“A Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

Very surprised by the Asur, the rooms were spacious & had fantastic views of the rock of Gibraltar, the power shower was great .There was a kettle & tea/coffee sachets in room, costs around 2 Euros for each sachet. The room safe also costs 2 Euros (per day) The bar/swimming pool, restaurant are all on the first floor. Plenty of choice for breakfast (cost 5 Euros per person if you had room only). Staff were friendly & helpful. Didn't use internet/wifi but know that there was a charge. There are a few bars/restaurants near hotel. Not far from border into Gibraltar. Would definately stay there again.

We spent two nights in this hotel to avoid crossing the border by car. We put the car in the hotel's underground parking for 6 euros a day and walked to the border, about 15 mins at a gentle pace.
We had a 6th floor suite with an interesting view of the rock and airport runway (and the queues of cars waiting to cross the border). The suite was spacious and clean; the bed comfortable, the air conditioning programmable and efficient. There were complimentary tea, coffee etc sachets but given this is July, the weather hot and sticky, we would have welcomed bottled water. We had to go down to the bar area and buy bottles from the vending machine. The buffet breakfast is superb, massive choice and all freshly prepared. The evening buffet is great value for 10 euros, fruit, salads and a choice of hot food including pasta and pizza. Well presented and very clean. Coffee awful, definitely not fresh ground.
All the hotel staff were well trained and helpful.
The only downside, which prevented my awarding 5 stars, is the lack of a decent cafeteria. We arrived at about 2.30pm and wanted a light lunch. We were directed to the poolside bar area and the only food on offer were slightly stale, white bread sandwiches filled with a revolting concoction of plastic cheese and ham. Given that there are no obvious bar/cafes in the vicinity I think the hotel is missing a trick.
We will definitely stay again and next time remember to ask for our pensioners discount!

This is a very good hotel, spacious rooms with grat view facing the Rock. We stayed in La Línea because we were told not to try and cross ther border by car - i takes forever becuase of the long lines. So staying in La Línea was actually a very good option because is less than 15 min to walk to the border and then you can take a bus or just walk to the cable car. It's a nice walk specially if it's a beautiful day.

As I said, the room was spacious as well as the bathroom. Very clean, with everything we needed for one day (or even more, I really liked the hotel). Buffet breakfast was included in our rate and it's worth it. Lot of kinds of cheeses, eggs, hams, pastries, juices, meats. Very good indeed. The only problem was that it's a big hotel with lot of bus tours. Therefore, breakfast room was full of people!

We didn't have dinner at the hotel, we walked less than 5 min to a very, very nice restaurant with a great view of the Rock: Aqua. It's very close to the hotel, delicious food and great price! And the dishes are well decorated which is even better.

In Gibraltar, after going to the Rock, it is worth it to go to the lighthouse. Don't walk take a bus. It's far and ther is no sidewalk, but it's reaaly nice to see Africa so close!
If you have an extra day, which I dind't, I think it's worth it to plan one-day tour to Marroco. There are several brochures in the hotel and I know it's also offered in antoher city, Algeciras.

We spent a night in this hotel with the solely purpose of visiting Gibraltar, and the hotel has the perfect location for this. They have an underground parking, very reasonable priced (we actually used the parking until late next day, after check-out, without any extra charge)… therefore no need to take the car to Gibraltar (and this way you can avoid the long queues from the customs). It is a 15 minutes walk to the Gibraltar custom, plus another 15 more minute to the cable car.
There is nothing special about this hotel, but it is clean and staff is very nice and helpful. They will provide all the info needed for visiting Gibraltar, as well as places where you can eat if don’t want to eat in their restaurant.
The view from the room was beautiful, facing the rock of Gibraltar.
Breakfast was good, lots of selections… but don’t try the coffee. It was worse than the one provided in the airplane :)
For anyone visiting Gibraltar, I highly recommend staying at this hotel.

We stayed here one night for our half day in Gibraltar. The hotel was perfect for this purpose. The hotel is located just a short 15 minute walk to the border. Also they have their own parking garage for a very reasonable fee. Our room was on the 7th floor with an amazing view of the rock. Well stocked and complimentary toiletries along with a very clean and spacious room. I think we booked a double superior room. Great price as well. Yes, the staffing could have been better, but it's vacation and Spain is a very slow paced country. Everyone we encountered who worked at the hotel was lovely and offered advice on what and how to see the rock. Buffet breakfast was included in our rate and was a large spread of meats, cheeses, breads, juices, pastries, eggs, and coffee. We did not explore the town of La Linea, so I don't know how proximate the hotel would be for that purpose, however, please stay here if your intent is to visit Gibraltar.

