“All the reviews are true- good & bad.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Just returned from a 4 night stay 7/25-7/29. We're a family of 5 w/20, 22 & 24 yr old 'kids'. This was a quick get-away to spend some family time together. If we had more time available to stay, I would have chosen a different resort (probably the Iberostar Grand), but after reading the reviews (good & bad), for the price, the Hilton seemed 'adequate' for our purpose this trip. 'Adequate' is the best I can say. It is a great place for families w/young kids and tweens/teens. Lazy river & slides are perfect for those age groups. The check-in process started off poorly for us because although I had specified numerous times via email confirmation communication, we needed 2 rooms w/king beds and 1 w/2 queens, at check-in we were told only rooms w/king beds were available. (Getting 3 rooms was actually more economical than a suite.) Fortunately, our kids like each other & 2 of them didn't mind sleeping in the same bed. No apologies were made, nor upgrades offered (and we are Hilton Honors members). The first thing we noticed on our way to the rooms was the overwhelming smell of mold/mildew. This property is seriously outdated in every way- the decor is straight out of an episode of Mad Men (which wouldn't be a bad thing if it was maintained properly)- and although it is clean (at least in the visible sense of the word), everything is simply old. The rooms were clean and a nice size. 2 of them connected and the other was 1 door down the hall. Bathrooms were small- 1 in particular was downright tiny, w/the door just clearing the toilet when opened- but they were clean as well and everything functioned properly. The nicest parts of all 3 rooms were the lanais. These were ocean front rooms as opposed to ocean view, so they had lovely ground level, private patios w/gated, private walkways leading to the beach area. The lanai areas were furnished w/a table w/3 chairs and an oversized, very comfy couch & pillows. It was the best part of the rooms & a great place to relax in the morning or before dinner. I would highly recommend requesting these rooms- they are away from the main part of the hotel (& therefore quieter) and equidistant from the lazy river & Fresh buffet restaurant (very convenient!). They are in the 'east wing'- rooms 150 through 155. As noted in some previous reviews, the ac is not as strong as we are used to in the States, but it is definitely cooler than outside (!) & there are ceiling fans which help significantly. The lazy river/slide pool was great for all ages- we went there everyday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves (the 'rough bottom' of the pool didn't bother us- in fact we never noticed it). Getting lounges in shady areas was challenging at times, since none of us bothered to do the 'sunrise reserve the chairs' bit- but we always found something somewhere. Most of the time we were floating around & around making frequent stops at the bar anyway. The drinks, although the alcohol is definitely not top shelf, were always strong- and always good. The favorite seemed to be the Bob Marley (very colorful & sweet). At times there was a bit of a wait because the bar in the pool was the place to be- but it was never a big deal. Since we were there from a Thursday through Monday, I think we avoided experiencing the 'cruise ship crowd'- I can imagine that would create some serious overcrowding and make the experience less than ideal. Towards the end of the day, 'debris' (cups & straws) does pile up along the pool edges, but if people are floating around sipping libations, what can you expect? They are certainly not going to get up & out of the pool to look for a trash can everytime they finish a drink. We also traveled on 2 excursions, so we weren't there all day everyday. We definitely enjoyed the trip to Negril & Rick's Cafe (2 out of the 5 of us did the highest jump & survived unharmed) and also to Ocho Rios for Dunns River Falls & shopping. I booked these online in advance through Jaital
A little less expensive than through the hotel and since there were 5 of us, we had our own private tour both days. Our driver, Nicholas was great. On the way back from Negril he stopped at Scotchies so we could get "the best jerk chicken on the island". The food at the Hilton overall- including the 'specialty' restaurants (I made reservations at each of them via email ahead of our arrival) was unremarkable & typical for an all inclusive resort, but it was certainly plentiful and we all enjoyed it well enough. We found the staff to be unremarkable as well- friendly enough, but not outstanding- and slightly slow- but when you're on vacation, what's the rush? Entertainment was basically nonexistent during our stay- there was a very bad steel drum band one night and other musical groups. The 'shows' were over, I think by 10 or 10:30 and then there really is nothing to do but sit at the Bar King Frog & drink. We heard tell of a local bar 'down the road' that people took a cab to, but we didn't bother. So- concluding this rambling... this resort can be awesome & terrible at the same time. It all depends on your perspective & expectations. Although the Hilton Rose Hall suited our purpose for this trip, if we ever have the opportunity to go back to Jamaica, I would definitely look to stay elsewhere.

