“Definitely worth returning!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

After too many bad reviews on a booked resort elsewhere in Jamaica we revised our plans and chose Iberostar Grand......and we couldn't be happier!

We took our grown children on their first Jamaica vacation. It was perfect. We have stayed around the coast of Jamaica...Montego, Lucea, Ocho Rios, visited Negril and Iberostar Grand is by far the best resort we have stayed at.

I don't want to make this lengthy but I easily could with all the rave I would like to submit. Water is beautiful, rooms are perfect, entertainment is great, food is delicious, pool is entertaining, and the staff is beyond any we have ever encountered.

We will definitely be returning next year!

Iberostar is a wonderful resort with great food, friendly staff and beautiful pools and beaches. However.....Jamaica needs to do some work on improving the wait times in the airport. We probably spent one and a half hours in the airport in lines that barely moved coming in and leaving. On top of our travel agent booking flights that took us 8 hours to get to Jamaica due to extended layovers, we're talking almost 10 hours from departure to arriving at our hotel! I feel like I just got back from Turkey or Indonesia. I know Jamaica is on "island time" but more consideration from airport workers for tourists who have traveled so far to visit is needed if they expect people to come back. It almost seemed as if the workers were deliberately working slower as the lines got longer. Terrible.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor have nicer bathrooms with tubs and mirrored doors.

Dear Guest:

Thank you for your informative review. Since your complaint stems mainly from your wait time in the immigration line we would suggest you submit your concerns directly to our Ministry of National Security via the following email address sia@mns.gov.jm be sure to include the date of your arrival, flight time and the flight which you had arrived on in your email. Such information would of course assist them in in-pointing problems e.g. adequate staffing for flights.

We would also alert passengers that during peak season such as Summer there can be lengthy waits. One suggestion would be to arrange with VIP Attractions a private company who provides a private lounge for arriving passengers as well as provide faster processing with immigration as part of your package. Cost is minimal and you may contact them via their website vipattractions.com. Trip Advisor reviews for the company can be found under the “Club Mobay Departure Lounge” name.

We look forward to hosting you again.

This destination was a slam-dunk in celebration of our 35th wedding anniversary. The facilities were beautiful in every way. The staff were more than accommodating with no request too hard for them to fulfill. It seemed like each time we left our room the staff were there to straighten up for us. The Butler was on call 24-7 to meet our every need from dinner reservations to supplying just the right pillow for the bed. Don't hesitate to mention that your stay is in celebration of a special event as they will do everything they can to make your time their extra-special. With out a doubt, the pampering begins from the time you walk unto the property and are offered a cool towel from your long, hot journey (15 minutes from the airport) and the welcome drink of a cold Mimosa until checkout on your last day! We were definitely sad to leave. The food was exquisite with more than enough options to cater to our every desire. We would highly recommend this place!!!

Ok! Just returned from the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall on yesterday. To start the resort is BEAUTIFUL!!!! The landscaping, the pools, the beach, the lobby, the rooms, the restaurant, the game room.... all BEAUTIFUL. I will start with our arrival.

Check-in:
We arrived on a Tuesday @ 12:30 pm. The check-in was smooth with no problems. Our rooms were even ready when we arrived so no waiting at all. The bellman (with our bags) showed us to our room right after we received our mimosa. Oh yea, cold towel as soon as you arrive as well.

The room:
We were in room 6302 just above the lobby. This was good for us as we were close to the elevator and we were able to pick up wi-fi in our room. As for now, the Lobby was only place to get wi-fi but learned that they are in the process of having the entire resort wi-fi accessible. The rooms are just as they appear on the website photo gallery.

Our butlers:
Raneish and Marlon were are butlers. They were both awesome! Raneish was our daytime butler and Marlon had the evening shift. They were extremely helpful with anything we needed from filling our ice buckets to making our diner reservations to drawing our anniversary spa bath.

The STAR friends:
The STAR friends are AWESOME! Shout out to Keke, Bubbles, Diva, and Shortcake for making my pool time so much fun. They are very fun and energetic but not pushy.

The Resturants:
The Cornwall (Buffet) Really good. We ended up eating there most of the time
The Surf & Turf: Great steaks (FYI: Jamaica law prevents fishing for lobster April 8- June 30th, so no Lobster during this period.) I was very disappointed but had to get over it since It's the Law. The shrimp were really good though.
Japanese: Food was good and chefs were entertaining.
Gourmet: Did not eat there
Italian: Did not eat there

The Pool:
The pool is great. Chairs and beds for those who love sun and plenty of shaded chairs for those who don't. There is an activity pool with basketball and volleyball and the chill pool and of course the pool bar. Note that the pool closes at 6pm so I would make my diner reservations a little later to allow full pool time and time to get dressed for diner. The pool service was a bit slow at times. I think there are about 2-3 waitresses working the entire area. But drinks were ok.

The bars & drinks:
The service at the bars can be slow at times so just have a relaxed spirit and it should be fine. The lobby bar only had 2 bartenders and it gets crowded in the evening. I'm a margarita girl. The best margarita I had was the Blue margarita. But their Martinis were great. I loved the Cosmos.
No Patron tequila just 1800. Also no energy drinks for mixing either.

