My husband and I treated ourselves to a Jamaican escape and had a wonderful time. The people are so friendly and the resort prides itself on entertaining all families. The food was good, drinks amazing, and the beach was phenomenal although a bit rocky. There were a few problems that should be improved upon and please understand that I'm a perfectionist. The rooms are overall clean however they have a dingy smell...I think it's the carpets. Also the cushions outside were dirty and stained. Anything near the ocean requires constant upkeep and there is no reason for stained anything to remain with the room. The bed however was wonderful and the housemaids worked very hard to tidy up the room and refresh all linens.
When we first got there our butler was out sick and he was replaced by another who was with us temporarily. We asked to change our room due to the weird smell and the fact that our view was that of the volley ball courts. This meant a new butler which we saw once and never really helped us understand the ins and outs of the resort. This resort is very big and there are activities going on with no itinerary of events. We later saw a butler walking around with a new family showing them how to get around. Maybe it was just the changing of rooms but the whole butler experience was lacking for us. Nonetheless they quickly changed our room and
gave us an ocean view on a higher floor. Overall I do recommend staying hereand may one day return.

Just spent a long weekend here and loved every minute of it. Oceanfront room was amazing w huge balcony. Staff was v friendly and helpful. Don't bother paying for the "butler" service tho. Ours was nonexistent. Plus u can simply call for anything u need anyway. Including any booze you want. The food was surprisingly excellent. Perhaps the best resort food we have had in all our travels. The nightly entertainment was great and the dance club was rocking. Overall I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a first rate adults all inclusive. Cheers.

This was the third time that I have visited the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall. The first was Christmas/New Year's 2009, and the second was Christmas/New Year's 2010. I was wondering if it would still be as nice, the staff as great and the food as wonderful. It exceeded all of my expectations. How many places do you know that get better instead of worse? It was my wife's first time there and she was completely blown away.

Highlights:

- Mini-bar and pillow request were completely accommodated
- Restaurant Reservations were made for us in advance, and easily changed through the concierge
- The beach lounges are new, good quality and have cushions on them
- The beach waitresses do a great job keeping drinks in your hand. Don't forget to tip them!
- All of the restaurants were still great, but the Italian, which was always the weakest of them, has a new menu and was AMAZING! The squid ink risotto was incredible. Nikisha was a fabulous server, and we requested her again our second time there.
- Wesley and Oneill at the Lobby Bar make perfect drinks, and are more entertaining than the lobby bar performers they had. Raquel is still my favorite waitress, whether on the beach or at the lobby bar.
- Nordia, the Bar/Beverage Manager, does a great job keeping everything working smoothly, and I saw her handle everything from scheduling issues to helping someone who had been stung by a bee on the beach. She is GOLD!
- All of the staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The Star Friends are fun and engaging, without being annoying about it. They can tell when you just want to chill, and they don't harass you to play any games or participate.
- The dancers/performers at the theater shows are much better than they used to be, and they are Jamaican now. Go see Jamaican Roots for a history lesson, combined with some great music and dancing.
- They have beach BBQ's at lunch time, a few days a week, which is really a great option if you don't want to go up for the full lunch buffet. Chef Karen and her colleagues do an amazing job of grilling up lobster tails, shrimp, jerk everything and paella. Don't forget to take care of the Chef/s working that hot grill!
- I couldn't believe the effort that goes into the Pirate Beach Party every week. The amount of time and effort spent putting up all of these great decorations on the beach is crazy. The Grand really goes all out.
- The buffet for all meals is still wonderful. You won't find a better or fresher selection of food anywhere. Ask Shy-Ann at the juice bar in the morning to make you up some of her banana juice, then pour a mini-bottle of Appleton Rum (from your mini-bar) in it, to set you on the right course for the day!
- Iberostar listened and added more Jamaican food to their offerings. In fact, they have a Jamaican Restaurant night at the Port Maria restaurant, complete with a steel drum band playing by the pool. The food was great, and it was a nice way to help people experience the food and culture of Jamaica, without having to leave the property to do it.

Criticisms:

- The spa needs some serious work, and it always has. They used to have separate-sex water areas, with multi-jet showers, plunge pools, etc, but they are unisex now because many things are broken so they combined the spa area. The steam room wasn't working, and one of the plunge pools was not at the temperature that it was supposed to be. That said, my wife and I had the best couples hot stone massge that we have ever had. Ask for Charmaine and Bitsey. The shower/changing areas and the therapy rooms were clean and relaxing.

- The gym is small and shared by all three properties. As always, at least two of the four treadmills are broken. However, the weights and gym equipment was still in great working order, and we were able to get our weight workouts done. If you stay during a high-occupancy time, you have to get there either early, middle of the day or late to get it done.

Other Tips/Recommendations:

- Pay the extra fee and use Club Mobay, both on the way in and going out. It's an insurance policy that if your flight comes in at the same time as others, you will get to use the expedited line, instead of waiting for 30 min to an hour. We heard several Jamaican travelers say they never go without it. We were very happy that we used it in and out of Mobay.

- We used Clive's Transportation to and from. I'm split on using them again. When we arrived, their driver was late, and was not the driver that was supposed to take us. Our driver said that his friend asked him to take us because he had to take someone else. Of course our driver didn't have any water or beer onboard, which is what they promise you on their website. Going back to the airport, our driver was 15 minutes early, which was appreciated. Clive's, just like any taxi, is $30 each way, so you can really just use a regular taxi.

- The Shoppes at Rose Hall provides a free shuttle bus every day from the Grand to the shopping area, every hour on the hour. It's mostly jewelry and souvenier shops there, but you can haggle with them. Something to do if it is cloudy or raining. You won't need more than an hour or two there though.

