“Heaven in Umbria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

What makes San Carlo a gem?
The warm welcome of Rosa and her mother in law is enchanting. You immediately feel at home.
A 500m long picturesque small road leads to the main house. The pictures on the website reflect reality. No photoshopping needed. All araound you have a wide view on the tuscan hills in the west and the umbrian hills in all other directions. Looking East from the front of the house you see Citta della Pieve on a rim.
Breakfast is un-italian: you leave satisfied, even as a northern european. And every day a freshly baked cake to fill the last little holes...

Very nice cuisine if you want to eat in.

We will return one day...

Room Tip: There is no fitness center, but once you marked one bullet, it's impossible to completely return...

This is a beautiful, peaceful, place to stay, and Rosa and her family are wonderful hosts. The house is in it's own grounds and 500m down a private lane, but 5 mins by car from Citta della Pieve for shops, banks, restaurants etc. Very convenient for south Tuscan towns like Montepulciano, and Umbria highlights like Assisi, Perugia, Orvieto. Rooms are spotless with en suite bathroom - all cleaned every day, and our room was quite cool at night, so sleeping was no problem. Breakfast is freshly made each day with homemade cakes etc, The town has many good places to eat but if required, an evening meal is available at the house by arrangement. We had a superb meal there cooked by Rosa's son Frederico. You never feel overcrowded, and relaxing by the pool you more or less have the place to yourselves. There are marvellous views up to the town and out over the valley. No hesitation to recommend this to anyone wanting to stay on the Tuscany/Umbria border.

Myself and my husband stayed here for 5 nights in September and it was simply amazing. It's location is superb for exploring both umbria and Tuscany regions, 1 hour from Siena, Perugia, montepulciano etc.

The rooms are spotless, cleaned every morning, breakfast amazing home cooked by the host rosa who is an amazing person.

The views of the Tuscan hills, the serenity of the whole farm stay is amazing. The little town 3 minutes away citta della pieve was my favorite village in Italy, I liked it better from Siena etc there was a festival on when we where there which had it extra special.

I did not want to leave that's how much I liked this place, we will definitely return one day

Hosts Rosa & Family were excellent. We spent 5 nights there with a view of the Tuscon hills. We used this as a base to view the hill top villages of Tuscony. We were minutes to quaint town of Citta della Pieve.
San Carlo B&B wad the greatest. Pool and lots of outdoor seating. Lots of free parking. Breakfast is in Rosa's kitchen.
This place was wonderful.

We had a great time at Città della Pieve, we stayed 8 nights in this family run B&B. We were welcomed by a very caring hostess. The rooms were cleaned every day. Bed linnen and towels were changed every 3 days. We enjoyed the tranquility , the marvellous view over the hills and the swimming pool. The breakfast is (to Italian standards) very sweet. We are likely to come back here!

Firstly please beware of the address on this site which is incorrect if plugged into your sat nav..this mistake added an extra 90 minutes of all terrain driving in the Tuscan hills which was very stressful. Head for the hospital at citte de la pieve and take up the signs for San Carlo..We called Rosa for directions but her english is limited and another guest had to give us directions. However all the stress of our journey soon disappeared when we eventually arrived..what a stunning location with breath taking views. There were a couple of other guests staying but mainly myself and my husband were alone by the pool every day in the most beautiful and tranquil setting you could wish for .Breakfast is included but it is traditional Italian with cakes and sweets so isn't for everybody. Rosa was a lovely host. She allowed us to keep food in the fridge so we could prepare lunch at the house, rather then drive into (the lovely but very quiet) town every day. The site is remote and you have to navigate some small dirt tracks to get to the shops and restaurants, but it is worth it and we would return in an instant.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the house for the best views.

It is so incredibly beautiful, you will want to stay longer. Just be careful on the dirt road down, as it's narrow, and if you're not too good with a manual transmission car, you could have some fun if another car wants to go the opposite directio as you...
But don't let that discourage you. It's worth the offroad ride.
