“Yes, as long as you do not have to do business with Joely at the front desk”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Yes, as long as you do not have to do business with Joely at the front desk, everything will be perfect. She's at the customer service but do not have any skills to be there (not smiling, rude, and not comprehensive).
We're back from this destination (Oct.6 th to 13th)
Room: nice size (included shampoo, liquid soap in the shower, hair dryer, and towels). A/C keeps the rooms cool. Fridge is filled with water, beers and soda every day. Bed is very confortable. Some rooms have lots of ants. We tried to get rid of them unsuccessfully.
Beach: nice and narrow, not long (a 5 minutes walk max). Some jellyfish on the right side near the Aquatic center. No need to reserve palapas or chairs at the beach or at the pool. Lots of places because we're in October.
Pool bar: Steven makes excellent drinks. There is no menu so you have to look what other people are drinking before ordering.
Aquatic sports: Parasailing is just great. It's a soft and relaxing ride. Kayaking is fun. Do some snorkeling in the sea just in front of the hotel and you'll see lots of fish.
Food: excellent (buffet, steakhouse, Cajun and Japenese). Note: at the Japenese you are seated in a group of 18 persons all aroun the cook. So, make friends and ask to be seated together. Otherwise, you will have people speaking others languages next to you.
Excursions: Try the Dunn's river falls. It worth it.
Daytime activites: Since we're in October and it is not peak season, they are really trying to do there best but they are having difficulties to find participants.

Room Tip: Paying for a sea view is not necessary. We had a room on the garden and we could also see the sea. N...

My husband (31) and I (27) just returned from a week long stay at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Hotel where we travelled with two friends (30 & 31) from Oct. 6 to 13. Overall, I went with realistic expectations (thanks to pages upon pages of TripAdvisor reviews) and was pleasantly surprised at how great the hotel, its staff and the experience was.

I apologize in advance – this will likely be a long review, but I will be methodical so that you can scroll to the areas of interest.

CHECK IN/OUT & FRONT DESK STAFF: Check in and out were both smooth, quick and painless. The staff were pleasant and dealt with our concerns and/or questions promptly. We had a few issues with our room upon check in (i.e. safe and TV not working) and for our troubles, my husband and I were upgraded from an oceanview room (1406) to an oceanfront room (1229). This was very much appreciated as it made up for the minor inconveniences we experienced upon arrival.

ROOMS: The room was nice, and beds were relatively comfortable. I found the reviews I read in advance relatively accurate: 1) The rooms do not get overly cold as the air conditioner does turn off when no motion is detected (Solution: Tie a strand of toilet paper to the fan, and leave on – this tricked the censor and our room was always cool during the night), 2) When you enter the room, a musty smell is noticeable, but kind of excepted given the climate (Solution: Bring a few B&BW air fresheners to leave around the room!), 3) The fridge isn’t that cold and does emit a bit of heat (Solution: Add ice to your drinks!). We never had any issues with our maid service – the rooms were kept very clean, well stocked (including our fridge – restocked every other day but if you ask for specific things, or for it to be restocked more frequently, they will do this!) and friendly (our maid would leave us little notes, flowers for our anniversary, etc.). Just an FYI, some of the rooms have a solid cement barrier that does not allow you to see the sea when sitting down outside – be mindful of this!

FOOD: This is probably the first time I have went to a resort and had NO complaints about the buffet (both Little River and Tony’s) – food was always hot and fresh, and there truly seemed to be a good variety for every type of eater! The servers in the buffets were really attentive – Ramona was fabulous! While there, we ate at the Cajun restaurant once (lobster bisque was great!), and at the Japanese restaurant (it was so good, we went twice!). The food is excellent and cooked in front of you on the grill – Javaughn and Rohan were fun, interactive and made delicious food! On top of that, they were mindful of guests’ needs (i.e. vegetarian, gluten free, allergies) – for example, one of my friends is a vegetarian and they made her meal first before grilling the meats – gold star!

