“An excellent find - so very different to the overwhelming majority of restaurants in Puerto del Carmen”
Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen is a seemingly endless strip of restaurants interspersed with clothing shops. This resort seems to be mainly populated with British residents and British visitors and as such the restaurants overwhelmingly seem to appeal to some British tastes with many "all day English breakfasts" and many asiatic restaurants all of which border the road.
So it was a real and pleasant surprise to come across Restaurante Terraza Playa as it is so different to all the rest both in location and cuisine.
The location is idyllic. Unlike the other restaurants with views of the road, Restaurante Terraza Playa is actually on the beach itself reached by descending steps. It was a pleasure having lunch hearing the waves crashing only maybe 50 metres away. There are inside tables but most people prefer to eat outside on the terrace facing the sea.
The prices were very reasonable. We had fish soup €5 and avocado prawns €6.90 to start, followed by grilled king prawns served with salad €12.40 (very fresh) and fresh dorada (sea bream) served with canarian potatoes €15.
In particular, we were impressed that the salad was fresh and the carrots were freshly grated (unlike so many restaurants where the salad is from a supermarket bag).
The waitress was charming and she and another waiter provided very good service even though the restaurant was almost full.
The map on TripAdvisor doesn't show the location too accurately and premises on the Avenida do not appear to display numbers. The entrance to Restaurante Terraza Playa is not particularly prominent. There is a signboard on the pavement at the top of the descending steps.
