Very comfortable and attractively decorated house with lovely guest lounge and very spacious and light bedroom/bathroom. Breakfast room also very nicely presented and breakfast was well above average. Coffee and tea making available in the breakfast room at all times. Daphne was very helpful particularly when we had ferry troubles - she went to some effort to find the right numbers for us and let us use her own phone, and I noticed she was equally helpful to a couple who turned up on spec looking for accommodation - the B&B was full but Daphne phoned around a couple of other local B&Bs for them. We ate at Bates' restaurant which was excellent. On the downside, the B&B is right on the main street in Rathdrum - the front door opens onto the pavement, and there is limited parking except on the street outside. We were at the back of the building so don't know if street noise is an issue, but the house itself did seem to be noisy - beds and floors very creaky and we could hear the TV set and voices from the living accom downstairs quite clearly in our bedroom. Rathdrum itself didn't seem to be much to write home about, but we could just have been influenced by the bad weather!

We stayed here with the family in three rooms and it was just perfect. The rooms were comfortable and the B&B very quaint and charming. The breakfast was first rate with options for full Irish or just fruit and yogurt.

The thing I liked about this place was the owners really make you feel at home with great Irish hospitality, treating you like guest in their home rather than customers of their business.

The B&B has a car park out the back and a really lovely garden that would be nice to sit in and read... there is a sitting room also that is perfect to read a paper in the mornings. There is a big selection of books also if you need something and forgot your book.

Rathdrum is perfect and small in my opinion with a few pubs and a couple of nice little restaurants... it is also nice for a bit of a walk around too...

We spent two nights there and drove around many other little towns in the county and I think Wicklow is probably one of the best.

We were delighted with this find. Pat and Daphne are friendly and helpful hosts and everything about our stay was lovely. Our room was very comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated. Fresh towels provided each day in the modern bathroom. We also admired the view from their beautiful garden. As before, porridge at breakfast highly recommended!

“What a Find...”

Stirabout Lane

Apr 14, 2008

Myself and my wife have just returned from a weekend away. Stirabout Lane B&B was a super find. Our hosts Pat and Daphne made us feel so welcome. Our room was so comfortable and warm and decorated to the best. It even had a bath.
The sitting room has a big open log fire and was so cozy. If you are staying in Stirabout Lane you have to try the porridge. Daphne sure does make it good. And as for the "Full Irish" - wow that kept us going for the day.
Pat told us all the places to vist in area and was so helpful with directions. We really felt relaxed and they made us feel at home.
We ate in Bates award wining restaurant on the first night. It was so good and we were lucky that Daphne could get us a booking. The food there is amazing. On the second night we ate at the Wicklow Heather in Laragh - Pat even drove us out there (it's 10 minutes away) and the owner of the restaurant drove us back.
Another wonderful place - excellent food and not too expensive either.
On the third night we decided to stay local and went to Jacob's Well. This doesn't live up to the standard of the other two. It is as it says pub food.
All in all we had a fantastic stay in Rathdrum. Pat and Daphne really made our stay a memorable one and are now on our Christmas card list.......we will return.
