Mere words cannot describe my love and appreciation for Jamaica and this resort! Great family location, world class service and beautiful resort.
-service, I have been to Mexico and Cuba, and the service levels are not even close, Hilton staff are amazing and they will take care of you
-all-inclusive, I have been to many resorts and if you like to party or drink a lot, they free pour, if you don't want a lot of alcohol, they still serve you with a smile
-the a la carte restaurants, The Three Palms is an absolute must, the service and staff are fantastic and my family still talks about them (I have two teenagers that don't normally care about anything)
-I like to go late into the tourist season, as there are less people there, the staff was still plentiful and amazing
-the beach was great, the ocean was awesome and they serve you drinks on the beach
-on-grounds souvenirs, while not the cheapest you will find (see Bonus Section below) you will find them kind and accommodating
-security was all over the beaches preventing the guests from being harassed by peddlers and "street pharmacists"
-free shuttle to the Rose Hall Shoppes, very simple and safe
-the Lazy River in the pool, awesome, fun and leads you to the swim up bar
-Purple Lightning, Bob Marley and Toasted Almond are my favourite drinks
-the elevators and stairs, the elevators (only 2) were not always reliable and just not enough for a resort of this size, the stairs, once found, were much faster
-the resort layout was a little "unique" and not easy to locate the Kids Room or Theatre, very inconspicuous location
-the Hip Strip, best place to go for shopping IF you like the hustling and aggressive bargaining over souvenirs and gifts, they will be all over you like white on rice, I love this challenge and I will work them as hard as they work me! If you are introverted, shy or unable to haggle, then through in head phones and ignore their antics. Still a must see!
-Margaritaville on the Hip Strip, most definitely a tourist trap, take lots of money if you go there, still a great experience
-Rose Hall Shoppes, higher end stores, do not haggle much, more casual and laid back
-if you are American, they will sell you Cuban cigars and replace the wrappers with Jamaican so you can get through customs, thankfully being Canadian I did not have to play that game
-average monthly income in Jamaica is $200 (not including tips) where the average rent is $200 per month, tip when you get good service, don't tip when they don't take care of you, just don't be cheap!
As I said in my title, this is the resort that I use as the benchmark for every other resort. I have been here twice and I want to go back. Not to take away from Mexico & Cuba, but the service levels there versus Hilton & other Jamaican resorts are day & night. I have made friends in Jamaica that I still talk to 2 years later! The cost of Jamaica has skyrocketted so I do not know when I can go back, but when I do it will be the Hilton Rose Hall & Spa.
Room facing the golf course are less expensive and at times a source of great amusement!
