“Second visit even better!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2011

My husband and I (54&46) visited the Suites for the second year in a row. Everything that made us come back to this hotel from last year was there, and more! We had sent an email about 10 days before our arrival to let them know that we were coming back. They very graciously allowed us to make a reservation for the first night's dinner, since we were returning guests. We received a lovely response from the resort, thanking us for returning.

We arrived at 3:00 PM and our room was ready. We had reserved an ocean-front suite (VERY worth the extra money, as you are 50 feet away from the ocean!), and we were given a room on the top floor. Waiting for us was a fruit plate and a bottle of wine, along with a Welcome Back note. The next day, we received two Iberostar T-shirts from the Public Relations department. Needless to say, we felt very special. It didn't end there, as each employee who found out that we were back for our second visit was very quick with a genuine "Welcome Back".

Everything about our visit was terrific. I won't go into details about the rooms, food, service, etc, because I think that many other reviews cover things in detail, I'll only say that were very happy with everything. Our only complaint was that one day, our room wasn't serviced until 4:00PM. However, they did service the room twice a day, changed towels and turned down the beds.

I, like many of you, have read other people's reviews. I am always surprised to see what people complain about. I am a championship complainer, and I really couldn't find any faults. I would heartily recommend this hotel for a second time, and we're already looking forward to going back next year!

This hotel was the best I've ever been to and was well worth every dollar! The staff all speak English the maids come three times a day, nothing ever went missing. All food was excellent causing no stomach issues! The waitress Tamara at the cigar lounge remembered everyone's names and drinks who came in and was an excellent person. The scuba instructor Jason was funny and helpful and should be looked for if you want to go diving. The resort was the perfect size, clean, lots of lounge chairs and friendly staff for entertainment and serving drinks around the pool. Very highly recommended! Going back next year to get married. If you do water sports book by the dock at the hut...if you pay cash you get 10% off. We went scuba diving 150.00 incl training and two dives. Snorkeling for an hour 35.00 just off of resort and Para sailing for two ppl was 105.00. All excellent prices so I tipped everyone a couple dollars as they all appreciate it!

Went for my 30th birthday. Nice place and friendly staff found a lot of the excursions high priced. The Disco is fun but better with a big group. If you can afford upgrade to the Grand hotel way nicer of the 3 properties but I thought the suites was a nice middle property. Pools and bars were good. Really liked the patois lessons.

We are a thirty-something couple that stayed here Jan 30-Feb 6. Previously we have stayed at Iberostars in Mexico & Dominican Republic as well as several other all-inclusive in the counties mentioned & Jamaica.

We paid for an ocean-view king room. We arrived around 2pm and were given room 3339 which overlooks the kids club. Granted, it did have a small ocean-view, but not what we envisioned when we paid for the upgrade. We talked to the front desk and they moved us to 3306 the next day, which had a nice ocean- and pool-view. Their understanding and resolution was great!

Pros: New, modern resort with all the typical all-inclusive amenities. The rooms are spacious with a flat screen tv, couch, table & chairs, large closets, large bathrooms, minibar and a nice balcony. Toiletries provided included shampoo, shower gel, bath gel, lotion, sewing kit, shower cap, comb. We ate at the Japanese (good), Mexican (good), Gourmet (small portions - our waiter had us get two entrees), and Mediterranean (excellent!). Pools were large and cold which was refreshing to us on hot days. Lazy river was a nice touch, though came to a standstill at some spots. Drinks were good as was the pool and beach drink service (they come to you). Lobby wi-fi and in-room wired internet were good. Everyone was friendly. Grounds and foliage were beautiful. Near the end of our stay, we figured out that there are many fish under the pier by the Beach resort. Take some bread first thing in the morning and throw it in the water near the shaded end and enjoy the fun. Beach buffets were great for lunch - had them two days. Star Friends worked hard to get people involved and were funny/entertaining; sometimes their banter was a bit R rated. Massage! Expensive (110 US), but one of the best I've had.