Just returned from a two week holiday from here, had a lovely time, the food was lovely always had good choices we did the three restaurants three palms being the best, the hotel staff were all very friendly, the lazy pool was great fun for adults and children, the grounds were always kept in excellent condition, could have done with a bit more music around the pool, our room was nice the beds were very comfortable, the only downfall was you couldn't go for for walks in the evening which I love to do on holiday, I would like to mention the steel band they were excellent, and a special thanks to Danny who worked at the lazy pool restaurant, we did a trip to seven mile beach and ricks cafe, we got a taxi, bit expensive but well worth it, in all I would not return to this hotel because it's a bit out of the way from the main excursions

Room Tip: I was in room 131 a view of the golf course and a partial view of the sea, ground floor room

the hotel grounds are gorgeous...staff is very accommodating anything you need they will make sure you have it!! I love the lazy river pool and waterslides..sooo much fun...the hotel is about 15-20 minutes from the airport..only downfall is that the beach area is not that big yet and still just a really great experience..ive stayed there 4 times and each time I loved it!!

Based on the reviews I read for months before I arrived, it was pretty much what I expected. My 12 year old really had nothing to do at night. The pool was too hot, but the ocean water was better than I expected. Do bring water shoes. The watetpark was lame and tough on your feet. The bathrooms by the waterpark were pretty gross, so please wear flip flips. The workers were friendly for the most part. The Rose Hall Shops closed at 6, but it would have been nicer if they stayed opened later so there could have been something to do. There was no music by the pool which would have been nice. Do take the trip to Annie Palmer's "haunted house" even if the story may not be true...we enjoyed it at night. Probably would not stay again, but would venture to Negril or Port Antonio. Food was decent, but wouldn't recommend the buffet for dinner. The beds were very comfy and the air worked fine. Give it a try, but think about going to Negril if you want cleaner ocean water and a bigger stretch of beach.

This is my 3rd time staying at the Hilton Rose Hall Hotel Jamaica, if you have children this may be the best hotel to stay at. The food is excellent, rooms are clean, workers are great and friendly, the hotel have a great slide for having fun. My first two times we took our nephews and they had a blast, this time it was just adults and we had fun. The hotel have two beaches but the one for adults is not very well marked and kids do swim there with their parents. The hotel charge $12.99 for internet in the room which is very high and not worth the cost, there is free wireless but you have to go to the internet cafe whis is slow and yes filled with kids checking facebook and other social network. My opinion on what the hotel should charge for internet in the room is around $7 per night, that is a fair and reasonable price, also if you are a Hilton Honors member it should be free. the hotel have to pools, a lazy pool with a water slide and a regular pool. The pool hours are decent but the beach is open 24 hours and yes after certain hours you swimon your own. I enjoyed the hotel but I cant say if this will be my last stay but as far as entertainment for adults I would give the hotel a grade of C. I would rate this hotel in the excellent catagory with one exception, adult entertainment is lacking.

Room Tip: ocean fromt rooms are the best but all rooms are excellent and clean.

