As the name suggests, this medium-sized pousada is situated between a lagoon-like river and a stunning beach, less than two hours from Salvador. Imbassai is a tranquil, less-contrived alternative to nearby Praia do Forte, and this pousada is right in step with the torpid vibe of the place; expect check-in/out to take some time. We booked on of the seven-or-so bungalows: nicely conceived and appointed, with a decent-sized bathroom and dressing area. Rooms in the main house looked considerably smaller -and I'm guessing less expensive.
Breakfast was tasty and abundant, typical of an upscale pousada.
A few minor complaints: the water in the swimming pool was an alarming shade of green; we didn't dare venture in, but who needs a pool when the ocean is right out your door. Also, the wifi (only available poolside) was down for most of the time we were there, which irritated my Facebook-obsessed friend. Most obnoxious to me was the 8 realistic charged for beach towels.
