“Great for exploring the many sites around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013

Coming here after a week on safari was a blissful breather: we slept by the Quiet Pool for the first two days! Our room atop the Lamu rooms gave us glorious views and quiet surroundings.
The colony of golden weaver birds in the entrance was a bonus.
Do take the opportunity to have Jonathan Bayas guide you around the Ababuko-Sokoke Forest. He is brilliant and found us so many of the endemic species. Our particular favourites were the Sokoke Scops Owl and the Golden-rumped Elephant Shrew (How can you resist an animal with such a glorious name.
The trip around Mida Creek by canoe is also to be savoured.

Room Tip: For peace and quiet, go for a Lamu room as these are around the Quiet Pool.

This place is for and about kids. Adults can squeeze out a great time knowing their kids are having a blast and are safe. Its an "easy" fun trip. The staff are truly excellent. The facilities are due for a refresher, but it's still a nice facility. My family and I will return....

My family just returned from a vacation in Kenya which included five wonderful nights at Turtle Bay. It's the third time my husband I have stayed at the resort and each time has been fabulous. The first time, in 2008, we stumbled upon it accidentally when trying to find a place to stay in Watamu. The gorgeous beach, the sparkling pool, the fun activities, and most of all the lovely staff ensured that we'd be repeat guests. We returned in 2010 and had another wonderful experience.

This year we came with our 20-month-old daughter -- I was so excited to bring her to Turtle Bay and our trip exceeded my expectations. Within a few hours, the staff, and many of the guests, knew our daughter's name. When we were given our "returnee" t-shirts, she was given one as well! We can't say enough good things about the staff -- many of whom we recognized. As it turns out a lot of the staff has been with the hotel for years and years -- some for twenty or thirty years. The lack of turnover alone gives us confidence in the resort and makes us happy to continue returning. Everyone is so nice and works very hard. Our room was immaculate each day -- we've always managed to secure an ocean front room and the views are wonderful.

One big concern we had on this trip, because of our daughter, was malaria -- it was unfounded. We didn't see one mosquito on our entire trip. The ocean breezes, the bed net, the air/con, and the fan all contributed to this -- but as an additional measure the hotel sprayed our room each evening while we were at dinner.

Breakfast has always been our favorite meal at Turtle Bay -- but all the meals are lovely (though we'd love to see more swahili dishes!) We had one dinner at the a la carte restaurant and it was fabulous. The seafood was wonderful, the atmosphere was great, and the prices were incredibly reasonable -- especially when compared to nice restaurants in Nairobi.

The beach was very clean, with the exception of some seaweed that can't be avoided and didn't bother us at all. The water was warm and clear. The vendors on the beach were polite and friendly -- certainly not a nuisance. The pool was fantastic as always and the water aerobics and water polo were highlights of the day!

The guests were a great mix of Kenyan families, British retirees, backpackers, expats living in the region, and others lucky enough to have discovered the resort. While the hotel wasn't anywhere near full there were three other families with children just about our daughter's age.

All in all, we had a wonderful time and made wonderful memories. We didn't want to leave! And we can't wait for our next visit.

My wife and I stayed at the TBBC from 19th November for two weeks. This is our second holiday here and we have nothing but praise for the hotel and all it's staff. Our every need was catered for and nothing was too much trouble. As repeat guests we stayed in a Lamu room overlooking the adult pool and were very pleased with all aspects of our room. Our housekeeper, Maurice, kept our room immaculate and everything was replenished when required. We very much enjoyed the buffet-style meals in the main restaurant and also spent three evenings in the Pizzeria where the meals were delightful. As a special treat we had an amazing dinner in the Blue Turtle a la carte restaurant and also a lovely complementary lunch as repeat guests, with the manager Tony giving us excellent service. During the day the waiting staff kept us supplied with drinks at our sunbeds, which were located on the beautiful sandy beach.
Thanks again to Damien, Sabine and the rest of the staff for a fabulous holiday and we can't wait to return in 2014.

Well, it is difficult to expect from a 3-star hotel more. Rooms are hardly clean, towels overused and threads are here and there. Everything is very old. I believed a couple of years ago the hotel was very good, but now it is just aged.
Staff tries to be friendly. But waiters are well-mannered only with those who tip them a lot. If you do not do this they don't even take an empty plate away. This disappointed me.
Food is less than average and it was an issue. I think a lot what I eat and I was surprised that one day there was nothing for me for dinner... Everything is made on grill or in a deep fryer... Soup with shrimps - we had one tiny shrimp for two... Some days pork, lamb and that was it. A lot of sweets. No vegetables for breakfast. But there is Pizza Garden. I should admit that this place is good! Nice waiters and very good food!!! But to eat pizza or some other Italian food all the time is quite difficult no matter how good it is.
Beach was covered with seaweeds. They were everywhere on the beach and in the water. Watamu is famous for its endless beaches, but we saw endless seaweed. But I have to mention that it depends a lot on time of your visit, because locals told that seaweed goes away in december. As it is the Indian Ocean there is no way to avoid low tides and high tides. During low tide you can snorkel and see a brilliant reef not far from a hotel. Just near the hotel you can find a lot of sea life and moray eels! That is stunning!!!
Beach boys are only on the beach. There is a great plus that the hotel has its own territory for sunbathing and no beach boys are allowed there! That is fantastic! By the way they suggest VERY high prices!
Selling happens in the hotel during evening animation that made me a bit surprised. By the way if you take an ocean-view room (like we had) you should be ready to listen to loud music till midnight.
We have expected more from this all inclusive hotel. It is quite overrated and a bit overpriced. But it is just a 3-star hotel.. If you don't expect anything, probably you can enjoy.

My family and I have stayed at the Turtle Bay twice on holiday and we love it. The staff are friendly and serve willingly and with a smile. The pools are clean and well maintained and the pool towels are clean.

The food at Turtle Bay is very good and the chef does an amazing job.

Five stars for this place.

Room Tip: The Club rooms are the best for family as they are quieter, larger and have interconnecting doors.

We booked this holiday for the diving and access to a safari. We were not expecting much from the hotel as it is only 3 star. I am pleased to say I was so wrong. From the reception staff, through to the catering staff, nothing was too much trouble.

We were 2 hours late reaching the hotel due to a problem with the aircraft, and sat down in the Pizza restaurant by mistake after it had closed. Not a problem, they opened it up again for us without any fuss. Best pizza I have tasted in a long time.

The water sports centre was excellent with a wide range of sports available. My wife and I have just learnt to scuba dive. We were looked after with our own dive master for every dive we did - 24 in total. Again everything was at our pace, I learnt so much from them.

We took the Tsavo East and West safari which was over 3 days. A lot of driving to and from the reserves, but well worth the numb bum on the minibus. The animals were fantastic to see in their natural habitat.

I would recommend this holiday destination to anyone who wants a bit of sun, sea, scuba diving and safari.

Room Tip: We stayed in the club rooms. They were the furthest from the pool and entertainment centre so they w...
