“Artistic, whimsical, enchanting secret!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

I found this place by accident browsing online. I have never been to a more interesting, artistic, enchanting place. Thomas, a Swiss Forrester artist, naturalist, builder, furniture maker and his wife, Christie, have created a paradise completely built by them. The gardens are full of 3000 rose bushess, magical pools and fountains, art sculptures, a whimsical ecological bathroom and a cottage with a bath., the main bathroom inside the house has an aquarium as a tank to remind us of our relationship with water. Everywhere you look in the house is something creative, made or designed by Thomas., from the sofas and chairs, dining tables with living plants, to the wall sculptures and art. Everything has a story and Thomas is a made who is one with the earth. You can stay in the main house one in the cottage with private bath, but the main house bedrooms are bigger and more interesting. Take bug spray as it is off the beaten path and the bites around the ankles walking outside can be vicious. Get the cooked breakfast. Best eggs ever straight from their chickens! If anyonegoes to Queenstown this magical hideaway is a MUST,

Room Tip: There is one room with three twin beds if you have kids but it is not really a place for children. W...

Wow - as soon as I entered the compound, this place literally took my breath away. What a magical bit of paradise with over 3000 rose bushes and other shrubs and plants. I couldn't get enough of the garden with the soothing sounds of the water fountain, sculptures, free roaming hens and ducks and the buzz of the bees and fluttery butterflies. Lake Wakatipu across from the property provided an amazing vista and you can even brave a swim if you wished! The room was extremely comfortable and Thomas as well as being an artistic genius is a knowledge bank on matters of forestry, environment and sustainability. If you are looking for something quiet, rustic and unique, Little Paradise has to be it! Thank you Thomas and Christy.

Room Tip: Fire and Romance room had its own en-suite which I liked.

Always loving the unexpected --even finding the entrance to this space is part of the magical experience at Little Paradise. Kristy and Thomas are lovely, worldly hosts. Intelligent and relaxed. Making you feel comfortable in their little spot in the sun.

Appreciate the garden, Thomas's impressive woodwork even in the floors, the gorgeous shared spaces...its all truly a labour of love. Escape the hustle and bustle of Queenstown to experience the TRUE magic of the South. Always a spot to go back to and definitely a spot to tell your friends to visit.

Room Tip: Each room is truly unique! The rooms with the views are definitely worth the few extra $.

Surprising scope at a magic location. Beautiful garden with flowers, geese and ducks, located on the 45th parallel. Here we found a confortable and tidy room with a large bed in an inspiring setting. Very nice hosts. Relaxed enviroment. Shared kitchen, shared bathroom. We'll plan to stay a bit longer next time.

I escape Queenstown and the backpakers to relax and enjoy something different. I found a piece of paradise.
Thomas and his wife have been living there for 20 years and he is the one who created all the property. The gardens are just amazing and he also used an incredible imagination to decorate the house. From the kitchen to the toilet, everything is just stunning!
I have never seen something so original and I hoghly recommend it to all the people who want to experience something different and genuine.
The owners share the life of the guest house, eat with us for breakfast, are around all day for all our questions, they are really open and pationate by there job. It was so easy to sit around a good glass of wine and meet the other guests. Such a great time!
One little negative point, it is almost impossible to get any internet connexion. But after all, who needs internet in a place like that!!!

Room Tip: The have a litlle cottage, location away from the house and the road. It is really quiet. The only t...

This is really a fantastic place to stay. It's a 30 min drive from Queenstown, but absolutely worth the drive. The inside and the outside are full with handcrafted arty bits. Superfriendly owners, clean and quiet.Located next to the lake, with fantastic views.

Stayed for only one night, but with it was longer. Nice clean tidy rooms and a very impressive garden with some unique sculptures and lots of plants and animals. Owners were very friendly and encouraged me to walk around the garden which I am glad I did (I'm not really into gardens).
Located a little way out of town, which makes it nice and peaceful, no good if you want a party in town ! But great for relaxing. Every room is different, moss in the bathroom (intentionally) fish in the toilet (intentionally) and lots and lots of wood and pebbles. Love the quirkiness of the place. Make it a fun place to stay !
