“Cheap as chips but amazing value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2012

Stayed at the Campanile Vilvoorde for 2 nights thinking it would be just another typical French budget hotel chain classic. How wrong I was and pleasantly surprised at the same time. The hotel is a typical budget affair in that the room is basic with everything you need and not much more. My room, room 12, was however very clean and pleasantly equipped with a kettle and tea/coffe plus a very good shower over the bath.

The huge bonus of this hotel is the restaurant, doesn't look anything special but the friendly staff and fantastic food was a huge surprise for such a place.

I'm going back for a few days over the coming weeks and I hope my stay is as pleasant as this one.

My only comments would be that the rooms could do with some fresh paint and some of the rooms still have the smell of being a former smoking room and the wifi is unusable. Apart from that, it's miles better than Etap or Ibis hotels in the same price range.

Room Tip: Ask for one that wasnt a smoking room before.

I have stayed at this hotel several times. It offers reasonable value for money: the bed is excellent and the personnel is very friendly. But here the good news ends. I've complained several times about the poor wireless Internet connection, but apparently this hotel doesn't care. Breakfast used to be delicious in the past, but gradually things have changed: the fresh orange juice has gone and some of the yoghurts disappeared too, and the coffee is the worst I know in the region. The rooms are quite small, so there is no room for a comfortable chair. Taking a shower in the bath tub is dangerous because it's too slippery. The television set has been replaced recently, but whatever I tried the aspect ratio isn't okay.

Room Tip: The rooms that overlook the railway are noisier than the ones at the back.

This is an excellent hotel, not the swankiest in town but clean tidy and very friendly. We were made very welcome by the receptionist Johan who is a real star and should be on the comedy circuit! The rest of the staff were just so helpful it was unreal, ask a question or have a request and it was sorted straight away. The only problem was one of the reception staff Erwig who is to hospitality what Tony Blair was to world peace - rubbish. He was openly rude, abusive and always scruffily dressed. We complained to the manager Steve who instructed Erwig to apologise but he never bothered. So a good hotel and stay just let down by one stupid person. Oh and if you go on a Sunday evening you can have Johan prepare you a pizza and have you in stitches telling you rotten jokes!

The hotel is situated just five minutes walk from the local railway station and a short ride to Brussels Midi station. If you're interested in the surgery option it's just a five minute taxi ride or 15 minute walk from the Kliniek Beaucare. Vilvoorde city centre is just 10 minutes walk away and is good for local shopping.

great hotel, clean, good location and seconds from the train station into the centre of brussels.

I'm not sure if this is typical of brussels, we got here at 8pm, landing at brussels international airport and took a taxi to the hotel. which is about 5 miles away....we were in the car for roughly 7 minutes, so i was thinking, in england this would be about £9. we were charged 45 euro!! for a 5 minute journey. which is absurd. so to anyone thinking of taking this journey, take a train into brussels and a train to vilvoorde which is right next to the hotel.

anyway, after that debacle, we checked in fine. the guy at reception was friendly, and could speak a number of languages, which always impresses me as we brits usually expect everyone to be able to speak english. anyhow, he informed us that we were probably overcharged by the taxi guy.

we got our key anyway and went to the room, which was well presented and clean.and had everything you would need. for those worried about travelling from uk with liquids in hand luggage; shower gel is provided, as is soap.

we were at the hotel for surgery at the nearby clinc beaucare, which we walked to. it took about 15v minutes, so it was pretty easy, and i didnt want to get charged 300euros for the trip. we went into vilvoorde the previous night for a pizza which was lovely. one of the best i have tasted, and only 9 euros. there is a small lake just by station vilvoorde which we sat by and was quite a nice relaxing setting.

so in short, i would recommend this hotel for its convenience, depending on what you're visiting for. we booked in advance so got reasonable value for money. i dont know whether everything is expensive in beligum, i find it hard to tell, but i would recommend you stay away from taxis unless you dont mind remortgaging your house for small trip.

A 99eur 2-night Groupon deal brought us to this hotel which upon first sight did not look like a bargain. Luckily we had read the positive comments on this site, and the grey motel-looking hotel served its purpose perfectly.
The double room was adequate in size, very clean, bed firm but comfortable, the hottest shower ever, tea/coffee, ....and surpringly quiet given the railway nearby, with Vilvoorde station a short walk away, 3-4 trains per hour into central Brussels taking 15mins at under 4 euro return.
Breakfast is more than adequate, parking is free and ample for the hotel size and very close to the main entrance.
This hotel is not glam but functional and does this very well.
We would return for a future Brussels City trip without hesitation.

this is a great hotel - the location is a 5 minute walk from the train station (where there is a wonderful pastry shop) - the hotel is very clean, comfortable and the staff was extremely helpful - there is a restaurant and bar on the main floor and the food was very good - the breakfast was large and many choices - I was a female traveling solo and was very pleased with the welcoming staff (especially Johann) - I would unquestionably stay here again

I was in the Vilvoorde area for one night on business and this hotel did everything I need. It's not particularly exciting or fancy, but it was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and spoke excellent english, and it's very close the station with trains into Brussels centre every 15 minutes. Free WiFi in the room, a powerful shower, and a decent breakfast.
If i was in the area again, i'd be very happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: I was in a room that looked out onto the train station, and the double-glazing was good enough that...