Hotel very good value for money. Stayed 3 nights and were upgraded when we arrived to a room with a view of the rock and bay. All non smoking but smoking allowed on balcony. Room cleaned every morning with fresh towels/toiletries provided, extra pillows were provided from reception. Charge is 2 euros for their tea & coffee so take your own and buy milk from the supermarket (15 min walk) or tea bags are free from the breakfast buffet, which was also very good with a lot of variety. No checks made whether you had paid for breakfast buffet or not (which we had) but as it's only 5 euros each it's not a lot to pay for the amount provided. Dinner buffet offered for 10 euros but other places to eat within walking distance - very good steak house within 10 min walk near McDonalds. Surrounding area of hotel not so pleasant but lik anywhere just keep your wits about you. No tobacco shops nearby so if you're thinking of buying cigarettes on the spanish side forget it as there's such a trade over the border. Approx 10/15 minute walk to Gibraltar border and then a further 10/15 minutes into the centre. All in all we had a very pleasant stay in a clean and comfortable hotel.

A few issues at the beginning. Reception understaffed, our party of 6 had to wait about half an hour to be served as the single receptionist was busy with another customer. However, just as we began to be checked in, a group of young teenage girls turned up - and another (male) staff member popped up immediately out of nowhere to serve them! Not the best impression for the start of our stay. Our rooms had various issues - one room's door was broken and would not lock, however after waiting a few hours for them to try in vain to fix it a new room was requested and was given it immediately. My party had booked several rooms, and each had different versions of the free toiletry sets. Two included interesting items like a shoe-shining sponge and a comb, but missed such important elements as soap and shampoo. Regardless, the rooms were relatively clean (the replacement one less so than others, but I suppose they did have to get it ready very quickly), if not top standard and very spacious. Extra paid for "a view" was not wasted; the views were gorgeous. Housekeeping was good, with some cute touches, although on the final day they took away my hard-fought-for soap for some reason :(

Each room came with a mini-fridge and list of minibar items but the fridges were all actually empty, which although it gave us the opportunity to store our own items inside kind of defeated the purpose of the minibar. The fridges were also not very cold. As other reviewers have said, beware of the hot drinks, although free in most hotels here they were (very subtly) included in the minibar list and you had to pay for them - not the best touch for a 4-star hotel.

Meals were a little shabby, the buffet-style dinner was served in large metal pans that gave the whole thing a vaguely school-cafeteria vibe, but the food was hot and wine and water complimentary. Breakfast had a good selection.

Wifi was not free, again unusual and a cheap move for a relatively upmarket hotel. The paid wifi was incredibly expensive, €6 for only 24 hours on only two devices. It was cheaper to use roaming 3G! Your 24 hours started counting down the moment you were issued your login, so you have to go to reception and request a new password every day! Wifi reception was also not great in every room, mine in particular had a very weak connection and kept dropping - certainly not worth the money. Also you were logged out automatically if you stopped using the internet, so had to re-login every time you wished to use it - very annoying, and by the second day everyone had turned to their 3G connections instead.

The pool area was pleasant and the café clean and well-managed, although the pool itself is TINY, I don't think I've ever seen a pool so small! The photos on their website are very very artfully taken. There is also no shallow end. The interior of the hotel is fine, the lifts are however very slow and the doors seem broken - the sensors are slow and members of our party got hit (albeit not seriously) on the arms and even on the head by the gradually-closing doors. The posters within the lifts are a little tacky and hostel-esque.

Location is good, a short walk across the border from Gibraltar airport and close to the town centre of La Linea.

Would I stay here again? Despite my various issues and nitpicks, if I was in the area I probably would. Although some aspects (primarily having to pay extra for things that should be complimentary) were lacking, overall my stay was pleasant. The rooms are spacious, views beautiful and staff (once you get their attention) friendly and helpful. Overall, a decent hotel but one which doesn't quite seem aware of its own star rating. A four-star place with three-star elements.

Room Tip: You won't regret paying that little bit more for one with a view, I promise you!
