“So far so good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014

Compared to First World, Resort or Theme Park yes Maxims is much better, but this hotel is aged (although they claimed refurbished recently). Cleanliness is acceptable but the smoke smell is extremely strong. Can't complaint much unless you opt for Genting Grand the next round.

Room Tip: Strongly request for non-smoking floor (although it doesn't help much) if you can't stand th...

The hotel is one of the best u can get in Genting Highlands. it is renovated not a very long time back, so everything is pretty neat and in order.

There is a Starbucks Coffee at the entrance, crossing that u would find yourself in a big lobby with good decor to soothe ur eyes.. the check in process doesn't take long.

Coming to the rooms of this hotel, they are pretty decent, clean, not so big but have adequate space to move around.. you can also find connecting rooms if you're there with a group of friends or family. the washrooms are well laid out with a bathtub in addition to a shower area.

The room overlooks the Genting Skyway which is a treat to watch with all the weather changes Genting goes through.

You have access to the casino from the lobby and the hotel has a few restaurants catering to different taste buds of travelers..

Overall a very good experience..

We stayed at this hotel last year after absenting from it for a number of years. The hotel then was already bad enough, stained carpet, mouldy bathroom and not even having a
coffee table . Tried again last and was NOT given a refurbished one. Still the same old, dirty, smelly room. Very very disappoined ! Swear will never go there again. Managed to last over for 2 nights in last October. Won't recommend to any. Theme Park Hotel is far better.

Room Tip: Never go and stay at this hotel

This is one of the 5 star hotels in Genting Highland.

Check In:
Lobby is grand and crowded but just took 10 minutes for the entire check in process. There are starbuck next to the lobby and VIP casino just a level up from the hotel lobby.

Room:
Spacious and newly renovated, fully carpeted. No air conditioning but with ceiling fan.
Bed is standard king size bed with 4 pillows provided, 1 single seater sofa, medium size working desk with mirror, Coffee and Tea bag with its making facilities. Then there are 4 bottle of drinking provided in a mini fridge with free of charge.
TV is just a normal 32" flat screen TV with satellite TV channel.

The bed sheet is clean also the pillow case, but i can smell some irritating smell in the pillow when i use the pillow, the smell may due to humid or the sweating from previous guest?

Bathroom:
Spacious and clean. They provide toothbrush, shampoo, shower gel , body lotion, shower cap and comb, you can see all this products are not the premium grade which should not expect in 5 star hotel with the high room charge.

The bathtub is deep and big and very new. I didn’t try.
There is separate shower cabin, the water temperature is good especially you definitely need a hot shower on the hill, and water pressure would not disappoint you, good job.

But the design for the shower cabin is not good, as the water will spilt to outside even though the door have closed completely.

Room Service
The menu is placed on the desk, but the price is unreasonable high. Maybe everything is expensive when on the hill.

Other:
I have stayed in this hotel few times in few months ago but this is my 1st time for the review. After this stay i can conclude that the hotel management has cut their cost.
The welcome fruits no more provided in the room, there is stop supplying newspaper. And i don't know what are the things they will remove next time.

Room Tip: Choose the room in 5th or 6th floor as newly renovated.

We had a 3D2N stay at Maxims. The hotel on the whole looked grand with a huge Lobby. Being on a Sunday upon our checking in, the crowd was at its minimal. Our first encounter was with hotel staff, which we find to be unfriendly.

We were at the 10th floor. The room had a modern design. Small space. even with a modern design, we had a Box TV which we felt that it does not tie with the concept.

There is no aircon just a fan but the cool wind had already made the room cool. Toilet was clean and well-kept.

On the whole, its a so-so experience for us

I normally stay at the Resort Hotel or First World if the Resort is fully booked. This time I was lucky to be offered 2 free nights at the renamed Highlands.

I did not request for any special room but was given a newly refurbished room on a non-smoking floor. Sometimes when we leave it to luck it works out better than expected. As I had requested for a big double bed the only available room was far from the lift but I did not mind the walk. The room was just next door to the store room so it was easy for me to request for a packet of creamer or whatever they short-supply us. I found the room spacious yet cosy. There was a huge super king-size bed which I found very comfortable. The bedding was a perfect white and so clean. I had a most comfortable sleep. The sofa chair for watching tv has a leg rest too which I find soothing for tired legs.

They supply the rooms the daily newspapers and a large sweet orange/a large pink apple everyday. I liked the Lipton teabags but not did not like the 2 types of coffee provided.

The check-in was fast and the girl who checked me in was very pleasant, polite and helpful. There is an RM200 deposit which would be refunded upon checkout.

The location of the hotel was superb for gamblers as the casino is located just above the hotel. I would choose to stay here again if given another opportunity.

Room Tip: Any room is good.