We just returned from a 10 day family vacation at the Hilton Rose Hall. We stayed from July 15th to the 25th. This resort is really a lot of fun for families with children. I have 12 and 14 year old sons. We booked our stay through American Airlines Vacations. FLIGHT: American Airlines is not great. I was disappointed in their service. I haven’t flown American in a while but it has definitely changed. Our flight from Albuquerque to Dallas was delayed on the way to Jamaica and they put us on Delta. Delta was a nicer airline for sure. I also had to pay their $25.00 per bag fee when it was American Airlines fault that our plane was delayed. I was not happy about this but had no choice as American was going to fly us to Houston and make us spend the night if we did not fly with Delta. It was a frustrating way to start our vacation. Flying back had no issues with American, but you better not expect much. No snacks and barely any service on a long international flight. We will not use American again. ROOM: To start with, I booked a Caribbean Suite to have the extra room for or 10 day stay. It is a regular room with two queen beds and an attached extra room and bathroom with table 3 chairs, sleeper sofa, and a tv. It did have an extra balcony and was ocean view. It was nice to have the extra room and the extra bathroom but I do think it was a little pricey for what you got. It was an extra $270.00 per night. It should be no more than $100.00 per night extra as it will not accommodate extra guests. LAZY RIVER POOL AREA: The lazy river area and pool on that side has a very abrasive bottom. It will peel off the skin if you use it daily for a long period. I have pool shoes but my sons and wife did not and it hurt their feet. It also gets very dirty by the end of the day. Lots of people use it and leave their cups lying around everywhere and even in the pool. Cups and straws will float by in the lazy river. Very few tubes but you can find them if you are patient. The tube slide is fun and the longest. The regular water slide is in sections and dumps out after a few feet into smaller pools where you have to get onto the small section of water slide again. This is fun for small children but not great for older kids or adults. This is a VERY busy place a times. Hard to get to the swim up bar and lots of people come to this resort off of a carnival cruise at times during the week. When you see the cruise ship go by the resort, they will be there the next day around 10:00am. They get full run and use all of the amenities. FULL SIZE POOL: The full size pool area is where we would spend most of our time. We really enjoyed this pool area. This pool area is close to the beach and ocean and has its own bar area and restaurant. It can be difficult to get chairs if you don't get there early in the morning. There were several mornings I could not sleep and got up at sunrise (around 5:45am) and chairs were already taken with towels on them. I would lay out towels but would stay with my chairs until my family came to the pool. Most people did not and just "reserved" them with their towels on them. Most were taken under the umbrellas and in the shady sections early. There is service at this pool but it is hit or miss. Not always around and easier and faster to get your own drink/food. This is where the Seaside Grill is and I do have to say the Jerk Chicken here is great. Sometimes I would eat it twice a day. Excellent. Here is a special hello to Donald the bartender here. Tyrone-Paul was the best waiter we had at the Seaside Grill the whole time we were here. RESTAURANTS: Restaurants at this resort are pretty good for the most part. You have to understand what you are getting here. This is not the USA and the quality of the food is not quite the same. The service and friendliness of the wait staff is much better in some instances than in the USA. I did tip and my service may have been better because of that. FRESH is the buffet restaurant. It is a buffet. Some of these reviews are critical here but it is meant to be a place to get a quick meal with lots of options. They really do a good job for the most part in having a variety of food. They usually have fresh fruit, salads, bread, Caribbean food choices, pizzas, special selections, stir fry, desert, soft- serve ice cream. We could always find something to eat here. Generally pretty good too. You have to try the fried plantains and callaloo. Also the soft serve ice-cream here was very good. I don’t know why but is seemed very creamy. Here is a special hello to Shanta. She was a very special waitress/trainee who spoke to use every time she saw us and always had a smile on her face. Thanks for the great service Shanta. MANGOS is the restaurant by the lazy river. It has basically junk food, hotdogs, nachos, hamburgers , jerk wraps (my favorite), sandwiches, etc. Don’t forget the Jamaican beef patties. You can get them here!! SEASIDE GRILL is by the main pool and was very enjoyable. They have swordfish, chicken, shrimp, etc. THREE PALMS is on the golf course and you have to take a shuttle to get there. The food was good with good service. We really enjoyed our waiter Tyrone here. LUNA DI MARE is the Italian restaurant. We enjoyed the food here. The lasagna was my favorite with a four cheese pizza for appetizer. Another thing to know is you only get table wines as part of your meal. If you want a bottle or wine service, you have to pay for that extra. This is at all of the restaurants. I was a little disappointed it this aspect of the food service as this is not explained. GOLF: My oldest son and I did play golf one day at the Cinnamon Hill golf course. Course was in pretty good shape for an out of USA golf course. I have played worse in USA. Was a little pricey by the time you rent your clubs and buy balls and tip the caddie. I do have to say that our caddie was great. Our caddie’s name was Warren and if you ever play golf here, get him as your caddie. He is truly a Jamaican gem. OVERALL: Overall this is a nice place to go as a family. I would not go here for a honeymoon or a vacation with just my wife. Sandals, super-clubs, couples resorts would be better for that. My kids had a great time though and my wife and I did too because they did. I hope this review helps as we stayed here for 10 days and learned a lot while we were here.

I have stayed in over a few hundred different hotels. I have to say my stay was not the most pleasant. We arrived at the hotel to check in around 3:00am and check in went fine, but we asked could we change our room. The gentleman at the front desk told us to come to the desk in the morning. We go to the front desk later that morning and ask if the we can switch rooms because there was hair on the towels and bed and we would not fill comfortable staying in the room with the hair all over it. They also said that there would be complimentary water in the room no water was in the room. When we get to the front desk later that morning we where greeted by a gentleman that go to say we are sold out and we need 24hr notice to change our room after talking some more he agreed to change the room. He said check in is not until 4 pm so your room will be done by then. For guest that are already staying I thought that was not except able, and asked to speak to a manager. They put a rush on the room at 11:00am and the room was still not ready until 4:00pm I had my 5 year old with us that wanted to take a nap but we had no were to go. There were three people in the room for 7 days each day the housekeeper left 2 wash cloths, and we stop the housekeeper in the hall way everyday for another wash cloth. There was a bright spot the bellman Roman move or luggage to the new room and explain something about the room we told him we did not get water on the first night later he brought back a few more bottles of water. The toilet in room 593 did not work properly. There was no attention to detail. The employees that worked in all there restaurants and activity's were nice, but will not go back do to the hotel front of house staff.
