Wow--just got back from the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall and we are missing it already! The things that stand out the most aren't things at all--they're the lovely people that work at the resort and the beautiful setting and beach.
Staff there were AHHH-MAAAAY-ZING!!! Dexter at check-in gave us an upgrade for my birthday/belated honeymoon gift. Welcoming drink and cool washcloth served. Butlers Stephen and Kevin made sure my birthday and honeymoon were fabulous with bubblebaths, champagne, balloons, etc. Entertainment staff and shows were great--especially the Beach Party! So much fun! Shout out to Bubbles, Kiki, Thunda, Fresh, Mr Awesome, Diamond, and all the others from the trouble-making-tall couple :) Our server at the Italian restaurant went above and beyond--Kareem or Hakeem, I think his name was--superb server coming from a prior server myself ;) In the buffet, Rhoan was top notch with quickly refilled drinks and magic tricks to entertain us!
For an AI, the food was very good. Omelette and waffle stations made to order every morning, pasta made-to-order for lunch and dinner. Freshly squeezed juices, umpteen desserts, ice creams, cheeses, etc. We're vegetarian so didn't enjoy the meats or seafood, but tons of that to choose from. Top shelf liquors, though not poured strong IMO. Fully stocked bar in our room including wines, beers, sodas, waters, and liquors. The only thing that we could have done better was to have the restaurants open a bit later so as not to rush from our daily/evening activities to make dinner. Also no place for nightly snacks other than room service. Japanese and Italian restaurants very tasty!
Beach was beautiful with activities if you wanted to kayak or try wind-surfing, though we just laid out by the beach and pool or went for a swim and partook in activities. Beach a tad rocky in spots--definitely further down towards the other Iberostars next door, though still plenty of white sand near the chairs. Get your chairs early or they're all taken up.
Tons of activities you can take or leave like yoga, horseshoes, ping-pong, tie-dying t-shirts, wine-tasting, Bingo, magic carpet ride :), and football tossing.
Fitness center was a let-down. 2 of 4 treadmills not working and 2 of 3 elliptical machines broken. Plenty of free weights and other weight equipment and the cycling class in the mornings offered was awesome! Great instructor.
Though tips are welcome there, staff doesn't make you feel like they are hanging around waiting for their tip as I have experienced elsewhere. However, the staff there make you want to tip them because of their great service and smiles--especially if you go off the resort and see how most Jamaicans live--definitely not a wealthy country for most.
Wi-Fi connection spotty, but they fixed it when it went down for my husband.
We talked about returning to this resort again next year we loved it so much. We were there for 1 week, but many travelers were there for 2 weeks, which we may do next time!
Thanks to everyone at Iberostar for making our trip so lovely!
Must go off-site to do the Luminous Lagoon--tour leaves from resort.