DRINKS: There is definitely NO issue with drinks being too weak here! I’d suggest asking for the “special” – you’ll always ends up with something delicious and try something new. Shout out to Ricardo (pool bar), Rayon (pool bar) and Dean (lobby bar) for excellent service, great conversation and good times!

POOL: There are two pools – all in the same area and generally connected by a “hot tub” (it’s not really a hot tub, just an area of the pool with some jets). The pool was kept clean and overlooked the sea (love a good infinity pool!). There was a good variety of sun and shaded loungers around.

BEACH: Yes, it’s man-made – but this wasn’t a big deal to us. The beach was nice with lots of shade (if needed) and plenty of loungers. The beach was nicer at the “Beach” as opposed to the “Suites” or “Grand”. There is also good on-site snorkeling for those who are interested as well as kayaking and other water activities.

ENTERTAINMENT: A huge thank you to the amazing entertainment team for making our trip enjoyable, fun and for welcoming us with open arms: Maria (aka. Lava Child), Kirk, Patrick (aka. Lemon Head), JR, Smiley, Megatron, etc. These folks worked hard morning through night hosting day activities (i.e. aerobics, horseshoe tournaments, ping pong tournaments, volleyball, basketball, dance lessons, crazy activities, darts, etc) into the night where they’d lead the nightly shows and dance up a storm. The shows were a good variety – some involving guest participation (i.e. Battle of the Sexes, Ideal Couple) and others dancing/singing shows (i.e. Las Vegas, Jamaican Roots, Reggae Night). The resort also hosts a Beach Party on Thursday nights.

Overall – I have to say that this resort exceeded my expectations. If you are looking to have a good time, then this is the place for you! Many reviews have commented that it’s not a place for “young” people – but I’d disagree with this – we met a ton of people ranging in age but wouldn’t say this was primarily for the young or old – it’s for people who want to have a good time!

As an aside, given the close proximity of the pools and beach and the amount of day time activities, I would caution that if you are looking to go somewhere for absolute peace and quiet – this is probably NOT the place for you – there is always music on (except for a lull in the afternoon when the staff are on break) but we loved this so it wasn’t a concern to us.

This was my first trip to Jamaica and our first time staying at an Iberostar…and I can say with 100% confidence, that it won’t be our last for either! We had a great time, and wish we were still there!

Thanks to the staff for making our trip so memorable!

Room Tip: All rooms from what I could tell had a view of the ocean - some balconies have a cement barrier - as...

The staff is overall great but I have been to so many other great places that this place just didn't cut it for me. We spent our first week at the Hilton Rose Hall and I guess we were spoiled there with the amazing service and beautiful scenery. The Iberostar entertainment team lit the place up for a couple of hours in the afternoon at the pool with typical drinking games and on the beach in the mornings for dance classes as well as in the evenings before the 'main shows' but other than that the night time entertainment was boring. They had the same singers for every show at night. The female singer was fantastic but the male singers did not connect with the audience. Good dancers. The 3 ala carte restaurants were great. Japanese was amazing food and fun, the Louisiana was great and the Steakhouse was average. The pool bar was okay. It looks a bit run down. The pool chairs were old and saggy, the beach was rocky. Some of the front desk staff were not overly friendly. There were some servers that stood out like Omar and Shawna in the buffet for breakfast and lunch. I would not go back here or recommend this place to friends. More of a young, party resort not really a kid friendly place. Their kids club was under renovation and the girls were still operating the kids club out of a hotel room but they were not at all interested in looking after the kids, that was very obvious. Nice girls though.

Dear Guest,

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review about your opinion of your stay on “Trip Advisor” for us and the online community as well as choosing “Iberostar Rose Hall Beach” as the destination for your vacation. In response to the comment where you’ve stated in regards to the nightly show, 4 nights a week our “Iberostar Dancers” perform and all the other nights are either a play, crowd participation (contests like Mr. & Mrs. Iberostar) or a concert by the “Reggae Band”. I will be sure to forward you suggestions and concerns such as the pool chairs and kid’s club to the appropriate department so that improvements may be made to improve the quality of our service.

