“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

We have just returned from staying at the San Antonio over Christmas. The hotel was excellent, we paid extra for a front sea view and were not disappointed. Room 3512. They cater for all ages at this time of the year and for the small kids Santa Claus was there for them with presents. The people were met were great and were a big part of how well our holiday went. Anyone thinking about this hotel I would defiantly book it. We will return again sometime.

Room Tip: Front sea view room 3512

We had two weeks break all inclusive at the San Antonio in November 2013. I thought the hotel was great. The food was plentiful and very good. The staff were excellent. They were all really friendly and helpful
The very small criticism I would have is the Wi-Fi system. It is very unreliable and keeps dropping out. However that is not that important to most people.

Booked this hotel as we had stayed here several years ago and remembered the pleasant staff and good general atmosphere. Unfortunately, I don't think there has been any serious expenditure made in the years since we last visited - the hotel is very tired now, and in desperate need of a decent make over, which I am guessing won't be happening any time soon.

We booked a Junior Suite (got allocated Room 4402), but it seems that this hotel works in reverse to every other hotel I have ever stayed in - the more you pay for the room the worse it is. Room, although relatively spacious, was split in two, making it seem small, and had the smallest balcony (see picture, top left corner) imaginable, which was overlooked and faced the adjoining block, not a sea view as advertised.

We complained and as there was no other Junior Suite available we were down-graded (there is a first time for everything) to a family room, which was better (if not greatly) furnished, and did have a sea view.

Having not received much sympathy or help from the reception staff I asked to speak to the Manager, which I did the following morning. He was no more help, even going so far as stating 'I have told the company that some of the Junior Suites are not really good enough to sell as such'. Having got nowhere with the 'so called' Hotel Manager, we decided to stay in the Family Room and get the reduced rate, no compensation offered, over the room rate reduction.

Luckily we were only here for a week, and the second room was reasonably comfortable, if not exactly modern. It also wasn't the most well cleaned room I have ever stayed in.

Overall, not a 4* hotel and one to never return to again - the hotel and management just aren't 4* quality, however as it often the case, the more junior staff were excellent.

First, let's get the down side out of the way, beach/pool bar staff very miserable and the Jet 2 rep didn't turn up and didn't have the curtesy to inform us before hand!

Now that's out of the way, we had a great time, sea view, room was ok ( apart from being charged for tea & coffee!), we thought food was excellent.

We have just returned from another wonderful holiday at the San Antonio Lanzarote. We first stayed at this hotel in 1997 and have stayed there frequently since, always feeling we have been so well looked after. From the moment you arrive at the hotel, you are given a very warm welcome by Dagmar in reception and Martin the general manger also gives us a nice welcomes. The location is right next to the beach, with no roads or paths to cross make it ideal particularly if you have children with you. Because the hotel is so well like, there is a group of regular guest that travel from many countries at the same time of year and it makes the hotel feel like a second home surrounded by so many friends. The staff are genuinely please to see you when going into the restaurant or cocktail bar and go out of their way to make sure your enjoying yourself. The day time activities run by Giani continues to offer a vast range to suit all tastes, including rifle shooting, pistol shooting, archery, french bowls, crazy golf and many more and if your feeling energetic there is always the water aerobics. The range of food served in the restaurant continues to provide something for everyone, with a different theme each night, from Chinese to Indian and lots more all cooked to a first class standard. The night time entertainment in the cocktail bar is always a crowd pleaser, so much so that it attracts guest from other hotels that are not offering the same quality shows. The san Antonio might be one of the older hotels in Lanzarote and some might say needs modernising, but what is most important is that it is spotlessly clean, great choice of first class food and the staff are very friendly so what more could you want. That sad part about this hotel is leaving to come home, the good part is we will be back next year. I would like to of had the opportunity to buy Martin a drink to say thank you, but he always seemed to busy and I think he should delegate some of his duties to allow him some free time as I was disappointed he did not appear to get spare time to talk to us apart from a hurried conversation. But thank you to all the staff of San Antonio, for once again making our holiday PERFECT.

Room Tip: There are many rooms that have great views over the pool area and out over the beach, with the sun s...

Very Old, and in need of refurbishment - the establishment, its staff, and the guests!

The best way to describe this hotel is to say that it offers a cruise type holiday, which has been stuck in the 60's, at poor value.

The rooms are dirty, mouldy, and smell of damp. The towels are old, and ripped. The room fridge stank of stale food, and the safe had to be paid for extra. The pillows were dirty, and the WiFi did not work properly.

In fact, each room gets a password, and reception has to set it individually. We had horrendous problems getting this set up for two of us, and the reception was so intermittent and slow, that I just paid data roaming charges to my UK network.

You have to collect the pool towels from reception, and swap it on a 1 for 1 basis. This is a headache, as you may be on your way out, and don't necessarily want to collect another towel when passing reception. The idea of tokens doesn't seem to have occurred to these people.

The food: plentiful in quantity, and variety. However, the quality was 7/10. They need to cut down a bit, and just give better cuts of meat, fresh fruit juice (rather than the fake sugar filled stuff).

The 'icing on the cake' was watching a guest eating his food, with his hands, DIRECTLY FROM THE PAELLA DISH. He was standing there picking, and no one cared.

Please also note that 97% of the food is non Spanish, and has been designed to be 'safe' for the non adventurous. The Spanish food is of poor quality (except for the prawns).

Finally, what seems to have been omitted is the average age group of the guests. I am 45 years old and I was probably 30 years younger than every other guest. If you're looking for a trip. This has all sorts of effects; for example the evening meal stops being served at 9.30pm, as the elderly tend to eat early. This also gave the hotel an atmosphere of an old people's home - which could be a positive, or a negative, depending what you are looking for.

Overall, I do not recommend this place at all, as it is EXPENSIVE for what it is. You can do much better.

FINALLY, a message to Trip Advisor: Why is it that all hotels within a 3 km radius of this one seem to have the same 5* rating? There is nothing to differentiate them amongst each other. Could it be, god forbid, that the majority of the reviews are written by other hotel owners, and reciprocated likewise?

Dear guest,

Thank you for writing your opinion. We regret to know that your experience was not of your liking, and of course we take note of your comments. Regarding your comments about atmosphere, it is true that the Vik San Antonio hotel is not the typical resort with hard entertainment programme; our clients know it and they come mostly for relaxing.

Just to tell you that all our comments come from guests, some of them with critical opinions, and some of them very happy with their experience, and we think you must respect them, because your comments are out of place.

Kind Regards,
