“Beautiful. Quiet. Secluded.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012

You can't go wrong staying at this resort! What I like best about it is its privacy, away from the hustle and bustle of your typical beach resort. It also seems to be the ONLY major resort on the island with a website and a booking system.

You can get to the Talima Beach Villas by ferry (you can take your own vehicle on board, helpful if you choose to drive around the island as well). The car ferry has three round trips a day from the Hilton (or Moevenpick) Pier to Sta. Rosa and back or the pumpboats that run more frequently. Travel time all depends on the ocean current, should be between 20 and 45 minutes max. From the Sta. Rosa Pier, just ask for directions. The drive should be around 10 to 15 minutes.

Rooms are of Western standard with a Philippine touch, all beautifully designed. You can hang around the room all day, swim in the pool (a jacuzzi is available as well), sunbathe, sit at the bar, eat at the restaurant (menu has a good range), scuba dive or during high tide snorkel in the sea for a fish sanctuary is located a few meters away from the beach.

This resort is absolutely a place for peace and quiet, it really was what I was looking for. I'd call it my little hidden paradise. Will return again soon!

VALUE 6/10 (For your P250 you'll get to use just the pool and the rather worn out cottages. I don't see a good value to that and they don't have WiFi.)
SERVICE 7/10 (The lady behind counter was warm enough in welcoming us and answers to our needs well. The food was even delivered in a short notice.)
CLEANLINESS 8/10 (The only advantage of the place so far is that it is maintained well. The pool's water is clear though you can really feel the chemicals use on it. I was impressed by the shower room I didn't expect it would be that big and clean though the water was a little slow.)
LOCATION 4/10 (Well... it is so isolated so getting there is grueling.)

The place will bore those travelers who are not into diving but will definitely cater the needs of those seeking for peace and solitude. It is now just a shadow of its former beautiful self. Some of the facilities is so evidently been slowly wasting away due to lack of maintenance. This is just one of those places I won't bother returning. It is still worth a visit!

We went to Olango island to visit the bird sanctuary. The villa we rented was great. Stylish design, clean, quiet. The staff was polite and very friendly. I recommend to go diving early morning because after around eleven lots of boats from nearby Mactan will be at the diving location. The sanctuary is awesome. For bird watching, go there during low tide (see the rare Chinese egret!). During high tide you can take good pictures (bring your polarizer!). You can order a tricycle to go there (P300 roundtrip). It's pretty far.

What a wonderful place to stay if you want a nice private resort, very clean and very friendly staff always willing to help. the food is of very high standard. there is no beach as such but great access into the sea and the reef is great for diving or snorkeling. the pool was in perfect condition very clean and refreshing it is very quiet no hassle from anyone. just go relax and enjoy.

I stayed at this resort for 3 nights, and found it to be very friendly, but basic. It is a miracle it was built however, and it does employ locals from the island so that is a good reason to support it. The website certainly makes it sound more plush than it really is and this is my main gripe.. why not tell the truth?

The Pluses;
Diving (see below), and snorkelling
Small and friendly
Nice views from the pool and the chairs and sunbeds
Beds really comfortable

The Minuses;
The hot water is a trickle in the shower but there is no cold to mix with it, so you will find it gets too hot.
The food is fresh but average, with only a choice of banana or mangoes for fresh fruit, even though the menu mentions pineapple and water melon.
Private terraces are not that private as most rooms are overlooked by the next door room, which may or may not be a good thing depending on what you want.
The seaviews from the rooms are very restricted by the bushes and trees, that goes for even the very front room.
The pool is pretty small (compared to the website photo).
My room wasn't cleaned or tidied when I was there, although the staff were clearly conscientious about cleaning emptied rooms.. perhaps I needed to ask?
NB The best 'room' is definitely the beach house, which has a TV, and a nice open airy feel to the living space, so definitely a good choice for a family to stay there.

This resort could be better with just a couple of adjustments. I think the food could be nicer... a fresh fruit platter surely isn't much to ask for in the tropics... a real coffee machine would make a huge difference to the breakfast experience.. I saw no sign of a beach barbecue (as mentioned on the website). You are best to stick to Philippino food, although I found it mostly unappetizing in presentation.

I wasn't expecting to have wifi available, but I was given a wifi dongle to use, but it only managed to connect once for 10 minutes at 2.30am..and I tried several times.. but I borrowed one from another guest and it connected super fast with no problems at midday. When I said I couldn't connect with their dongle, there was no concern shown by the management to correct it. Beats me why any resort near a phone signal can't provide fast internet access for customers these days.

I got the impression that this resort which was built around 10 years ago is stuck in a time warp from then, and no-one cares enough to refresh it, and bring it up to date, which includes the website.

Note that there really is NOTHING else to do on this island outside of the resort, unless you like to study birds at the nature reserve, or want to watch a cock fight. For tennis or golf (as mentioned on the website) you will be heading back to the mainland.The whole island is a slum, and I say that as a seasoned traveller, who was shocked by just how poor this place is. I did a full circuit of the island on a motorbike and am amazed that the resort ever got built. I was lucky enough to chat to Horst the owner for my first night there and he regaled me with the story of trying to build it.

DIVING;
The one great reason to go stay at this resort is to dive with Mukie, the local dive master, who speaks excellent English, and really cares about his customers and their enjoyment, but is a dive professional. He knows the reef in detail, and took me to photograph pygmy seahorses, and found several ghost pipe fishes (both around 1cm in size). He also took me to see sharks (need to dive to 45m), but none showed up. There are no turtles here according to Mukie (as the website says), but plenty of fish and lovely corals. Sadly, there are many plastic bags also floating around. I dived 5 times with Mukie, and you will usually be between 1 and 3 divers, you go out directly from the resort on a private banka, and it is all really easy and close.

Extra Info;
I would choose to rent this resort with a group of friends exclusively as it would make a great party place.. in fact there was a private lunch party one of the days I was there, and they brought in their own chefs, and it looked fantastic. There is a volleyball net, darts and table tennis table available in the resort.

Room Tip: If you are more than 2 then definitely book the beach house. No room has a great sea view.

Wonderful place for a family reunion. Really great local hospitality. We loved learning to scuba dive at the adjoining Polaris shop.

We had a one night stay last January 29, 2012 with my wife and 2 year old daughter on this resort without knowing what to expect. The resort is not really as superb compare to some Hotel beach resort lining the Mactan area. The villas are quite unique without cable TV but very classy. resort goal is for the client to rest and relax at its fullest..What made our stay here in this resort worth of the money is the superb Service we received from the staff..Food is good a lot of freebies, like unlimited Coffee, free of fruits in every meal even Iced Tea was given to us for free. Though prices of foods are quite expensive you will forget it once you experience the way they welcome the customers..Staff even made my daughter's stay very enjoyable..I promised my wife that its not the last time we will visit TALIMA Resort..
