I just returned from the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach and I cannot stop raving about this experience!
Let me get the negative out of the way first so I can talk about all of the positives of the trip. When you book, be aware this property has 3 levels, the Beach Resort, the Suites Resort and the Grand. The Beach resort is the lowest of the 3 levels, the Grand includes butler service and deluxe ammenties. If you are staying at the Beach resort, you will not be able to participate in any of the activities at the other properties (with the exception of the nightclubs and the Spa).
Now that that's out of the way, here are the details:
Guests: There were a mix of families and couples and both seemed to be enjoying themselves. In the 4 days I was there, I saw 2 weddings so this is definitely a destination hotel.
Room: Standard resort fare. Beautiful balconies on all rooms and great views from almost every room in the hotel. The beds are a bit hard, but not terrible. Depending on when you arrive, you may be able to get a free upgrade so be sure to ask (several people were upgraded to the suites because fo overbooking).
Food/Drinks: This property truly is all-inclusive, no issues with getting food/drink day or night. Room service is avaiable 11AM-11PM and there are 3 restaurants on property and a buffet 3 times/day in addition to a snack shack on the beach. As with most all-inclusives drinks are well liquor (with a few exceptions at the Lobby bar which provided the strongest drinks) and not the best, but hey if you have enough of them by the pool, they taste great. As for the restaurants, there wasn't one that stood out for me, but be sure to make your reservations during the 9AM hour; they don't broadcast it, but that is the only time slot where you can make reservations for the same day as well as the following.
Pool/Beach: Pool is GORGEOUS and plenty of chairs. Great service for drinks. Only qualm was you are only allowed 1 towel and they are VERY strict about this. Beach was beautiful as well. Service was slower, but still existed. Lots of huts/chairs available and unlike many properties, people didn't hoard the chairs from the wee morning hours. Music was played by the pool and traveled down to the beach.
Activities: The staff was fantastic at keeping to the activity schedule which was jam packed. Activities are repeated almost every day, but there are lots of fun things to do. Favorites were the Beach Party on Saturday (with a yummy BBQ) and water aerobics at noon daily. Non-motorized water sports are included for 1 hr daily and there are nightly activities at the theater.
Other: There is no free wi-fi at this hotel (I know, crazy right?) and wi-fi is truly only avaialble in the lobby area or you can have wired internet access at the internet cafe. Rates are pretty high for both. The are professional photographers all around the property who will try to sell you prints (think cruise ship) at the end of your trip. They take great photos and were worth the price tag.
