“good value friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2010

Have stayed at this hotel many times along with other hotels and nothing is to much trouble for the staff who are very friendly and make you feel most welcome at all times. As indercated the hotel is always kept in a clean and tidy state and our junior suite room had great views of the ocean and are very spacious.Very private location and dont share the beach with any other hotels, easy access to george town with free shuttle bus and public transport in front of hotel which is regular.

It would be very easy to dismiss the Copthorne Orchid from the outside. The exterior looks a bit worse for wear as the climate has taken a toll on the white rendered walls. My travel agent reassured me that looks would be deceiving and she was right. Once you step into the pleasant lobby, it smells very, very clean and fresh which was a pleasant surprise. The room I had was a standard King on level 16 with views across the water. All rooms have a balcony and appear to have been 'freshened up' with a coat of paint recently. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was exceptionally clean. Housekeeping was generous, providing water every day and fresh towels. The bathroom, though a bit dated was spotless and grime-free. The restaurant was good value and the evening buffet was a bargain RM30. Breakfast was good with lots of Malay, Chinese and Western options (the vegetarians in our group were happy with the selections on the menu). The poolside café is open until very late (great for World cup soccer games which were projected onto the wall) and room service was very friendly and efficient. The shuttle service to Batu Ferrenghi and the night market was very good and punctual; I can't fault the service as all staff were delightful. There is free wi-fi poolside and cheap internet access in the lobby. The swimming pool is large and incredibly warm. Beach towels are on the small size but poolside service was very good. Overall this is a solid 3 – 31/2 star performer and I would definitely recommend it as an option if you are happy with the location which is halfway between Batu Ferrenghi and Georgetown.

Penang offers you a perfect holidy if you are enjoying some sea sports with laidback lifestyle. And Jewel of the crown is staying in Copthorne which was very near to all Sea sport activities. Don't miss out Parasailing,Banana Boat, Jet sking, etc.,Copthorne Orchid is real value for money and it offers all facilities at a lowest cost possible. I strongly recommend this hotel

The Hotel Website looked great and was also recommended by the Airline and Travel company - so, we booked here.
We arrived to find the hotel pretty old - that was not a big problem though.
Most staff were pretty courteous (see my comment on the travel desk)
The only good thing about the hotel - they have a pretty good swimming pool and the kids and all of us - enjoyed being there.
The hotel has its private beach - absolutely private - but it can be maintained better.
The breakfast is horrible - and a definite NO NO for vegetarians
There is an Indian Restaurant - Sree Anandha Bhavan - just bang opposite to the hotel - across the main road (which requires a skill to cross during traffic time) - is a great place for some good food - served pretty quick. We almost had all our meals at this place.
The hotel is just on the beach - but only less than 10% of the rooms have a beach front view - and ours did not.
The rooms had a very bad odour and our requests for Air freshners / room change did not work - somehow the bad smell was gone (or did we get used to it?)
The flush did not work properly.
The travel desk was a big disappointment - smoking all the time / talking on the phone - without attending to guests.
The hotel is pretty far away from the main beaches, restaurants and the markets - so, we had to take a cab to go anywhere - all the time.
If you were writing a book / composing music or wanted to stay away from the crowds and preferred a budget hotel - this place can work.
Else - pls look for other choices near Batu Ferringhi.
Happy Holidays..

Thank you for taking time to write this review. We had checked and rectified on your comments of the odour and flush in the room. Hotel is located on the Tanjung Bungah Beach front with the food court, restaurants, convenient store just right across the road. There are bus stops (two ways) just in front of the hotel. Majority of the rooms are at Tower Block with sea-facing balconies and rooms at the Terrace Block next to the sea are with direct sea and beach front view.

We are glad that you and your family enjoyed the hotel swimming pool and the secluded beach, and look forward to your next return.

When we arrive at the Copthorne it is like returning home. In fact, all of the staff greet us with big smiles and a " Welcome home". (And we have only stayed a few times.) We find the hotel very clean, the rooms big and airy, the bed large and comfortable with all the room amenities we require. No request is too much trouble. The dining area is very pleasant with good meals and a buffet breakfast. The pool is big and spotless. The Copthorne is situated halfway between the capital Georgetown and the tourist area at Batu Ferringi which makes it convenient for shopping, dining and sightseeing. A frequent bus service to both areas runs past the door and taxis are always available. The hotel also has a shuttle service. Free Wi-Fi is available in several areas. The Copthorne is a delightful hotel and we would not stay anywhere else while in Penang

Managed to get 3 nights for £100 (on a 50% off-season discount offer). The hotel was beyond my expectations. It had the plush interiors of a much classier hotel without the added expenses. The beach was good with water like bath water. The hotel is located close to some reasonably priced restaraunts so we didn't bother with breakfast when paying for the hotel. Some of the trappings are dated... but who cares when the location and atmosphere is so great. I found all the staff very friendly & even the taxi drivers outside were very helpful.

Nice place to stay, rooms are clean, good location, nearby Indian and Chinese Restaurants. Spa for relaxation, had a body massage in hotel spa. Local buses and taxis are available just outside the hotel. Room service was good and in-time. Pool side restaurent with good ambience and food. Worth to money.