Cons: While the beach was wide with plenty of chairs, the ocean was shallow with much seaweed. The beach at the Grand was worse. Snorkeling was a bust as there was too much wind/current and the ocean was too murky. We had two issues that did not get quick resolution. One was a hairdryer that blew only cold air. Had to call twice to get it fixed - two nights of semi-wet messy hair for dinner. The other was running short on toilet paper; we called but never received any (this was our checkout day). Shops were disappointing as was the quality of the merchandise compared to other Iberostars we've stayed at. We also like the small buildings/bungalows concept at other Iberostars vs the large multistory building concept we saw here (not a big deal). Food got a bit repetitive after 8 days.

We took one excursion - ATVs. After a 1.5 hr bus ride, we arrived at the ranch. After another 45 minutes of signing wavers and getting helmets (and waiting), we finally ventured off. We had about 1.5 hrs of driving up a mountain to spectacular views of the coast and foliage and then back down. After another 1.5 hr bus ride back (mostly spent time picking up/dropping off others at resorts), we were back at the hotel. Too much waiting around but still a nice tour. It was 80 US per person.

Lastly, I read all the reviews prior to going and got the feeling some of the "1 contribution" reviews may have been planted. All rate the resort 5 stars (it's close) and consistently mention Star Friends as well as having a pattern for the username. Simply be aware and take them for what they are worth.

Very nice hotel in very well kept grounds. I woke up every day very early (our baby did not let us stay in bed late) and the cleaning crew was already up. The food was excellent (except in the Japanese and Cajun restaurants that was OK. I think if you have ever tried sushi or Cajun food in a good or acceptable restaurant you will be dissapointed). I loved the Jamaican BBQ on the beach. Unlike other all inclusive resorts, here there is staff going around the pool and the beach taking orders and the drinks were, again; unlike other places, with a a good alcohol content. We also liked the fact that room service was also included.
The staff was very friendly and in a day they knew the names of my family members. They were very attentive to our baby. We went to a few night shows and they were fairly good, better than most all inclusive hotels.
The room was very clean and we loved the bathroom. The shower was amazing and the tub was big for the three of us. It had a DVD player and you can get movies in the front desk.
One thing that I think they will need is to have another person in the Concierge service (sometimes it took about 20 minutes to make all the reservations for our friends and us).

We LOVED this resort! As long as you don't sweat the small stuff, you will have a great time! This was our first time to Jamaica and we couldn't have picked a better hotel. We usually go to the Mayan Riviera but Jamaica won us over! First let me say that I am super picky and have high expectations for my hard earned dollars. So let me break it down for you...

HOTEL - Very clean, beautiful resort overall. The Lobby is beautiful and all the pictures of this hotel are accurate. The Lobby Bar is laid back and usually has someone singing reggae songs and playing on the guitar - very good performances. The Music Bar is fun for karaoke every night (so long as they don't let kids in to sing :). The nightly performances are no where near what you get in Mexico and at first I thought "this is cheesy". Most of their performances are very interactive with the guests and get people on stage to do skits and stuff. However, you will find it is actually way more fun this way and the people will make you laugh! Good, good times. If you are up for a late night, Mango Walk is their Disco bar and opens after the performances. If your husband doesn't like to dance, no worries, the Star Friends will dance the night away with you!

Booze is full strength alcohol and not watered down. In Mexico you can go a full day without getting a "buzz", but here one Rum Punch will have you feeling Irie in no time! And, you can drink whatever you want from the bar, champagne all night, name brand liquors, etc. Plus, they have really good house red wine - very impressed! Red Stripe beer is really good so don't be a pooper and ask for a Bud.

Food is way better than Mexico! We went with another couple and there were very few items that we didn't like. There was always an excellent variety and we never got sick once! We went to three a la cartes (could go to four): Gourmet - had an awesome steak dinner (highly recommend); Mexican - not much of a selection on the menu (mainly different tacos) but the food was very good and the buffet selection made up for it; Japanese - was great with teppenyaki, sushi, miso soup, etc. (highly recommend). Desserts were fantastic (real cheesecake, not that no-bake crap). Plus, the water is naturally filtered in Jamaica so don't worry about drinking the water in any of the restaurants! Dress code for men is long pants and shirts with collars. Free room service which was timely and good. Free drinks (pop & water, couple beers) in room fridge.

