“Groupon Voucher - Wharfedale Suite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

My best friend and I stayed at Chevin Country Park on 19th May 2012. On arrival we were checked in straight away and given directions to our room, (The Wharfedale Suite).

Our room was stunning - we had a duplex room with the bed on a mezzanine level, we had our own little terrace with a loveseat overlooking the lake. It was so peaceful. The only problem I had with the room was that it was so warm. Other than that it was stunning, and well worth the upgrade!!!

The bar area was lovely and we were treated to a close up with a curious robin at one of the windows. The woodlands surrounding the hotel is really out of this world!! So much wildlife.

We had a taster menu in the restaurant - started with venison, a goats cheese volavaunt and a fillet steak. I asked for my steak medium, and it came medium well but I didnt complain as it was still lovely. The only problem with the dining experience was a very rude couple shouting at waiting staff across the restaurant which was totally uncalled for - as my friend and I had managed to get the waitresses attention moments earlier without having to shout across the room.

Breakfast was lovely and the staff were very attentive.

I have no complaints and would love to return!!

Room Tip: The wharfedale suite was beautiful

Dear Vikki,

Thank you for your comments.

It was great to receive your comments and a clear indication that we are on top of what we want to achieve. Offcourse this is not a time to take once finger of the ball and we will continue giving excellent customer service.

Chevin indeed is a special place and our 44 acres of woodland give an amazing collection of wildlife.

Looking forward to welcoming you back in the future.

We stayed for three long nights, this place is totally neglected, dirty furnishings, needs a total refit and decorating, a window cleaner might be useful. Rubbish under sofas, dirty tissues under furniture. Food deposits on walls, radiators, cushions covers filthy. The list is endless. My advice is stay somewhere else.

Dear Jenny,

Thank you for your feedback and must say how dissapointing it was to receive your feedback.
As you can imagine we work very hard in achieving the right standards and am sorry if we let you down.

I have spoken to our window cleaners and housekeeping department to review the quality and will discuss training issues to ensure that standards are met everytime for all our guests.

Again my thanks

We stayed here not long ago for a friend's wedding. The wedding party was raving about it. Unfortunately we were one of the unlucky few who had a room which had not been refurbished. Our room was, in a word, disgusting. Bathroom tiles were broken and wobbling, grubby grey bathroom suite, the shower was held up with cable ties, there was mould around the bathroom window, lights didn't work, and mud spattered on the bedroom walls. It was all together vile. We would have made a bigger fuss about it if it hadn't been for the wedding; we didn't want to cause problems for the bride and groom, in any case the hotel was full. On checking out, we reported the issues to reception and were told that they know about the problems- if so then why did they put us in such a horrible room??? We would have been better off staying in the surrounding woods. Apart from the room, the spa was a bit grubby in places, with more mould around the windows. In general the hotel could do with a good clean; the wood effect which some might find quaint was just dusty and a bit tacky. The only positive was the food, which was very good, but given the hygiene standards of the rooms we could see, I worry about the state of the kitchen...

Room Tip: Don't stay in any of the rooms between 40 and 50!!

After some fairly traumatic experiences, we really needed a break and having been left some money, we checked out hotels on line, quite at random. We were told there were no rooms in the main hotel, but that we could be situated in a log cabin room, en suite with tea and coffee facilities/tv/trouser press and it's own balcony overlooking woodland. Go on then, we said. Wow, what an amazing place. Rabbits, birds and such visited us if we sat still, we could easily meander to the spa, where a large swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi awaited us. Better yet, we could get dressed and saunter to one of the best restaurants in which I have ever eaten. Fantastic food, breakfasts to die for, dinner with inventive creations and ample cheeseboard, we were amazed. We went a couple of years ago and yes, our room wasn't bang up to date but it was sparking clean, the mattress was terrible, but we asked if we could have a harder mattress and the response was immediate and our problems solved-no one would be disappointed at the Chevin! The staff were welcoming and brilliant and we really did feel this was our very own retreat, despite many other guests being there, it's a truly splendid place. Match all this with sitting out in the fantastic outdoor seating, overlooking a fully stocked fishing lake (for use by guests only) hopping with perch and tench. Magic. We didn't want to leave and with it's central location, excellent for visits to places such as Harrogate, no wonder.

Room Tip: If you want privacy and love the outdoors, don't let them situate you in the main hotel, go for...

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for your feedback.

I was delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and indeed our flora and fauna can be amazing. You might have more reasons to return as there are still part of our woodland family life that you have not seen yet. Deers, mama duck and her kids etc etc.

Again my thanks and will pass you comments on to my team.

With thanks,

We came to the Chevin on a Groupon deal (one night stay including breakfast, dinner and bottle of wine for £99). We had previously been for a meal in the Lakeside restaurant so we knew the food was of a high standard. Our room was a quaint little lodge situated in the woodland which was lovely. There were a couple of stains on the carpet and the shower was in need of updating but it was clean and tidy. For evening meal we had the taster menu on the groupon deal. There were only two starters, mains and deserts to choose from however in between courses there were three lovely canapes. The food was delicious, I had the chicken wrapped in parma ham for main, I was surprised when it came and I only got half a chicken breast (it was sliced lengthways down the middle, I guess another guest had the other half!). I wasnt too concerned as there was enough to fill me up with the other courses we were given. I did however think it odd as I've never been served half a chicken breast for main meal! The staff were friendly and I thought for what we paid it was outstanding value for money and a very pleasant experience overall. Would recommend to a friend and will look out for further deals there.

We had specific ideas for our wedding reception venue when we stumbled across Chevin Lodge, as we were planning an intimate wedding at another location and wanted somewhere equally as special for our reception the week after to compliment our special day. From the moment we set eyes on Chevin nowhere else compared-the setting is beautiful, the venue designed to offset the surrounding nature and the staff friendly, professional and personable. We would absolutely recommend Chevin for your perfect day- our compliments are echoed by our family and friends, and we would like to thank the staff, especially Laura, Sue, Tom and Hayley for making our evening so memorable for all the right reasons :0)

Just had a Groupon break at the Chevin. Slight problem with a leaking radiator in the room and no convenient table and reading light on one side of the bed but otherwise very enjoyable. Excellent spa facilities and the dinner and breakfast were first class. The attitude and courtesy of the staff were also excellent. Excellent value at the Groupon price but thought some of the standard rates a little high.

Room Tip: If the weather is good, upgrade to a room with a patio overlooking the lake.
