“Christmas break at this hotel was excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2010

We stayed here over the Christmas period 2009 and had an excellent time. The hotel is well run, staff very well motivated and really care about putting any litttle thing right or even better.
The suite was recently refurbushed, decor excellent, furniture good quality and the daily service excellent. Only two small inprovements suggested to the manager (a) a higher value heater for the bathroom, it was a bit cold in the mornings and (b) more coat hooks to hang outdoor coats.
The staff need a seperate mention, every one of them went out of their way to create a nice conducive atmosphere and were genuninely interested in our comfort.
The restaurant food was excellent and rather more than we are used to eating !
We will return in the sumer.
I thoroughly recommend this hotel and their staff.

We had our wedding here in August 2009. We had booked almost 2 years in advance and in the time building up to the wedding we saw a few wedding co-ordinators come and go. Emails were not responded to and issues went unresolved. This mixed with some negative reviews made us question whether to cancel.
However, we are so glad we didn’t! The arrival of the new wedding and events co-ordinator, Sarah brought about big changes. She and the new management are clearly more focussed on making the hotel the best it can be. Sarah was brilliant; answering my (many) questions promptly and organising a great day.

Tom (I hope I’ve got his name correct!) ensured the day ran smoothly (even though we arrived 45 mins late after the ceremony!) and was absolutely perfect. A big part of this was the weather (warm and sunny) which meant guests could relax outside on the terrace by the lake all day and right up to the end of the evening reception. We got some amazing photographs on the ground too.

The food was excellent. We got to have a meal trial a few weeks before which was so difficult to choose from as all the meals were lovely – but the sticky toffee pudding is highly recommended! There are a few negative comments on here about the breakfasts but I didn’t find any problems with it.

There are 2 honeymoon suites, one in the main building and a lodge. We stayed in the main building as it had been renovated. It is a lovely room with a mezzanine level and a great view out onto the lake. We are staying in the lodge for our first anniversary as it has now been renovated and we are very much looking forward to it.

Negatives:
The function room is fairly small for anything over 80 people. If the weather hadn’t been so brilliant it would have been too small to hold everyone comfortably in the evening.

We had issues with room bookings for guests. I would recommend asking for a list of guests that have booked and their room numbers and check everyone has a room. We had a couple of issues with bookings being lost and my parents being charged the full rate rather than the wedding rate – all easily resolved though.

Although, many of the rooms have been renovated there are still a few slightly dark, damp ones – try to avoid these. The hotel has so much potential but just needs a few changes to be excellent.

Overall, the day was excellent and one that we will never forget. We would definitely recommend to other potential bride and grooms - it is so different from other venues in the area – and to potential hotel guests (feel free to contact me for more info).

Thanks so much to Sarah and the rest of the team for such a wonderful day.

Difficult to find - remember the post code for your sat.nav. first! It took us 30 minutes + wandering about the moors at dusk. Take a tip - set off early in order that you arrive in daylight hours. Room spacious /OK though a little 'tired',mildew in bathroom, could do with a makeover. I was glad we were in a lodge room, as the main hotel corridors adjacent to main accomodation rooms were draughty and cold. The temperature that weekend was -5degrees C. with snow outside. Food however was excellent, fab menu and well presented in the lovely restaurant overlooking the floodlit outdoor lake and woodland surroundings. Mediocre breakfast could be improved by more effective heat under the 'stainless help youself containers' which were warmed by small ?paraffin cannisters.
Indoor pool warm and clean though spa/ jacuzzi not particularly hot [just about lukewarm so we did'nt loiter there long! Steam room advertised though I never saw one. Friendly staff!
Overall a pleasant weekend break, though we have found other Crerar hotels are of generally a slightly higher standard.

Many thanks for your recent review, I am gald you enjoyed many aspects of your recent visit to the hotel.

The lodge rooms are currently in the process of being refurbished to a 4 star standard and so far 17 of the 22 have been completed, unfortunately on this occasion you were allocated one of the incomplete ones. The remaining 5 will be finished by the middle of February this year. I must say they are fabulous.

Thank you for you kind comments regarding the food and the staff, these will be passed on.

As a note I would like to advise that our latest addition, a Sonas Spa treatment room opens on the 6th January and this will complement the existing leisure facilities.

We do hope to welcome you back in the near future.

Just arrived home from a lovely weekend spent at this hotel. Roaring log fire in reception and a wonderful atmosphere. The room was nice if a little cold at first but the receptionist sorted our heating out for us. The service in the restaurant was lovely all the staff was very friendly especially the man who greeted us, he was always very efficient with a lovely warm smile The food was delicious too. The bar was cosy and warm although when the wedding party arrived in the bar it became noisy and rowdy, My partner and i could hardly hear ourselves think. At this point we decided to go to bed. All in all a very pleasant stay, would definitely like to stay again at some point.

We stayed at the Chevin Park Hotel one wet and misty November weekend, so didn't get the benefit of the lovely grounds. However, we had a great weekend. Our room was pleasant, although a bit cold - the heater supplied didn't work for more than a few minutes at a time. The pool was pleasant and generally quiet. Food good, but the set menu selection was small - only one meat, one fish and one veggie on the main courses. Food good though, staff friendly and pleasant. They could have done with lighting more of the log fires though. Good location for catching the train to Leeds (you need a car though).

We stayed here thanks to a special offer, having previously stayed at another hotel within the group.
We arrived on a cold dark November evening, welcomed by the smell of a wood fire and a friendly face in reception.
The room (no.16) was compact but very comfortable.
The evening meals were very impressive.
Breakfast was plentiful.
Staff on the whole, friendly and helpful.
An enjoyable short break.

We really loved this hotel. Staff and service excellent- esp the lovely man who ran the restuarant. Food on the sat evening was extremely good. Sunday must have been the chef's night off as the food overcooked and poorer quality overall but still ok.
The main bar/lounge is cosy and has open fires, comfy sofas etc.
Lot of the rooms are in little wooden chalets set in woodlands and not attached to the hotel -quirky and romantic .
Room itself had been refurbished very well with simple but stylish decor. It was very wet weather when we stayed so this meant mud trailed in your room from the access paths in the woods. The only other down side is the walls to next room were very thin ( as once the rooms formed one self catering chalet and have been split into indiv rooms) so you can hear everything from the next room - whole conversations! You hear planes too its very near Leeds airport
Overall this hotel represents great value for a romantic break away.
I have used a lot of the crerer hotel chain in past few years and they are refurbishing and improving as time goes on
