“Practical inexpensive hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

At first you doubt if your navigation help leads you the right way as you have to find the entrance of this hotel via small side streets. If you are lucky you can find a parking space in the street.
It is not a 'grand' entrance and it is not a 'grand' hotel but it is very well maintained with modern bathrooms and modern furniture.
There is a pool. Breakfast is good with real juices and a good selection of cold cuts and some crambled eggs.
The hotel has its own garage in the basement. Not an overwhelming space and a co-rider is a great help getting in and out.

We have been to Gibraltar several times and there are not many hotels to choose from at a reasonable price so we considered staying just over the border with Spain at La Linea. The town of La Linea is not too great but the AC Hotel is an easy 20 minute walk or 4 euro taxi ride away from the border. We did find a restaurant we liked in La Linea but mostly stayed late and ate in Gibraltar. The AC Hotel is an absolute gem, very modern décor and clean. All the rooms have air conditioning. The bathroom was excellent with full facilities and the quite large bedroom was very comfortable with an easy chair, coffee table and office chair for the desk. The beds were firm and comfortable too. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly and there is a good pool and sun deck. We could not fault the hotel at all and as long as you realize that the surrounding area of the hotel is not too nice it was a good base for visiting Gibraltar. In the lounge there was coffee/tea and pastries available all day - we did not eat breakfast there but went over into Gib. We would go there again.

Room Tip: The room we had faced the Rock of Gibraltar and had a nice balcony to have drinks, the rooms facing...

Before traveling to La Linea, realize that this place will feel like a border town. There aren't many places to see or eat at in La Linea and your best bet is to cross the border into Gibraltar for sights and food. The AC Hotel in La Linea is a Marriott hotel, but they'll inform you that they're only a 3 star hotel without a lot of the bells and whistles that come with a standard Marriott. That being said, it's probably the number one place to stay while in La Linea.

We had friends that stayed at the "4 star" resort in La Linea and also the AC Hotel, the AC Hotel was miles ahead of the resort in terms of what they offered. The wifi was sporadic in the room, but great in the restaurant/lounge area in the main lobby. The rooms were clean and we had a nice view of the Atlantic when we stayed there. Expect some of the most compact parking spaces you've ever seen if you're driving a car down here. Also, realize that you can walk to the border, but have some good walking shoes on to make it there and back.

The service at the hotel was the highlight of the stay. From booking our day trip to Tangiers, to getting a taxi in 3 minutes flat at the front door, the staff was always going out of their way to help us in any way they could. So if you go in with these pieces of knowledge, you won't be disappointed with your stay at AC Hotel La Linea....it is the best hotel in La Linea that you can stay at.

This hotel is situated in a quiet location not far from the centre of La Linea and close to the Gibraltar border. There is a good pool and good lounge area and drinks and snacks to purchase in the reception area. The staff were very helpful and they have a good secure garage. We did not have dinner at the hotel but it was a good breakfast.

We stayed here for two nights, to visit Gibraltar.

The web site we used indicated it had free wifi in the rooms, this was not the case, wifi in the rooms cost €12 a day, free only in the public areas.

In the 21st century not to offer free wifi in rooms is poor, even some small B&B's in the UK offer it.

A previous review states free mini bar, the handbook in the room actually says this, apparently its a bad translation, that is why there a price list attached.

The hotel is about twenty five minutes walk from the border crossing, which we found very convenient, though sadly its also about the same distance from the local restaurants, behind the sea front is a pretty town square, but the eateries cater very much for the locals.

The breakfast contains a good cold selection, but only one hot option, we booked breakfast with the room so got a discount.

The staff were charming, and helpful, with good English skills.

The rooms are modern and well decorated, comfortable beds, and efficient air conditioning.

The rooms at the AC Hotel are clean and modern but small. Given the price, they are a good value. The staff is pleasant. The included breakfast was limited but nice. Although I did not go in the pool, it looked inviting. The hotel is about a 25 minute walk from Gibraltar. This is the main reason to stay in the hotel. I stayed only one night but from what I could tell, the hotel is in a residential area so to get to shopping or restaurants, a taxis is needed. I could not tell how safe the area is so I asked the staff and got the answer "it is safe but I am not promising anything". This was a little worrisome.

The hotel is a good hotel with a small pool located a block from the Bay of Gibraltar in La Linea, The surrounding neighborhood is residential and more working-class, so there is not a great deal in the immediate viciinity. It is approximately 1 km to the town center, and close to 2 km to the Gibraltar border, so walking to most destinations is a bit lengthy. There is a beach nearby on the Bay of Gibraltar, and the hotel has parking and there is ample free street parking in the vicinity as well. The hotel itself is reasonably clean and modern, and the breakfast had a good selection with good quality. The room and bathroom were spacious, clean and comfortable.
