sleep and enjoy good food,Sorry! this hotel doesnt tick any boxes.I didnt want to leave a bad report but, as said SolMelia havent my E Mail,Thanks for ruining our holiday. There are a lot better and cleaner hotels at reasonable rates on Lanzarote.
