“relaxed trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

another excellent stay at Chevin . Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, food to die for and a good leisure facility to chill out after a hard days work. 10 minutes to Leeds/bradford airport . 20 minutes into Harrogate and nearby village of Otley and Ilkley on the doorstep. a fine example of how a hotel should be run.

Room Tip: rooms in the main building are very pleasant, however the cabins in the grounds are equally good

I would be doing an injustice to the group of ladies i was on a 40th birthday weekend with and also the point of Trip Advisor if i did not do an honest review, So sorry but here go's.

This was an embarrassing joke from start to finish - Could it have been:
a) The filthy rooms.
b) The other guests who's younger drinkers were throwing up in the toilets! This was in full view of the Resteraunt where the meal we were having can only be described as 'odd', although the chocolate brownie and honeycomb icecream was its one redeeming feature, and of course the 'floor show' outside the cordoned off toilet!!.
c) Or could it be the 9 girls in our group sharing 2 spa bathrobes and 2 pairs of slippers - whilst paying in excess of £35 a treatment.
d) Or maybe one room being so dirty that 2 ladies were offered complimentary wine for the inconvenience of having to wait for it to be cleaned.
e)) One rooms lights going out and having to get ready without electricity and using torches until it was sorted.
f) Or lastly(for this review anyway) watching and waiting with fellow customers in the bar for over an hour for something to eat - nothing fancy just things such as a plate of chips as one customer had requested !!.

I could go on and on but it would dampen what was a very happy and fun weekend.

I have to leave with one positive note and that was 2 employees (2 girls - 1 blonde hair and 1 dark hair wearing a stripey tie). They are a credit to themselves and their profession as they conducted themselves with utmost professionalism and friendliness throughout this mess.
Also the girls in the spa who's treatments my friends said were amazing. - diamonds among the rough.!!

My final message is to whoever owns and/or manages this hotel-
You should be embarrased and ashamed about the way you are running this hotel. And i hope the promised phonecalls and email to my friends are forthcoming.

Dear Deborah,

As you can imagine I was most disappointed to receive your feedback and spoke to a member of your party in detail on Tuesday morning to discuss the difficulties you encountered.
I fully agree that the hotel ran out of bathrobes, unfortunately our supplier let us down and eventhough we tried our hardest we were short. I have spoken to our supplier who advised me that they had severe difficulties in their Newcastle plant due to flooding from the bad weather.
The electrical problem was a light bulb that made the fuse blow and this was repaired swiftly - I do apologise for the inconvenience.
As discussed I very much appreciated the constructive feedback and have taken action to resolve any future difficulties.
Your comments regarding the staff where most kind and thank you for them.

We stayed hear on a weekend brake and i have to say i realy do not understand what people on trip adviser are on about.
The hotel is a butifull wooden lodge in its own land. All the staff aer wonderfull, helpfull, kined and welcoming. The restraunt is out of this would, over looking the lake, its so cosey in all wethers.
The bar has a homley feel to it. The rooms are very cosey & warm. some people say its dark and dingy well its not. The lighting has a grate warm feel to the place and if you carnt see this then i think you should of gone to specsavers..... its a wooden building and people dont relise this so cob webbs are going to be in there no matter how hard you clean it .WHAT DO YOU WANT. Bar staff yes are some times not allways there but a quick ask at reception is no bother is it? I have to say this place is a secret gem and anyone with half a brain would see this. some people are just not happy unless there moning. we will definatley be going back as i this is the plce for relaxsation. they have weddings all year round and this did not bother us at all we could hear faint music but this is some ones big day. The music went off at midnight and all was silent all i could hear is whe wind in the trees.
FANTASTIC PLACE the staff should be very proud.

Room Tip: in one of the cabins as this is what the hotel is about.

Wow, I cannot believe all of the negative reviews of this place!!

Me and my friend came here for two evenings, we both had 3 treatments, breakfast both mornings and evening meal both evenings... All of this for £150 each! BARGAIN!!!

Firstly when we arrived we were greated by the most lovely receptionist (sorry don't know her name, young, long brown hair..?) who was very helpful and told us everything we needed.

We then had a 30 second walk to our lodge, which was AMAZING, in our lodge (think it was called cunnindale??) there were 2 single beds, in a seperate room a huge double bed (very comfy!!) and in another room a HUGE living space and kitchen!

I found the decor absolutely perfect and right for a lodge in the middle of the woods, but yes it was slightly dusty and needed just a lick of paint to make it perfect once again. Other than that the beds were clean and comfy and were made up each morning!

Our treatments were just absolutely fantastic! I would reccomend anyone to have a treatment, so worth it! Where we got the treatments done was so lovely and beautiful and the ladies who gave us our treatments were excellent.

The evening meal was a 6 course 'taster menu' which was lovely but I was still hungry when all was finished! (don't know whether I just love food too much though haha) otherwise if you wanted to eat off th a la carte menu (which I did one evening) you had to pay a little extra.

The breakfast was absolutely lovely with so much choice and all cooked to order. YUM YUM!

The surroundings were beautiful and in the nicer weather i am sure would be great to walk around and enjoy!

The pool was lovely, as was the steam room and jacuzzi! The outdoor hot tub was a bit cold, but we managed to stay in it for 15 mins or so!

One day we drove to Harrogate (about 35 mins drive) which has an excellent choice of shops and eating places, and the nest day we drove to Leeds (about 20 mins) Shops galore!!!

All in all a lovely experience and please ignore all the negative comments as I had such a lovely stay and I believe some people just go to places to nit pick and pick up on all the negatives and leave out all the positives.

Well done Chevin and all your lovely and attentive staff!!

Arrived at the hotel on Saturday afternoon to be welcomes by the receptionist who was very pleasant. Received keys immediately and were given excellent directions of how to get to the lodge. On arrival the lodge was all ready and spotless, lovely and warm and looked very welcoming. Staff were all very pleasant and went into the hot tub for an hour before going for a lovely three course meal which was cooked to perfection. During our stay we were very well looked after and would recommend a stay there to anybody. Even though I live very close to the venue, it was a treat for my partner's birthday but I actually feel like I was the one spoilt here. Thanks to all the staff for a superb weekend.

I booked a night in an executive room with dinner and breakfast for our first wedding anniversary. When booking I mentioned it was our anniversary but this was not acknowledged at all by the hotel, but that wasn't really a problem. Our room was nice and had a lovely patio area where we could sit with our drinks and look out over the lake. However there was a fundamental problem with our room. When entering our room we noticed we were next to a staircase, but our room was actually under the stairs itself. This meant that every time someone went up the stairs it actually sounded like they were in our room! It actually woke me up in the night and at first I was convinced someone was in the room. We were not happy and politely told the staff in the morning and they kind of just fobbed us off saying oh yes there was an office up there but it only gets used Monday to Friday and they'd tell the member of staff to be quieter. Well we stayed on a Sunday night and we heard people going up there from the afternoon we got there and throughout the night. We didn't press the matter but to be honest it wasn't a good enough response. We also ate in the restaurant as part of our deal, the food was really good and the staff in the restaurant were very attentive and professional, but as I'd told the hotel it was our anniversary I thought it would have been nice if they could of at least reserved us a table overlooking to lake rather than in a corner, again not a major problem but would have been a nice touch. Overall a nice hotel but felt we could better value for money elsewhere, and make sure you don't get the room under the stairs!