We are thrilled that you did take advantage and make reservations at our a-la-carte restaurants and enjoyed your meal.Omar and Shawna as well as their managers will receive a copy of your comments so that they know their hard work was noticed and appreciated. Once again I would like to thank you for sharing you comments and suggestions with us; we hope for the opportunity to offer you our hospitality again here at “Iberostar Rose Hall Beach”,

After planning a trip to another resort, a last minute deal came up on this one so we decided to give it a try (and didn’t regret it!) Iberostar Rose Hall Beach was a great resort with amazing staff and service.

Some of the highlights:

-Service was the best I’ve ever had at any resort (including the Hilton where I stayed last year) – there were an abundance of servers always around to bring drinks/coffee and clean up plates in the dining room. By the pool and beach they were constantly walking around taking drink orders – would even walk along the beach and ask people who were wading in the water if they wanted a drink – amazing service!

-Food selection and taste was really good – of course it gets old after a week (I think any AI buffet would), but I can’t imagine a greater selection of food at the buffet – soooooo many different choices at each meal you could easily go a whole week without ever having the same thing twice

-Sit down restaurants were good – Japanese was a great experience (they cook right in front of you) and Cajun and Steak were amazing as well (great steak dinners!)

-Staff was very friendly and helpful – warm and welcoming from the moment we got there

-Rooms were nice – always cleaned promptly and thoroughly and nice bathrooms

-Grounds were kept clean

-Lobby was large and lobby bar offered freshly made popcorn every afternoon (a nice treat!)

-Bar service was great – drinks were not watered down and cappuccino available at the lobby bar

-Premium alcohol included

-In room fridge restocked daily with water, beer, pop (you can make requests)

-Room safe was included (and a good size)

-Beach was a nice walking distance (sand was nicest in front of Beach resort, rocky further down)

-Never felt pressured to tip

-Well-equipped fitness centre

-Beach BBQ lunch, as well as beach party one night were nice, as was nightly entertainment/ singers/musicians in lobby

-Lots of areas to spend time in the evening (sports lounge, cigar lounge, large lobby, etc.)

-Tons of chairs to choose from at the pool and beach, also little huts on the beach (never a problem finding either and they do not allow the 'towel game')

Some minor concerns:

-Nightly entertainment main show was not the greatest – only went to 2 or 3 shows and they left a lot to be desired – the staff were definitely trying, but the shows were often random songs/acts that didn’t fit with anything else and were not entertaining

-Since it is a Spanish chain, sometimes I felt that it had more of a Spanish feel to it than a Jamaican feel

Overall, the staff, service and food selection made this a great resort that I would not hesitate in recommending to anyone. Staff that stood out were Bevon (dining room trainee), Megatron (entertainment crew), Gregory (lobby bartender who gave us a great orientation when we arrived), Sergio (new manager who was constantly on the prowl making sure everything was taken care of) and all staff at the lobby bar (provided us with drinks and popcorn daily).

We have been to jamaica 5 of the last 6 years at good resorts but Rose hall was by far the best! The food was great at the buffet and even better at the specialty restraurants. The activity crew at the pool were super. All of the staff at the entire resort wanted to make you stay great. Dollar for dollar the best resort in Jamaica. We will be back next year.

I only stayed one night, so I don't know it would be like for a full week. The Iberostar hotel is part of 3 different Iberostar hotels all beside each other in the same complex. The Grand is the top end and allows you access to all three, the suites is in the middle and family oriented and then you have the plain Iberostar at the low end. I stayed at the low end and the hotel is about 3.5 at the low end for rooms. However, the property feels like a 4 star and the beach and morning view was a 5 star. Because you can walk the properties, the beach is fairly long for an early morning walk and you can watch the glorious sunrise. Wait until breakfast is ready and eat some delicious breakfast. The pool is very beautiful and drinks flow naturally. All in all, you won't be disappointed at Iberostar if you choose the right hotel for you--Grand for 4 star and up, Suites for family and The plain for good value.
