“Another jem found”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

This was our first visit to this restaurant in the 10 years we have had a property in the area.
The first impressions on arrival are the calm surroundings. The welcome by the staff was good and the aperitif's and mous bouche were first class. The 3 course menu we chose was excellent and could not be faulted. The choice of wines was extensive catering for all tastes and prices.
Our French friends who have visited 3 other restaurants in the area with us were highly impressed.
The only fault we had was the rather slow service where later arrivals (30 minutes) to us were served before us.

“Pity about the weather...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

...but there again what better way to brighten up a miserable winter's Monday than to enjoy a good lunch with friends in pleasant surroundings; we chose from the set menu at around 17 euros and this provided a good choice to suit most tastes. Probably the highlight was a starter of chicken livers cooked in port. The wine list is comprehensive and not too expensive, so all-in-all good value for a restaurant of this quality. Must be even better in summer when you can enjoy the surroundings.

“Great location for outdoor dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

Recommended by a friend who visits this hotel & restaurant on company business.

Looks much more upmarket than the three stars suggest: we enjoyed dinner on the terrace last Saturday evening and it was rather good. Although there is a good-value set price menu during the week it does not apply at weekends so you can expect at least 50 euros per head for a two course meal with a modest wine. As other reviewers have mentioned, the amuse bouches are a nice feature and the service is pleasantly formal but friendly.

Not too much English spoken at the table (at the end of the meal my Americano coffee somehow became an American cocktail - quite enjoyable in fact) but perfectly fluent at reception.

Easy to find: leave Mayenne southbound on the road towards Laval, pass the the next village (Moulay) and as you go up the hill leaving Moulay the hotel is well signposted on the right with a light green sign - quite a sharp turn in so approach rather slowly....

Well worth a visit.

“Surprisingly excellent food at chateau-like hotel complex just outside Mayenne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011 via mobile

Brought by friends who know the area, we had the three-course meal for about 45 euros each, and were delighted by the care with which each traditional dish was made and served (we were also pleased by three little amuses bouche at the beginning, chocolates at the end, unexpected in such a country setting). The langoustines and artichokes in a "bouillon" that was my appetizer were in fact in a buttery cream sauce that was practically levitational. Main dishes were of veal and local fish, all very good, and local cheeses excellent. In fact a group of about 40 arrived after we did, making us nervous, but they were remarkably subdued and pleasant--turned out they were the guild of cheesemakers of the Mayenne. They obviously knew where to eat.

A fine dining experience. Food was wonderful. Service was great. Very classy, but reasonably priced. A most enjoyable experience.
