“Location, history, atmosphere!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

I've visited this bar twice, once I sat inside, this was last year, very quiet but pleasant. This year I sat outside on the terrace, it was hot but a great spot, lovely sea views & the best way to describe the experience is 'civilised'. It was very busy inside & there were only 3 staff I think, so service was slow & not very good for a 5 * hotel, however, it didn't bother me that much, they weren't rude just busy and not focused. I ordered Nasi Goreng, it was very average, once again, I wasn't too bothered as I think as an experience it's worth visiting the hotel to enjoy the history of it. I had a good look around the lobby area & particularly enjoyed the guestbook where guests are encouraged to write their previous experiences of visiting the E&O, so some lovely personal stories to read there. Maybe just a drink at Farquhars next time?

“Its a pity they made it so glitzy with prices to match”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

Although its a great spot to stop if you are doing a Georgetown walking tour it will be a costly one.
The renovation somehow has made it look right but at the same time totally all wrong.
Everything is all to shiny and doesn'tsit well together,
For instance the hanging lamps which are meant to sit over the tables instead shine on one persons heads.
One drink here cost as much as dinner for 3 people in a couple of the restaurants we went to near by.

“A pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

Looking for a place to rest our feet and have a cold beer, we fell upon this bar in the E&O Hotel (which was impressive from the outside and the reception area). What I expected to be a typical hotel 'lounge' bar was in fact a proper bar. Great selection of cocktails, and more impressive, especially to this Scotsman, was their malt whisky collection featuring many brands of different ages. I could have happily spent an hour or two (along with a ringget or two) sampling them but the wife dragged me out kicking and screaming.
If in Georgetown, pay a visit.
