“had a great time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

This was our first time staying at this hotel in Jamaica. We have been 7 other times and have stayed at other hotels. Loved the infinity pool looking over the ocean.Pool was very clean. All the staff were super friendly. Our room was nice over looking the ocean. Very clean , no bugs. Maid did an excellent job, i do tip $5.00 a night. Always stayed very cool. Being a vegetarian had no problem finding something to eat. We always eat at the buffets. Food was good. Bar staff was great. Ocean was very clean and very blue. We usually sit by the pool. Chairs do go quick, but i like to get up early. We wish there had been a bar to sit outside at night and maybe a live band at night. The evenings are so pretty. The pirate beach party was fun. all in all we enjoyed the hotel. Please feed the kitties. They are so sweet. They hang out by both restuarants. I would definitly go back to this hotel and you should ignore the bad comments that i read before i went. You can contact me with any questions.

Overall, not a bad place as far as all-inclusives go. The grounds, pool and beach area are nice. The rooms are nothing special but ar nice and clean. Balconies could be better but are fine. The food is good and there is a nice selection. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and hard working. The "stars" are fun and involved and I would recommend doing some of the activities and shows to get the most out of your experience. Unfortunately, the ocean there is not nice being cloudy and not very picturesque.
If you like all inclusive resorts its fine. Personally, if you really want to experience the beauty and adventure of Jamaica- go elsewhere. Spent our first 5 days in Portland, Jamaica which was amazing.

Room Tip: Get highest floor facing pool or ocean

We found the hotel staff to be wonderful. From the front desk to waiters to bartenders and beach staff. Everyone worked very hard to make you feel welcome. It was great to see so many local Jamaicans working in most positions.
Our room was spacious and clean with a great view of the pool and beach beyond. (worth the extra cost for an Ocean view room 2405). The décor is a bit dated for sure and there were a few minor things wrong but it did not bother us.
The restaurants and buffet were very good. Variety and quality of food was good. The system for making reservations at al a carte restaurants is ridiculous. Being forced to stand in line for an hour on your vacation was not appreciated.
Lots of activity available on the beach and pool areas. Very kid friendly even though we did not have kids with us, this was obvious.

We were on a Sunwing vacation package. The hotel and transfers etc. where very good. THe same could not be said for the flight down and back. This appears to be a poorly run airline that can't seem to keep to any type of schedule. Seating is cramped and going down flight crew were very rude. This could have had something to do with a number of intoxicated passengers. Anyway not a pleasant experience!

My only advice is to go through a travel agent and stay ontop of everything! The place is beautiful, the rooms are hot and musty. They have plenty of rules. The resturants are always booked and the food is just ok.. we had a good time but I've read the bad reviews and I can see how we could have had those experiences too.. we got lucky I guess.

Our aim here at the Iberostar Beach Rose Hall is to ensure that all guests leave satisfied.

As it relates to the hot and musty room, we apologize for such situation. The AC inside each room is set on a timer which has a sensor that will come on once someone is inside the room. We look forward to serving you again and showing you our usual discerning standards.

While we do cater to a variety of guests with varying and discerning tastes, we intend to provide an ambiance as well as services and amenities that will leave all our guests satisfied. We recognize however that you were pleased with our general service and with this in mind we are flattered that you have recommended our resort and we are definitely looking forward to welcoming you and your family back to our resort for another great time.

I have been meaning to write a review on this hotel experience for awhile, but don't take it as us not enjoying every single moment at this hotel! We went here in April 2011 and have been raving since about our experience, especially after going to the Hilton in Montego Bay last year. The comparison of the two in terms of beach isn't even fair. The Iberostar has an excellent beach with great water rafts to enjoy and the pools and pool bar areas were great. There were minimal kids there which was also a bonus for us. The shows at the Calypso were great and the al la carte restaurants were unique and luxurious. The hotel was overall a very romantic experience where we would enjoy a night cap in the lobby each night as the piano played in their well decorated seating area. I still reminisce about those evenings! The grounds were great and the way the outdoor pool simply looks out over the water in a way where the pool seems to run into the ocean is breathtaking.

We had a beach front room and I suggest it highly, looking out each morning as we got ready for the day was grand.

You won't be disappointed, enjoy this location where the waves are small enough to do yoga in the ocean each day and not feel the harsher winds blowing as you do closer to the airport... Have fun!

