“Fantastic!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We were at Cathedral Peak for a wedding. The food was amazing, the hotel was great. Although beware - the first weekend out of wedding season and there was so much construction! But it didn't disturb our sleep. The room had a weird window above the door that had no curtaining, and the corridor lights are on all night. I am a light sleeper so I battled with this.

Good staff, and the mid- morning and afternoon teas are the most marvelous touch.

Great place - can't wait to go back! Beautiful setting, just stunning.

We booked for two nights at Cathedral Peak Hotel as we wanted to walk up Cathedral Peak. While the rooms are not very modern they are spacious and have everything you will need. I was very impressed with the fantastic buffet that was laid on for breakfast and dinner - great selection and fantastic deserts.

The walk was fantastic with a view from the top of the world to die for but don't be deceived - it is a very tough 20km and I was stiff for three days afterwards. This is a highly recommended trip and I plan to come back to Cathedral Peak with my wife and kids when it is warmer and we can spend some time by the pool.

We were hoping to see some snow and we did!! Well only on the top part of the mountains, but still it was snow. We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. It was such a wonderful experience. I cant get enough of the beautiful mountains.

What makes this such a good deal is that they include breakfast and supper and even cake and tea during the day too.

Its perfectly situated to explore the surrounding regions as far down as the midlands.

Our room was comfortable and warm (it was a cold weekend). The bathroom was spacious and everything we needed was provided.

The little things like coming back from supper and finding your bed turned down with a little chocolate on the side makes it just so much more special.

We enjoyed our stay very much and will definitely return for a longer stay.

Room Tip: We had a standard room

This place has enough to keep you relaxed/busy for a couple of days/nights. We stayed 4 nights, managed two hikes, plenty of reading time, a spa treatment and a lot of eating!

Once you arrive there isn't much need to leave. The hikes are reasonably well signed and there is something for every fitness level.

Food is plentiful and quite good. Apart from the terrace bar menu everything was buffet style, some of the dishes were a little repetitive, but still very nice!

There are numerous other activities which we didn't partake in and something for everyone. Despite it being busy it only felt overly crowded at certain times (i.e. around lunch time tends to be a free for all - whereas other meal times are more organised).

Views from the honeymoon/executive suites in the morning are quite breathtaking. Spacious accommodation with heating, perfect for winter! Walk to mushroom rock recommend for the spectacular views. Buffett breakfast and dinner very good (always too much). Cosy pub with fire in evenings.

Room Tip: Honeymoon suite 401

We stayed in Cathedral Peak hotel in July 2013.
Location is stunning and for families and bird/ fish / hike lovers an excellent location. Remote as remote can be, with beautiful views. Reception was good, but can be a bit friendlier. Rooms were large and clean and we had rooms with a nice view.
The bar was old fashioned pleasant with an English touch. The only point of commenet we have is that we are of the opinion that the dining/ breakfast room is too large and not cosy enough. Also the buffet formula is not to our preference. Waiters can be a bit friendlier.
Worth the four stars, but on a decline!

My wife and I decided to spend our yearly anniversary breakaway weekend at Cathedral Peaks hotel. To say the least it was one of the best breakaway experiences ever. The Drakensberg mountains were breath-taking, especially from the very well appointed Honeymoon Suite. The free guided walks and cheap horseback excursions are well worth taking advantage off. The included breakfast and dinner (buffet) was awesome, with so much variety to choose from and enjoy, it really made all meals a momentous occasion. We were always treated like royalty, and all staff were friendly and very professional, something that is a shortcoming at most institutions nowadays. Overall it was a brilliant experience, and we will definitely return again and again.
