“An asset for Vilvoorde”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Vilvoorde is not the most attractive city in the world and its culinary landscape was a bit desertlike until recently. In the new development area of the city, along the canal (Brussels-Willebroek) a modern waterside brasserie was just the thing that was missing to make the area more attractive. Then came Canal. The restaurant is large and lofty. The large windows, the light tones in the interior (with a lot of white and light oak) make it a very nice place to be, especially in summer.
The menu offers a rather limited choice yet the special selection of beef cuts looks impressive. For a brasserie the prices are quite high.
The service was quick and professional. The food was OK but nothing special to be honest. I will go back to Canal since it stands out in the Vilvoorde area. But that says as much about the Vilvoorde area as about Canal.

“Disaster !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

What an experience! 10 minutes to get a menu - another 10 minutes to get a drink.. 1 hour and 20 minutes to get our main course ( we had to reorder our food 3 times!). Guests on the table next to us got up and left after waiting more than 15 minutes without anyone even acknowledging they were there. Our food arrived eventually, cold food and one dish completely unrecognisable from the description. In desperate need of some decent serving staff. There were two staff who seemed to be trying to keep everything together, one older guy was so slow he almost left a snail trail behind him! Another one dropped a tray of glasses. In fairness, my friend who had been a few times before said that on previous occasions it had been impeccible. Advice - don't go on a sunny day, they can"t cope. On a positive note, the interior is very nicely done - and the terrace will be great (once the portaloo and the remaining works are completed). We did have quite an entertaining evening watching the waiting staff go from one disaster to the next... :)

“Meal on the canal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

First time that we were there and we’ll come back.
This restaurant opened last year in a new part of Vilvoorde and is very welcome because the number of restaurant where you can eat descent food is small in this town.
The facilities around the restaurant, parking and boardwalk, are not ok but will be soon after the construction of the last building will be finished.
The fish was well cooked and the presentation on the plate was fine. The staff is very friendly and the bill is ok.

Scenic view over the canal. Great food, friendly waiting staff. Nice lounge and 2 or 3 conference rooms.