Rooms: Comfy beds with pillow-top mattresses, flat screen TVs for unwinding at the end of the day with most programming in English (unlike Mexico). This is where we had our only complaints. The comforter did not look fresh - had a few stains. It took us two days to get a new one and three requests. We just rolled it up with the stains showing and the maid eventually replaced it. This seems to be a common problem with hotels, and I really wish they would change ALL the linens when new guests arrive. The tub did have some orange stains in it but who takes a tub anyway. We had fresh towels everyday and always left a $5 tip for the maid. Nothing went missing from our room but we locked up our stuff everyday (had a bad experience in Punta Cana at Gran Bahia). They have an in-room safe where you should store all of your important/expensive stuff.

FREE internet access in the hotel lobby so bring your iPads/iPods.

Beach is perfect white sand. You don't need water shoes to go in the water here but you'll need them if you go to Dunn's River Falls. There were always chairs available at the beach or by the pool. The hotel never seemed over crowded which was nice. The hotel has people that make sure you are having a good time called "Star Friends". This is what makes this hotel so much fun! They'll have you singing funny songs on the beach, get you doing beach aerobics, games in the pool, etc. The guys will innocently flirt with you to make you feel beautiful (even if you are overweight :) and the girls are beautiful with perfect bodies (eye candy for the men). Have fun and join the moments! And if you just feel like relaxing and watching, they won't force you to join - which is nice.

Pools are a perfect temperature, cool enough to be refreshing but not cold where you never get used to it. The lazy river is relaxing and it has a decent current but they need way more inner tubes.

Mini catamarans and kayaks are free on the beach so go ahead and give it a try. Parasailing is also available for a decent price ($60 cash per person).

Souvenirs can be purchased from locals on kayaks cruising along the beach. They can't come on the beach so you'll have to wade in the water a bit (makes it more fun). You can buys masks, wood art, jewelry, etc. at very good prices. There is a little village at the end of the resort on the beach but we didn't venture out this time - others did and came back safely. There isn't much bartering at the Shoppes of Rose Hall, in fact most of the salespeople are quite unfriendly and snobbish. There is a store where you can buy $5 t-shirts so look for it if you want cheap souvenirs for others.

Spa area is free, you just pay for services which are very comparable to what you'd pay at home (we're from Winnipeg). We took in an 80 minute massage on the spa balcony which was delightful, especially the foot massage. We wanted the massage on the beach until we saw where it was located, right in front of the beach snack bar. Not a very relaxing or quite place. They should relocate it somewhere more private and quite, closer to the water.

US dollars is all you need. Bring lots of $1 bills for tipping the waitresses/bar tenders/bell boys. The front desk will break your US$ for $1 bills for free if you run out. The staff there never make you feel like you have to tip so its okay if you forget once in awhile. It is an all inclusive hotel but when you see where most of them live, you'll want to give them tips.

Excursions: You have to go to Dunn's River Falls but be prepared for the $40 DVD they will try to sell you at the top. Bring a waterproof camera to take some of your own pics along the way if you want to save money. My husband went golfing at White Witch and he loved it - said it was beautiful! If you do the Bob Marley Nine Miles tour, be prepared for a crazy bus ride up and down the mountain. Hope for Captain Crazy to be your tour guide in the compound. Also, this trip is for people who like to "smoke" since the compound is the only place you can do it legally. However, you will smell it every once in awhile throughout your trip so don't be offended, this is Jamaica, ya mon!

Beautiful resort, excellent service, spotlessly clean and absolutely loved the view from the room not to mention the infinity pool! Rooms were spacious with large modern bathrooms. You could also use the facilities at the Iberostar Rose Hall if you wanted to but not the Iberostar Grand. Lovely beach and the staff went out of their way to ensure you were having a good time. The choice and standard of food in the buffet restaurant was very good as buffets go, my only gripe was that it was in a very enclosed area set far away from the ocean. I have stayed at other resorts where the restaurant overlooks the ocean and is more open and airy. You can also sometimes lose your bearings in the long corridoors of this hotel too. Apart from these minor things it's an amazing resort and would definitely recommend it!
