We couldn't have hoped for a better first hotel experience in Watamu. The place has stunning views, excellent service, very good food, and Bruno and Giusi are wonderful hosts that go out of their way to cater to your every desire.

I cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Watamu! Bravi!

We were 2 friends travelling and after a 6 days' safari finished our trip in Kenya in Mawe, Watamu. Not that we already weren't aware of time..days of week..next day... this place takes you yet to another dimension of relaxation, bliss and amazement.

We've had different hotels in Kenya welcome us, however NONE is as spectacular, surprising and warm as this one. Food was superb, delicious. Rooms are spacious, bathroom luxurious, beds...some of the most comfortable in the world!

Great views, and do spare an hour or two to walk around the reefs at low tide.

Room Tip: There are only 12, and if you can, ask for a room overlooking the hotel yard.

Watching the infinity view of the ocean from the confort of a sunbed after a cool dip in their pool.. an amazing experienced. I enjoyed my stay as the staff made sure I did. They had every detail of my stay there covered. Its been a week ago but I miss the place, the cuisine, wow, everything was amazing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. We were taken on a beach stroll during the low tide up to the Love Island, an experience I will live to recall. Mawe Boutique Hotel is a place you will feel safe, relaxed and comfot in any aspect

Room Tip: The Deluxe roomsw upstairs are the best due to the view of the ocean from your bed

We were a little apprehensive at first about mawe; but we don't regret it at all. The hotel is a stunning piece of local architecture, built using materials only from kenya. Our deluxe room was stunning, a large space and huge balcony with sea views. I loved the fact that it would take me 30 seconds to walk from the room to the dining area, a small but cosy hotel that still gave us our privacy. Although its does not have a beach, it is on a cliff with stunning views and access to the beach during low tide. The staff are amazing, Joan the manager was absolutely fantastic with helping us out with any requirement we had. Bruno the current owner is a great host and even though there was a language barrier we still managed to laugh our nights away. We thoroughly recommend mawe to anyone looking for a luxury boutique resort with specialized service. P.s the massage was also very relaxing.

Hey to everybody,
i ve been in Mawe Resorts few weeks ago and I miss that awesome place soooo much. So far and different from all other resorts, you feel to be in a private island just for you. Everything is true and typical. All the staff surprise you everday with little treat making you the happiest person. And if you think you can not do anything, you wrong, there are so much stuff to do… walking on the reef, blue safari with typical Swahili boat, visit little villages….

If you are looking for something different GO FOR MAWE RESORTS!!!

Thanks to all the staff!!!

We stayed at Mawe House on Christmas day 2012. The hotel is under new management. The staff (reception, waiters, concierge and housekeeping), the owner and the general manager were extremely nice and helpful. The room was very big with a huge, comfy bed and AC. The water in the shower was slightly salty, which surprised us, but it made my skin and long hair smooth and soft. My husband and I ended up really liking this feature. All meals were included in the price and the food was extremely delicious and plentiful. The hotel has a very unique access to the ocean right on the reef. The water is shallow at low tide and excellent for swimming at all times. The atmosphere at the pool, at the bar and in the restaurant was very peaceful and pleasant. We had a wonderful Christmas at Mawe House.
The location is not a problem at all. Transportation is inexpensive, easy and fun. It's really only 1 mi out of the village. Very walkable if you want to go for a stroll. Most resorts are not in the village.
We would stay here again.

Actually to call this location a resort is like calling the island of Alcatraz a beautiful get away retreat not to be missed. Your first clue about this place is the the road to it where you are greeted by an Eden Viaggi bill board surrounded with garbage and cows eating cardboard boxes The road or what they say is a road would make driving on the moon look like a trip on the autoroute. This place is supposed to be four star deluxe and I wouldn’t award it even one. There is salt water in the rooms and no shower gel. The hand soap which is supplied appears to be dish washing liquid. We stayed in a suite which was like a dark hole however the standard rooms were like solitary confinement within a prison.
This place can actually be best described as a prison comparable to the one seen in the English tv show The Prisoner. Once you’re in, good luck on getting out. The nearby town is a dump and if you make your way down the stairs to the ocean, you’re greeted by an army of beach boys. These goons only want to soak you for money and give you nothing in return. After a while these characters disgust you so much that you don’t even feel like exploring around the area. If you manage by some miracle to circumnavigate them, you can enjoy a nice stroll on the jagged coral or even meeting the stinging nettles in the water which is always a nice diversion.

This is an Italian owned location which caters to Italians so be prepared for allot of screaming and no privacy at all. There is no internet connection to speak of and the only thing comparable is a surf stick which can be used for only thirty minutes at a very high charge. After a while you will resort to anything in order to get out of this dump. We went on a Dhow boat trip organized by the through the location. This should have alerted us but we thought what the hell, anything to get us out. It was nine Italians on a row boat with a sail. Lunch during the excursion was a nice stroll through the mud in the mangroves and to be served smelly gilled fish by the natives and then the floor show which was a group of beach boys jumping up and down. We were then told that we were stuck there until the tide came in. We all opted to wait on the boat and found that it had run aground. At this point we didn’t care just incase the natives turned out to be cannibals.

There are no fixed line phones at all in this location and you are provided with a cell phone which you need to buy credit on if you wish to use it. The one upside to this location is that there is certainly no shortage of mosquitoes and you might even get a free case of Malaria. Just about everyone in the location got sick at one time or another.

If you really want to get back at someone, then this is certainly the place to send them as I wouldn’t recommend this dump to my worst enemy.... By the time you leave this place, the level of disgust will make you literally run to the aircraft!!
