“Exceptional”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

First things first: know what you are signing up for. Then enjoy it. This resort was among the most beautiful and unique we've seen in the world. We stayed in one of the beach villas. It was elegant, natural and stunningly lodged in its natural setting. The beach was empty, felt like our own. Wake up early and watch the sunrise. Eat at an exceptional, ingredient-driven Thai restaurant. Enjoy being alone with the company you bring. Relax.

This is not your standard hotel. They won't have every convenience. It's not about over the top luxury. It's about being entirely in one of the greatest places in the world, and being entirely there.

Coming from traveling at other places, we were struck by the slow pace and relaxed approach to excellence that defines Koyao Bay Pavillions. So we slowed down, relaxed, and had four nights and five days of magic on an island that feels completely removed from the craziness around the Anadaman coast. Wonderful. The food is the best Thai food we ate outside of Bangkok. As a final note - it's tempting to never leave the resort, but do. The island of Ko Yao Noi is of yet unspoiled, natural and beautiful.

Koyao Bay Pavillions is one of the best place in Thailand if you want peace and want to relax. We rented the 3 beach villa . We were 5 adults and one baby - We got the swimmingpool by our self and the garden. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was the best at the Island. We stayed at the resort for 13 days and we were very sad to leave. The population is 80 prc. muslim and therefor there is no bars like we see in Koh Chang - at the time we were there we did not see many turist . Oliver is a fantastic manager - very helpful and superb!. We will come back.
It was the effort worth to travel to the Island form Airport it takes 45 min.

Room Tip: If you can choose the beach Villa - The best - near the beach and near the restaurant and the office...

Koyao Bay Pavillion's is perhaps the most wonderful resort I have ever stayed in. The staff was accommodating, enjoyable, and willing to assist with any need. The on-site restaurant offers a broad range of Thai food and other standard fare. It was the best. You literally do not need to leave the compound! The food was so good I found myself anticipating the next meal before I finished the current. The limited number of rooms adds to the charm and relaxation. Our suite had a private pool where we spent many quiet hours just being away from the busy world. Olivier and his staff are superb! Certainly traveling to an island in Thailand is a bit out of the way but I would highly recommend taking the time and energy to get away to this tropical paradise. Well worth the effort.

Room Tip: Certainly consider one of the suite accommodations

Just another of our favourite hideaways in Thailand, close to Pukhet, easy to get there. The perfect place to relax, chill out, do nothing or something. A Muslim island, therefore no hooker bars or other things we don't like to see - just pure peace.

Great staff, superfriendly, fantastic restaurant, superb villa (we came directly from a liveaboard, only the villa's bathroom was five times bigger than our cabin ;-) ), nice saltwater pool, almost private due to the fact that there are just three villas located around the pool.

We'll come back whenever we are in the Pukhet area!

P.S.: Fellow divers - don't expect to much in this area, visibility is said to be not so good, dive shop next door doesn't have a speed boat anymore and diving is quite expensive. If you want to dive, go further south (Koh Jum, Lanta, ...) or book a trip on a liveaboard (and skip the Similans).

Feeling terrible that I never actually wrote a review before now, but I am only just beginning to realise how important they can be and especially after reading a recent poor review of Koyao Bay I think it is even more important that I do write something. I do wonder however if you are on your wedding anniversary and you are complaining about the DVD selection if that says more about you as a couple than about the place you stay!

My husband and I got married at Koyao Bay Pavilions and rented out all 3 of the luxury bungalows and all the other properties they manage besides so we really did get a good look around at the whole place. Having travelled extensively round SE Asia, Thailand particularly, and spent a huge amount of our time staying in far less expensive options I can honestly say that Koyao Bay was worth every penny for the 5 nights we spent there. We originally booked for 4 nights, 2 nights before and 2 nights after our wedding, but we were so reluctant to leave that we stayed an extra night.

Our wedding day was absolutely amazing, i could not possibly have asked for more. Olivier, the manager was meticulous in his planning and every step of the way went out of his way to make our guests and I felt totally relaxed. He arranged everything, from the food, to the flowers and even finding and recommending other places to stay for guests who were on different budgets.

The food was the best I have ever tasted in Thailand and that is certainly something as SE Asia in general has the best food in my opinion. Olivier's family were wonderful and though he was more than happy to keep them away from our celebrations we wanted them to join us and be part of it all. I could not possibly have asked for a more memorable few days. As we had booked out all the bungalows, and bungalows does not really do them justice as they are spacious and beautifully designed, you can tell it is an architect who owns the place, we were allowed our other guests to join us during the day to spend time around the pool and eat at the restaurant. Everyone was utterly blown away by how hospitable everyone was.

The grounds are immaculate and it was refreshing to stay somewhere where the emphasis has been put on the quality offered rather than on how many bungalows you could actually fit on the land. No doubt you could fit at least 10 here, but to have just a few that are so beautifully presented with such space is wonderful. The outside covered bathroom, no doubt may get a frog in now and again... what do you expect? Its outside! No doubt whoever complains at that would complain about elephants running past you having a shower at outside bathrooms in the luxury camps in Africa!

The 2 hour massage with each room booked was a lovely touch, lying outside in the sala with the breeze from the beach just a few yards away. On an evening it was lovely to hear the waves and feel the breeze from outside rather than be stuffed away in an airtight room with aircon. You would never believe that it is so near to Phuket, it is so quiet and peaceful, not like the noise and sprawl you find there.

The fact is that all over Thailand there is budget and luxury accommodation, Thailand and SE Asia in general have places for every budget. Koyao costs a little more than some but by no means as much as others and our stay was worth every penny! The privacy and outstanding beauty was matched by the excellent management and staff. I would have no doubt about recommending this place to others who wish to celebrate a special moment in their lives or those who simply wish to relax and get away from it all, I would go back tomorrow and stay as long as I could... I wouldnt be going for the DVD collection of course, but then most probably aren't.

Beautiful place, very romantic and quiet and still close to restaurants and bars nearby. Though the cuisine of the hotel is so amazing that there's no need for searching anything better if speaking on international cuisine. Been to Koh Yao many times and stayed in different places, but still remember Koh Yao Bay pavillions, our personal oceanfront sala with sea breeze, the lovely pool among the coconut trees and the sense of an absolute harmony with the nature there. We'll certainly come back.

Room Tip: beachfront bungalows are the best

We stayed 6 nights at this hotel. It was pretty much what we expected it to be based on the previous reviews and the hotel's website. The location is close to perfect, the beach is a few steps from the beach pavillions with nice breezes brought in from the ocean to the villas. The sunrise is beautiful on the beach, but for the sunset you need to walk to the other side of the island. The sala connected to the villas is nice for morning coffee and relaxing. They also do massages in the sala, although we did not find this as good as the local massage (I think it was called Arat massage) just around 2 km from the hotel. Breakfast was good, as well as dinner in the La Sala restaurant. Rooms are clean and very spacy, the best thing was still the closeness to the nature. I think we spotted 3 different frogs in our bathroom :). Staff is helpful, but they really take it as a mission not to disturb their guests, so be prepared to go and ask if you need anything. For us this was suited well, it makes the holiday feel really private. After Koh Yao Noi we spent one night at Patong beach, what a shocker that was! I would not hesitate once in choosing the Yao islands over Phuket's mass tourism destinations!
