“Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We loved this resort for a long weekend get-a-way. The Jamaican service was incredibly friendly, the food was delicious (you MUST go the the jerk shack for lunch at least once) and the beach and scenery were perfect for us. Only downfall is there's not much outside the gate unless you cab in and even so, Jamaica isn't my first spot to recommend. The Ritz Carlton however, is a hidden gem and easily accessible for a nice experience.

The resort had a little spring breakesque atmosphere and it was fun to spy on the adults gone crazy by the pool bar. We prefer some peace and quiet but the resort had a nice combination of party and relaxation.

Rooms were immaculate. Service was so friendly and uniquely Jamaican. A great, fun spot for adults without kids or even families.

“Poor Internet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

They claim to have wi-fi,however, could not connect to a single website. The Pool side service was slow. The Mango's restaurant was awful. Upgrade the food and modernize the hotel and its 5star. Location is great and staff are very friendly.

“Almost 5 Stars...The positive and the negative.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

Kudos once again to the Ladies and Gentlemen of the Ritz-Carlton.

These are the top features of why you would want to choose this hotel.

Beautiful secure property with a great strand of beach...especially about 50 yards east of the hotel where it feels very private.

The hotel is very colorful and comfortable. We had an Ocean front Suite that had an oversize deck and felt super private. Definitely worth the extra money.

The staff were beyond delightful. The hospitality of the island was on perfect display at the hotel at every turn. It was above and beyond, even by Ritz-Carlton Standards.

The food was amazing. Each night you have a choice of different restaurants with different offerings. We loved the buffet barbecues every night. From Barbecued Salmon to chicken and steak, it was amazing.

The entertainment the hotel brings in is absolutely outstanding. Our favorite was Mr. Spence which sang, whistled and played the guitar each morning at breakfast. It made you feel so good listening to this wonderful happy entertainment.

Unfortunately there were a few negatives, and hence the 4 stars instead of 5 stars.

The internet was absolutely the slowest I have ever seen at any hotel...Of course one is here to rest and not be on a computer, but as a business owner, I need about an hour each evening to tie up lose ends. It was almost impossible, in fact it was impossible with such a slow internet. It’s 2013, you would expect a more upgraded internet offering. Perhaps it was just our room, but I heard others complain as well.

The daily service fees for us were over $75.00/day. One always expects hotel taxes to increase the nightly rate, but a daily service fee? If you ordered room service, there was still a service fee like you’d find anywhere, so it wasn’t like this service fee substituted anything you would normally pay. It was just a surprise. Just tell me the real nightly rate, and don’t throw in some additional fee to increase it. The taxes, I understand, hotels don’t control that.

If it weren’t for these two items, the hotel was flawless...If you don’t have business to take care of requiring internet, and understand that there will be an added service fee, I would definitely recommend this location! I look forward to going back back, it was a real pleasure staying there.

“Satisfactory...dated....dirty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013 via mobile

Unfortunately the upkeep of this Ritz could be greatly improved! Simple little things like shower doors, mirrors, baseboards, etc. need to be cleaned! Thick Soap scum on shower doors, visibly black dirt on baseboards, sliding glass doors to balcony lots of dirty streaks, mirrors dirty....simple little easily cleanable details that take away from the idea of "Ritz". Food so so.....again expected better when thinking of "Ritz". Our first time at this hotel and first time in any "Ritz"..... Maybe we had high unrealistic "movie like" expectations, but we have stayed at nicer cleaner hotels that don't have the word Ritz in them. The people however who work there go over and above expectations to make your stay enjoyable.....thank goodness for them! Beautiful views of course. Lots of no charge water activities. Highly recommend the canopy zip line experience with the Chukka guides!!! Don't make any reservations ahead of time for extra off resort activities until you know for sure weather is going to be ideal for your activity....we made reservation when we arrived for 2 days later to go horseback riding on the beach that is an hours drive away from the resort.....it was pouring and windy the day of our reservation....pouring! Rain blowing sideways! We went to the consciere and asked if they thought it would be canceled....for sure was their answer....they called the tour company we booked it with and said we were canceling due to weather.....we still got charged full price plus tax plus booking fees!! We would have expected a general cancellation amt....like half of the total cost....not full price! Lesson learned! We will definitely go back to Jamaica some day, just not the Ritz Carlton.

“Dont be fooled by the name, Mr. Ritz does not stay here.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

I must start by saying I was expecting an exceptional stay and when I was describing to friends I was staying at the Ritz, I was met with jaw dropping amazement of what a time I was to have due to the reputation of the line. I will try my best to be truthfull from both sides.
I went as a group and was with my husband.
Check in: staff did not want to give me a king bed even though I had reserved one and was asked four times to keep coming back to see if one available. After the second day, nothing so I gave up after witnessing another guest being given two rooms and two spa treatments as compensation for their trouble, it depends on who you get I guess.
The all inclusive plan is not what you want and once you have that wristband on, your doomed. the waitstaff sees it as non paying customers whos bills are zeroed out and therefore not tip so no service. We found the Jerk Center best to get the best lunches and drinks. Mangos only had good wings, nachos to watery and soup was yucky everyday. The best was the Horizons at nights of BBQ and Latin nights-go there. The White Witch overpriced and best value is to take the shuttle up to take pictures and leave. Rememeber to make your reservations once you get there for all food. as there are no options unless you have a reservation or room service, pack a snack!
Rooms: dated but clean and managed well
Entertainment: just Spence he is good but the only thing you get
Spa: steamrooms and sauna have broken rusty outlets and such. Expensive!
Outside bar normally has 6 stools and lots of kids.
Pool: good and loved the pillows, chaises are dated and broken, towels old, we got hurt so careful. Staff here are great.
Beaches: rocky, small beach and one tree for the kids.
Grounds: had tractors still out at 11:00 and not so nice as what I have had elsewhere.
Sum: No entertainment, bad service, long distances to and from hotel to room and ify food. Find another place, not sure how they got 5 stars and was a constant joke to everyone about who they bought off for that every time you sat in a ripped chair, saw leaks in ceiling, paint peeling, or looked up at a rusty fan.
One last thing..DO NOT go on the shopping tour! it reads tourist trap and very scarry. Do the ghost trip to the witch or catamorans.

Room Tip: lower floors musty, 2436 good room, fouth floor but double beds and you hear a generator all night a...
