“You will love it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

I just returned from a stay at the Rose Hall Ritz Carlton and I felt compelled to write a review. Prior to the trip I read reviews the reviews on trip advisor and was concerned. Let me tell you, I loved the property. The service was beyond excellent. The manager checked in with us several times to see if there was anything else that he could do and we could not think of a thing, the experience exceeded our expectations. We were greeted at the airport with a comfy room to check in and get refreshing water. At the hotel our concierge greeted us with champagne. We had a wonderful in room coffee every morning. We had a lovely breakfast in the outside dinning area. We loved the music and the singing, while looking at the ocean, and enjoying breakfast standards with fun island specialties to try. We loved the our meals everywhere from the White Witch to the Jerk Pork hut. Everyone was nice. We felt as though we were visiting old friends. The spa services were wonderful. The people at the beach took such great care of us. There was music and friendly helpful faces everywhere. We loved closing down the night with a pre dinner drink at the piano bar and then a post dinner drink there. As we left the staff at the door sent us off with happy waves. I hope that I have the opportunity to go back and I wish all of our new friends at the Ritz Rose Hall well and thank you for setting the stage for a great trip.

Room Tip: We had an ocean view room and at first we were sad that we had the ocean view but first the pool vie...

“The Ritz does it right!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

We stayed here Oct 26-Oct 28. We stayed at two other resorts before coming here, and the Ritz was the perfect end of our trip and our favorite of the 3 places we stayed in Jamaica. From the time we entered the hotel, were handed champaign and greeted "Welcome Home", the Ritz staff welcomed us with open arms and the service continued until we checked out and left. The staff here is absolutely fabulous. Every part of our trip and the hotel were fantastic. I give them 5+ stars for everything. Service, rooms, cleanliness, food quality, drinks, entertainment, pool, spa, everything. We LOVED every meal we had there, and most of the time there was live music playing (even for breakfast); it really made each meal special. I loved the live piano music in the bar by the lobby as well. The only thing I can say is the beach is more rocky than Negril, but that's anywhere in Montego Bay. We still enjoyed staying here the best and their pool is fantastic. And tons of chairs; no problems getting a great spot. Also easy access to everything here. There's an ATM machine, taxis are readily available, room service, and shops are within walking distance if you want to do some extra shopping (5 minute walk). We came to Jamaica for our honeymoon, and the Ritz made the end of our honeymoon very special (and made it hard to leave Jamaica!!). You will NOT go wrong staying here. (we did the all inclusive package, and we were happy with the value)

“Great, but too short, vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Absolutely loved the Ritz!

Was a different experience from most of our vacations as we prefer to be mobile, driving ourselves, picking restaurants, etc. So, being in a resort for 3 days was a little different. But, if I'm going to do this kind of vacation, this was the place to do it. The resort is beautiful, the service is 5 star +! Everyone at the resort was so kind and helpful. All of the staff would come up and introduce themselves and see if we needed anything, wherever we went. The food was expensive, true, but it was VERY good, especially dinner at the White Witch. Tip: Try an early dinner at White Witch and you can get a fantastic view of the sunset!

A note on the beach. I noticed some saying the beach was rocky and others saying it is not. The beach itself has a lot of sand, but the swimming area is very rocky. They recommend water shoes for the swimming area and I would say they should almost require them. You must be very careful with the rocky bottom in this area. The swimming area is fairly shallow, so easy to hit bottom. Personally, I wouldn't swim off the beach here, but stay in the pool.

We were on vacation for our anniversary, and when we mentioned it at the airport checkin, she immediately upgraded us to an ocean view from garden view and clearly passed this information on. That night, the turn down service included a heart made from towels on the bed with flower petals! Everyone here went out of their way to make our stay a great experience.

“J'amaican me want to come back again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

You get off your flight and locate the Ritz lounge in the airport where you can check in. Then you can hop on a hotel shuttle(about $40 round trip pp) and be at the hotel very quickly. The rooms and hotel itself are very clean and beautiful especially for the Caribbean. The service is impeccable. What a wonderful place the world would be if every hotel, restaurant and store had service like the Ritz. The staff was so accommodating and gracious and pleasant. We never had to lift a finger to have every need met. There are cushioned chairs on the beach that they set up with towels for you. Drinks and food service on the beach too. The jerk chicken in the shack on the beach is outstanding. The pulled pork sandwich at the poolside Mangos is excellent. The breakfast and dinners at Horizons were excellent with lots of local flavor. The food at the White Witch golf club was excellent as well. The only negative thing I could say is that with our large group of 11, it sometimes took a while to get our food for sit down meals. That said, I would still definitely go back again!

“Still One of Our Favorites....Mostly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

This was our 5th trip to this resort. We keep coming back for several reasons.

Once you arrive in Jamaica, you can be on the beach in less than 30 minutes. There is a Ritz Carlton welcome area right in the airport and they will get you checked in so that when you arrive at the hotel you can go straight to the beach. Love that.

The staff at the resort makes a huge difference in your stay. They are friendly, outgoing and will really go the extra mile to make the most out of your stay.

The Jerk Pit is the happiest place on earth. We usually take advantage of the meal plan and have lunch...every single day....at the jerk pit. Most days they have jerk lobster (you have to ask for it and there is an up charge on the meal plan). We get one jerk lobster, one jerk pork, fried plantain and festival (a fried dumpling). I am a huge fan of plantain and when they didn't have any one day, the waiter went to the main restaurant to bring it back. Love that.

Options galore for where to enjoy the day. You can sit next to the pool or under the palm trees. Even though there is a kids zone, they really do a good job of separating them from the adults so that everyone can enjoy the day.

The not quite as good:
Breakfast is good. There is a different island favorite every day. Lunch is...well see above. Dinner however can be up and down depending on what is featured for the night. We never ventured out after dark and they don't really encourage it. Good thing we were still stuffed from lunch.

There is only WIFI in the center of the lobby. If you walk to the bar, you will lose it. Also, on all of our previous visits, we have been able to use our cell phones. They did not work this time, but they worked again when we went to the Shops at Rose Hall. Strange.

The beaches in Montego Bay in general are not the best on the island. For that, you should stay in Ocho Rios but that is almost 90 minutes away. And, if you can handle the 3 hour drive, the beaches in Negril can't be beat.

The rooms could use a refresh. They are still quality but some are starting to show their age. I was surprised that they still haven't upgraded to wireless in the rooms.

This is just a pet peeve, the balconies are too high. It's a beautiful silhouette for the hotel but not so good for watching the sunrise.

On this trip, we had a few issues with the hotel recognizing our meal plan. It became annoying and we sent a note to the hotel following our stay. They followed up with an email and phone call to address it. That personal touch is why we will keep coming back to this resort.