This year we aren't making it back as we did a kid event at Animal Kingdom Lodge and are taking a 4 day adventure instead at the Ritz in Grand Cayman... But we will get back !!!

Room Tip: Beach front is amazing!

We stayed over March break (Mar 9-16) and had a wonderful wedding on Tuesday March 12. We had chosen this hotel in part due to reviews on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We were a group of 17 (12 adults and 5 kids) and everyone enjoyed the stay. Even though the hotel was at capacity we had no problem finding a chaise by the pool or in a shady spot on the beach. Staff were almost always friendly and accomodating. We enjoyed three a la carte dinners, trying out all the restaurants and our favorite was Uncle Tony's steakhouse. The food was good but the show a bit cheesy at the Japanese restaurant and the Cajun was just OK. Food at the buffet was generally excellent and plentiful. The kids loved the endless nachos and jerk chicken at Uncle Tony's during the day - a great place to chill out during a day at the beach.

We had an oceanfront jr suite which had an incredible view and we fell asleep every night to the sound of the waves hitting the beach. The room was nice, but linens were just ok and some of the fixtures in the bathroom needed attention. The minibar was restocked regularly, but I would have preferred Red Stripe to Caribe or Presidente... Others in our party had rooms facing the east wall of the property, beyond which there is a shanty town where they often have a fire burning, so the smoke drifts over the hotel property. Others found the rooster crowing at 4:00 am to be a nusiance and some road noise with the rooms facing the road.

We did an excusion to Dunn's River and Mystic Mountain with JTL tours booked through the hotel as well as snorkeling and parasailing, all of which were great, but not cheap. Golf likewise was excellent, with Cinnamon Hill and White Witch only 10 minutes away, but again not cheap at $170/round plus caddie fees of $20/bag.

Shopping in the hotel is ok, we did head over to the Suites and Grand for shopping... That was fine, but prices were generally higher than the new shops at the airport so plan accordingly. it is true that guest of the Grande (adults only) and Suites (has the kids waterpark) get the run of the house, but guests of the Beach only get the Beach facilities, but we fine with that.

Perhaps it was due to our wedding, but we felt that the customer service was excellent, especially at the bars and restaurants. The Star friends were good for a laugh and you could do as much or as little as you liked with them.

Overall, we had a magical time for our first visit to Jamaica, and I have the feeling it won't be our last...

Room Tip: It is worth it to upgrade to an oceanview or oceanfront suite. Avoid the east and south side of the...

Dear Guest,

It is always a pleasure to receive such detailed reviews from our guests, and on behalf of all the managers and team members here at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach, we would like to express our most sincere gratitude to you for taking the time to share your review. When we receive such detailed comments we are made aware that we are on the right path in achieving total guest satisfaction.

For the situations you have highlighted in regards to the Japanese Restaurant, I will certainly let the Executive Chef know so that this can be addressed, however beyond such circumstances we’re pleased to know that you and your family adored the food we serve, as you mention the Buffet, Steakhouse and Cajun Restaurant. Our goal is to served nothing but the best, as we certainly endeavor to offer all our guests a comfortable and relaxing vacation.

It is certainly delightful to hear you mentioned your room and relaxing atmosphere as being major cause for satisfaction, we therefore apologies for the circumstances you encountered with your bathroom and thanks for bringing it to our attention and for the smoke coming from the Shanty town, which is a Local craft market we will definitely alert the local authorities so that they can deal with this situation, however we don’t normally get complaints about smokes coming from that area but we will conduct an investigation to see what was the cause. The department (Star friends) you had mentioned here will also receive your kind words, so that they are motivated to keep up the good work.

Once again thank you for using this medium to communicate your stay with us, and we look forward to hosting you soon in the near future for a more relaxing vacation experience.

First the positive: this is a beautiful building, with inlaid marble floors and our room was lovely with a partial beach view and a small balcony. It was much nicer than others I've visited in Jamaica in the same price category. The pool does have an infinity edge and a small circular area that looks as if it might have been a hot tub at one time. There is a swim up bar, but like the pool, looks old and as if it had some slight upgrading years ago. The pool is not heated and there is no hot tub, and since the first few days were dark and very windy, I was disappointed.

