“LUNCH AT WITS END”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

My wife and I had a most enjoyable lunch, Bev had chicken and mushroom quiche and I had caesar chicken salad, both most tasty. Reasonably priced and service was good.Worth another visit.Cappuccino was also good.

If you plan to visit the Drakensberg Mountains, this should be your accommodation. We were there for 5 days in total with a group of 27 people. The location is spectacular and the accommodation is great. Lots of great facilities like the lapa, the pool, the lake, the braai areas, simple outstanding!

It's a newly opened restaurant / coffee shop so they're still finding their feet with furnishings a bit sparse and decor needing sprucing up, both of which the owner assured us will happen over time. The meals we have seen and tried after several visits are great value. The owner really puts in effort to please people. An example was we mentioned a liking for Moussaka and he right away offered to specially make some for the next day. Next day there it was advertised as their lunch special for the day. At R60 it was very good value by the way. We were inspired to try the recommended carrot which too was excellent. The cappuccino coffee we had many days was also good. We are certain The Cabbage Tree will become a favorite spot for many locals and visitors alike.

We stayed over at Wits End for 4 days in the week of new year 2013. We had the 6 sleeper chalet with single bathroom. The accomodation is a solid 3 star. All requirements for a pleasent stay are catered for. Even borrowed a potjie pot from the owner for preparation of an evening supper. It is really a pleasent resort, generously layed out, with each chalet having its own privacy. The donkies on site add a particular charm to the place. The location is also well situated in the central Drakensburg, I would guess one of the closer resorts to Monks Cowl, which offers fantastic hiking opportunities. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. In addition the daily rate does not cost an arm and leg, unlike other resorts in the area. I will definately return to Wits End when I plan to visit the central Drakensberg again.

We have just got back from Wits end - during a heat wave the ventilation and fans are totally inadequate, but I think we were just unlucky. Also in a six sleeper it is really frustrating to have exactly six of everything - take paper plates and plastic cups for drinks and eats during the day. The place is very near Monks Cowl which is lovely for berg walks. The new restaurant is very good, but only open for breakfast and lunch. One night we went for dinner at Dragons Peak over the road and it was dreadful. The swimming pools are big enough to accommodate screaming kids in one and more leisurely activities in another and the lake is very pretty. We didn't go canoeing or fishing as it was just too hot but it is good to have such activities on your doorstep.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

We celebrated my Mother in law's 85th birthday by meeting at Wits End and stayed in Chalet No 8 which sleeps 8 peoples. Very peaceful, very affordable and wheelchair friendly and despite the miserable weather, we had a wonderful time. The chalets are well spaced giving privacy especially good for us since we had a 2year old and 10 week old baby with us. Lovely pool but bad weather prevented us from canoeing on the dam. Spent time meandering to some of the eateries in the area and enjoying beautiful views of the Berg. We look forward to returning for a longer visit.
