The Amandari is a good 2nd or 3rd choice restaurant to try out when in Penang. The food was flavorful and the local seafood was fresh but it wasn't outstanding. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated and has a quiet atmosphere but it doesn't have any sort of ambience. Dress code seemed to be more dressy than casual but I don't think it matters. It wasn't too busy when my husband and I dined there but I think reservations are recommended.
The sweet and sour soup was really spicy and the fish dish we ordered was good but a lot of work taking the meat off the bones. The odd thing was that the staff (4 of them) tended to stand by the bar and stare at us while we ate. Overall, it was okay but I wouldn't recommend it over other places in Penang.
