“Great, but too short, vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Absolutely loved the Ritz!

Was a different experience from most of our vacations as we prefer to be mobile, driving ourselves, picking restaurants, etc. So, being in a resort for 3 days was a little different. But, if I'm going to do this kind of vacation, this was the place to do it. The resort is beautiful, the service is 5 star +! Everyone at the resort was so kind and helpful. All of the staff would come up and introduce themselves and see if we needed anything, wherever we went. The food was expensive, true, but it was VERY good, especially dinner at the White Witch. Tip: Try an early dinner at White Witch and you can get a fantastic view of the sunset!

A note on the beach. I noticed some saying the beach was rocky and others saying it is not. The beach itself has a lot of sand, but the swimming area is very rocky. They recommend water shoes for the swimming area and I would say they should almost require them. You must be very careful with the rocky bottom in this area. The swimming area is fairly shallow, so easy to hit bottom. Personally, I wouldn't swim off the beach here, but stay in the pool.

We were on vacation for our anniversary, and when we mentioned it at the airport checkin, she immediately upgraded us to an ocean view from garden view and clearly passed this information on. That night, the turn down service included a heart made from towels on the bed with flower petals! Everyone here went out of their way to make our stay a great experience.

“J'amaican me want to come back again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

You get off your flight and locate the Ritz lounge in the airport where you can check in. Then you can hop on a hotel shuttle(about $40 round trip pp) and be at the hotel very quickly. The rooms and hotel itself are very clean and beautiful especially for the Caribbean. The service is impeccable. What a wonderful place the world would be if every hotel, restaurant and store had service like the Ritz. The staff was so accommodating and gracious and pleasant. We never had to lift a finger to have every need met. There are cushioned chairs on the beach that they set up with towels for you. Drinks and food service on the beach too. The jerk chicken in the shack on the beach is outstanding. The pulled pork sandwich at the poolside Mangos is excellent. The breakfast and dinners at Horizons were excellent with lots of local flavor. The food at the White Witch golf club was excellent as well. The only negative thing I could say is that with our large group of 11, it sometimes took a while to get our food for sit down meals. That said, I would still definitely go back again!

“Still One of Our Favorites....Mostly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

This was our 5th trip to this resort. We keep coming back for several reasons.

Once you arrive in Jamaica, you can be on the beach in less than 30 minutes. There is a Ritz Carlton welcome area right in the airport and they will get you checked in so that when you arrive at the hotel you can go straight to the beach. Love that.

The staff at the resort makes a huge difference in your stay. They are friendly, outgoing and will really go the extra mile to make the most out of your stay.

The Jerk Pit is the happiest place on earth. We usually take advantage of the meal plan and have lunch...every single day....at the jerk pit. Most days they have jerk lobster (you have to ask for it and there is an up charge on the meal plan). We get one jerk lobster, one jerk pork, fried plantain and festival (a fried dumpling). I am a huge fan of plantain and when they didn't have any one day, the waiter went to the main restaurant to bring it back. Love that.

Options galore for where to enjoy the day. You can sit next to the pool or under the palm trees. Even though there is a kids zone, they really do a good job of separating them from the adults so that everyone can enjoy the day.

The not quite as good:
Breakfast is good. There is a different island favorite every day. Lunch is...well see above. Dinner however can be up and down depending on what is featured for the night. We never ventured out after dark and they don't really encourage it. Good thing we were still stuffed from lunch.

There is only WIFI in the center of the lobby. If you walk to the bar, you will lose it. Also, on all of our previous visits, we have been able to use our cell phones. They did not work this time, but they worked again when we went to the Shops at Rose Hall. Strange.

The beaches in Montego Bay in general are not the best on the island. For that, you should stay in Ocho Rios but that is almost 90 minutes away. And, if you can handle the 3 hour drive, the beaches in Negril can't be beat.

The rooms could use a refresh. They are still quality but some are starting to show their age. I was surprised that they still haven't upgraded to wireless in the rooms.

This is just a pet peeve, the balconies are too high. It's a beautiful silhouette for the hotel but not so good for watching the sunrise.

On this trip, we had a few issues with the hotel recognizing our meal plan. It became annoying and we sent a note to the hotel following our stay. They followed up with an email and phone call to address it. That personal touch is why we will keep coming back to this resort.

“Loved our stay at The Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We stayed there with the All-Inclusive package which was great. The staff were the friendlist that I have ever experienced. My husband golfed at the White Witch and said the course was beautiful and would definitely recommend it. We also ate at the White Witch and it was well worth going there. The food was very good at all of the restaurants, definitely go to The Jerk Shack (on the beach) while you are there. We mostly were at the pool, although the service was kind of slow, it was easy enough to go to the bar to get drinks. We're just not used to island time. We had a ground floor oceanview room and loved the location of it.

“Great Staff, food good, but not Always available”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

I enjoyed my stay at the Ritz in Rose Hall. The hotel is not the 5 star some Ritz hotels are, but it is close enough. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is absolutely 5 star. My only complaint is that there is a down time for food. Between 4 and 6:30, either you must get room service or go elsewhere. With so many restaurants, I would suggest one should be open always. Why is that a problem? The staff is so excellent, they would find someone to fix something for me, but really, it should be easier. The way the resorts work in Montego Bay, and probably elsewhere too, you are sort of enclosed in the place. Food should be available at least from 6 a.m. till midnight, when a resort has everything. There was a wonderful reception on Wednesday evening for "regulars", repeat Ritz customers, and that was definitely a 5 star touch. The food hours are my only complaint.

Room Tip: This is a very, very quiet hotel--request a quiet room and you will be happy. I was on the 4th floo...