The food at the buffet is very typical of any Caribbean resort - half desserts, some salad, a little fruit, etc. There are "specialty" restaurants which must be reserved upon arrival. I was told that we were "guaranteed" two reservations since we were staying for four nights. However, they do not open until 6:30pm (very European) and the seatings that were available were at 9pm. Since I was travelling with two children, this meant I did not get to eat at the restaurants. I went to each of them, though, several times between 6:30 and 8:00pm, just to look...and they were only half full. I think this is part of their business plan - to offer "upgraded" food and then make it unavailable. I spoke to other families and they had also been offered the 9pm only reservations.

The wait staff were all very nice, tried to be helpful, even though there are apparently no standards or training. For example, a "Rum Punch" means something different depending on who makes it. One had Sprite, One had bitters, another had a half glass of triple sec:( I brought $100 in $5 bills and handed them out to anyone who made a decent drink and to the food crew, resulting in marginally better service.

There is a mini bar in the room which is stocked with one each of regular Coke, diet Coke, grape soda, regular beer etc. I asked at the front desk if I could have lite beer and diet Coke only. I was told that Lite Beer is a For Purchase item only and I should go to the Gift Shop and buy it!They said okay to the diet Coke but no one came to change it. I went down a second time, asked politely for Diet Coke and got a more hostile "No Problem, man". By the third time I was annoyed - I had also asked for a pen and paper since there was none in my room. The desk clerk challenged me - told me there WAS one in the room (but there wasn't - why would anyone lie about something like that?). The reason I wanted a pen and paper was to leave a note for the cleaning ladies to ask for regular coffee (they only left decaf) and the begged for Diet Coke, with which I always leave a tip.

I asked to speak to the hotel manager and was told absolutely not; that there was no manager on the premises, and that I had to fill out a form, speak to the guest services clerk who was off for the night, and then, if the guest services manager felt like it, I might be granted an audience with the manager. I gave up, and told the hostile front desk crew to look for this review:)

We went on the mango kayak and snorkeling tour which was very nice - the kayaking is easy even for children and it was nice to leave the resort.

One warning: the website makes it look as if the Iberostar is one property. It is not - and Beach guests are restrained from entering the adjacent property - it is the same building - by staffers who stand on the sidewalk blocking the way. When I looked at the web, I thought I'd have access to the water park and other restaurants. Nope. I couldn't even get in to look around or buy a t-shirt.

For the money, I would probably go back to the Holiday Inn Sunspree which has similar food and nicer staff, as well as a heated hot tub for cold days. They also have drink recipes so if you find something you like, it can be replicated.

Dear Guest,

We thank you to have chosen the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach for your vacation. We will pass on your outstanding review to our housekeeping teams as they play the part of keeping your home away from home clean and welcoming.

Our pool does indeed have an infinity area and we always review and challenge ourselves to make our hotel more outstanding having various leisure and relaxation options to choose from.

We will pass your comments to our Executive chef for he indeed offers a huge amount of tropical food, along with other various other cuisines, giving our guest options to choose from. As for our restaurant we do provided three a la cartes along with a main buffet, the menus offer four to five main entrée which would have been a delight for us, if you had chosen to visit one. However we thank you for dinning at our main buffet for your stay here, having the wide variety it has.

There are several bars on property, like for example the lobby bar, pool bar, music bar and theater bar each having unlimited options as you might have mentioned, such has rum punch and other spirit options. Hence we will pass on your reviews about the “mixing” to the necessary department and extend our thanks to you as we are always open to advices in continuing our five star services here at the Iberostar Beach.

The mini bar is in fact refilled every other day with various beverages; beer, sodas and water however do apologize about the miscommunication. We ensure good hospitality and services form our staff member as they are the directed personnel you, our guest, communicate with and we will acknowledge and brief each department as to always keep their hospitality and good conducted present towards our valued guest.

Our Public Relation department operates from 9 am to 11 pm, having multiple agents here to assist along with our General Manager and Assistant General Manager; we do extend our apology for not being able to meet with either management.

The dive center do offer outstanding amount of activities and it is splendid you and your family were able to participate and enjoyed the marvelous attraction of our coral reefs.

However we do anticipate your return for and we thank you for your reviews, as we are open and willing to always be improving on our five star hospitality and services to offer to our guest.