- If you walk all the way down the beach, past the dock, you will exit the property and come to the Lilliput Village, which is where the Rastas sell their wares. Iberostar provides a guard there at the property line, and you will read a sign that says they are not responsible for your safety there, but it is completely safe. The Rastas have t-shirts, wood carvings, jewelry, etc. They are respectful if you don't want to buy ganja, and they are very grateful to have you there. Of course you can bargain with them, but they are so poor that you feel bad driving too hard to save a dollar or two. My older parents have gone there every trip, and have never had a problem. Check them out.

- If you don't want to walk that far to the Lilliput Village, or it is out of your comfort zone, from 6 am to 7 am, and again at 6 pm to 7 pm, there are local guys that are permitted to stand at the water's edge in front of the grand to sell their wares. The property guards watch them closely to make sure they don't come up on the beach any farther than that. They sell wood carvings, jewelery, and of course, ganja. You can bargain with them for carvings and knick-knacks too. The best guy is Mark, who always wears a Chinese straw hat, and comes via kayak. He has been doing this for years and years, and he is a good guy.

Nothing else to say except that the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall is one of the few places in the world that I have been to that gets better with age. It's a beautiful property, with great staff and it is well run by management. Thank you to Jonay and Santo! We'll be back again...

Quick review. Food was great, nice hotel but was truly about the wonderful staff. Big shout out to the pool bar crew (Ricardo aka Ricky, Daveon, Dwayne aka D-Wayne) and Avian. The impromptu "Big Bamboo" performance made the week!! Thanks all for a great vacation.

We travelled from the UK in May for our Honeymoon. Flight with Thomson on their Dreamliner was great and I'm not a good flier. We upgraded to extra space seats which were fine, had thought about premium upgrade but glad we didn't, not necessary.

The first thing to strike us when we arrived at the resort was not actually the splendour, which it has in abundance, it was the genuine friendliness of the staff that greeted us, checked us in and showed us our room. Just a perfect welcome after a long trip.

Throughout our stay the staff couldn't do enough for us. The star friends entertainment team were brilliant, they made an effort to get to know you yet were great judges of letting you do as you wished, if you wanted to be at the centre of their antics then great, if you wanted to watch and relax then no problem mon!

Thunder and particularly Stella made our trip fun but the whole team were great. Stella taught us that rain in Jamaica is just liquid sunshine, that kind off summed up the great attitude of everyone we met.

Of the other staff those that made an impression on us were
All the front desk team
Karen who looked after us in the buffet which was every bit as beautiful as the restaurants and the variety was incredible, breakfast also was brilliant in terms of choice and volume!
Jodie Kay who always looked out for us in the evenings when we would tend to have a few drinks in the bar and take in whatever show was on after dinner. If you want to see a show try to eat earlier as they start about 9.30. The Pirate beach party is a must, great fun.
Cody and Peter who were dancers in the show were friendly towards us particularly.

The only thing we didn't really get the hang of was the butler, our fault, not his.. We just didn't really see the need and didn't use the service. Dialling direct to room service worked just fine and whether it was extra drinks or food it turned up within a reasonable period.

We were unsure of the tipping culture before going but soon worked out what we felt comfortable doing. This was to tip $5 for things like room service and table service in the evenings or if someone was especially nice at breakfast or lunch. We then tipped $1 every time we got a drink from either the pool/ bar servers. This meant we probably spent about $500 on tips which we were happy with and the staff seemed very appreciative of. No one seemed to expect this thoughexcept the butler, and I'm sure some people tip less and many tip much more, just do what you feel happy with and don't be afraid you will be frowned upon if you don't tip although in my opinion such great service deserves to be recognised.

During the day we pretty much spent time around the pool and beach which were all beautifully kept. Lunch at the Buffett overlooking the the beach and clear blue sea every day was lovely and beach BBQ was a regular feature for lunch.

Basil the lifeguard, thank you for looking after my wife's jelly fish sting. In her opinion you saved her life!

Whoever is in charge of the food at the Grand and all the people you don't see that prepare the food deserve a mention, we experienced nothing other than excellent food everywhere we ate throughout the resort. Of the restaurants we loved the buffets but also really enjoyed the Jamaican.

You have the use of all 3 hotels along the strip if you stay at the Grand but to honest we didn't go elsewhere, the Grand was that good.

We would love to return one day and we are sure we will. If you are considering the Grand I would absolutely recommend it.

This hotel is worthy of its five star rating; great service, great pool, great beach everything was perfect. What impressed me the most is the local food (Jamaican) tasted authentic unlike most other all inclusive resorts.

Unforgettable! This was paradise for my wife and I, everything from the time we arrived at the hotel was nothing to say the less, than spectacular. The hotel management at check in was very polite and very thorough on explaining the accommodations’ to us and use of currency and exchange. When we were escorted to our room by our butler the room and view were breath taking, our butler was very polite and explained to us all amenities provided in the room and to call for whatever we needed. Our day butler cannot go without recognition, his name is Duran, he assisted us overwhelmingly, and there are no words which could describe his attitude and hospitality towards us, when we return if possible we will request him personally. My wife and I were celebrating our 5th anniversary, and this was the first time outside of a cruise, that we had visited Jamaica. The food was excellent as well as the entertainment and the drinks were off the chain, we don’t normally drink a lot but we kept the drinks constantly coming, we loved the frozen daiquiris. The pool and beach were clean and breathe taking, we loved eating breakfast at the restaurant by the beach. We dreaded the day our vacation came to an end, prior to leaving we were already planning out next anniversary at the same location except next time our stay will be longer. Upon our return home we have highly recommended to our family and friends if they’re in the mind for a getaway without kids this is the perfect place to go. Excellent!