Entertainment:

The nightly shows were good. We went to Reggae night, The beach party on Thursday, we skipped Big Band night, then Ideal Couple on Saturday was awesome. Again, Keke and the Star friends are great.

Excursions:
We did Dunn's River Fall and Mystic Mountain. Dunn's River Falls was great for photo ops. You have the option to do the the 45 minute group hike up the waterfall or you can walk on the boardwalk and down to the beach. (YOU WILL NEED WATER SHOES)

Mystic Mountain was soooooo much fun. We did the sky explorer (required), the bobsled, and the zipline. You should bring mosquito repellant if you plan on ziplining. Also take your camera and some cash on the zipline so you can take pics and buy your action pic if you like.

Ok. This review is long and im sure i'm leaving something out. But overall the resort is awesome. Jamaica is a fun and relaxing place and the Iberostar Grand is a spectacular resort. Don't hesitate to book if you want to relax and/or have fun. It's is built for both.

Room Tip: Room 6302 close to elevator but not too noisy and had access to wi-fi in our room.

Great resort, just the right size. Beautiful beach! My first trip to Jamaica was perfect because of this resort. If you want relaxation and high class this is the resort for you. Everything is a short few steps from your hotel room. The rooms are well stocked with refreshments and the beds are very comfortable. Very nice bathrooms with his and her sinks. The staff is very friendly. Additionally, its only a 15-20 minute ride from the airport. This resort is designed for relaxation, there isnt much else to do in the area. Bring a few books and just hang out by the calm, clear warm beach all day. The buffets are hit or miss. Some days breakfast was great other days it was eh. The same with lunch and dinner. I would advise you to make reservations at each of the specialty restaurants the day you arrive. The food was delish at each of those! The resort entertainment leaves something to be desired, but the staff is so friendly who cares about the level of talent. We took an excursion to go shopping off site, the bus driver was friendly but it wasnt worth the trip...we should have used that day to hang out at the resort. I would recommend this resort for singles, couples, all girls trip, etc. We will go back!

Room Tip: We stayed on the side where there was a private pool, where the young folks chose to party...it didn...

We are just back from Iberostar Grand Rose Hall. As all the reviews say, it is a beautiful
hotel, on a lovely beach, everything is first class. I would like to write about Gluten Free
dining at the hotel. I did meet the PR ladies, who gave me a letter to show at the various
restaurants, indicating the Gluten Free requirement. In addition, they contacted the restaurants
where we had reservations, to be sure they were aware. Breakfast is a buffet, I managed
this fine, but I brought my own cereal, crackers and peanut butter. There is no gluten free
cereal available, no breads or crackers, and the peanut butter is in a large bowl, so there would
be a risk of contamination from bread knives. Fruit is plentiful at the buffet and there are
omelette stations, where they use fresh eggs, so that was good too. Lunch is buffet too,
this was tough, the PR lady introduced me to someone who could help me know if food was
gluten free but I never saw her there when I visited, so you must be careful. Salad is plentiful,
I did ask for meat with no gravy or sauce, and that was ok, but it is a buffet and it is busy. One
person told me the burgers were 'safe', no flour, but the next person said they put breadcrumbs
in them, so that could have been a bad situation. There is no gluten free soy sauce available and soy is used to flavor many of the dishes, so that is an issue. You will not be able to eat
the Jerk dishes, Paella's etc as they have gluten of some kind. If you like desserts, this is
going to hurt, the only thing I found was vanilla ice-cream, they do have delicious desserts but
not one seemed to be gluten free. The speciality restaurants were able to accommodate me,
and I had nice meals, favorite was Surf & Turf, Gourmet, Japanese, the Italian was fairly useless
for me and I was hungry after it, the only thing I could get was Lamb Chops, which were tiny
and unsatisfying.
So, all in all, I would recommend the hotel for a great vacation, the ocean is warm and just
steps from the seats. Gluten Free food is available, but you will have to ask and take care
of it yourself, watching everything and being careful, nothing new with that.
I brought some granola bars from home too, as snacks, and they were useful mid morning,
as, again, that would be tricky to find something 'safe' to eat. My husband loved all the
food there and thought it was excellent.
One thing I would have loved, if the palapas were seperated a bit, they are on top of each
other, so when you sit, you are very close to people, which is a shame, it is not easy to
nap, as there are conversations etc going on all around you. I do not know why they crammed
them in so closely, but a little room would have been nicer. All in all, it is a great hotel, with
friendly service and kind people.

Room Tip: We had Oceanfront, 4th Floor, lovely view, high floor is best, to see over the trees

Dear Guest:

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent stay with us. We apologize profusely for the breakdown in communication as it concerns your dietary needs. We will be looking into your complaint with a view to seeing how we can make improvements in the future with this particular request. In the past, we have had other persons who must abide by a “gluten free” diet” and it went smoothly, it would appear though that on this particular occasion, there was not a Kitchen staff to meet with you at each of your dining locations – we regret this inconvenience. Please be assured that we endeavor to look into the situation to make improvements.

We noted there were other positive aspects of your trip namely the friendly service and the majority of our specialty restaurants. It would be a pleasure to host you again and be able to make amends for the issues concerning your dietary restrictions. For other persons who have special diets, we ask that you email us at least two weeks in advance at pr.gran@iberostar.com.jm prior to arrival outlining what special needs you have.
