Ranked #1 of 11 restaurants in Juayua
Cuisines: Central American
Description: Chef Carlos Careres creates unique entrees combining talents learned while studying in Canada with his El Salvadoran background. We ate at his restaurant, as recommended in Frommer's guide, and it was the best meal we had bar none in El Salvador. The steaks were perfection as was the chicken. He is very creative and incorporates many of the local flavours - one of the steaks was prepared with a coffee rub (Juayua being a coffee growing town). Carlos speaks excellent English and is incredibly hospitable. Our whole meal was delicious and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to Juayua. Also of note, it was one of the least expensive restaurants we visited while in El Salvador!

“A pleasant surprise in Juayua.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

My boyfriend and I ate here twice while in Juayua. I am a vegetarian and the owner of our hotel recommended R y R on our first night there, so we decided to check it out. On our first visit we shared the veggie stir fry dish, which was beautifully presented and delicious and came with a very nice salad with local fruits and a cucumbery-dressing. Head chef Carlos was very welcoming and when we asked for some salsa picante he whipped up a delicious bowl of freshly made hot sauce. We wanted to finish it so we asked for a few tortillas, and ended up with an insanely delicious plate of fried tortillas with cheese and hot peppers. It was perfect.

On our second visit my boyfriend had the steak, and when he couldn't decide which sauce to choose Carlos offered to make a small serving of each on one plate so he could taste them all. It was a ton of food but he really enjoyed it. I had the veggie lasagna, which wasn't as good as the stir fry, but still tasty.

Hands down the most memorable offering here was the peanut (mani) horchata. It is life changingly good. Even if you don't have a chance to eat a full meal here you should stop in to try this drink. I am still craving it.

Ambience is nice, with candles and bird paintings by a local artist on the tables and walls. Sit near the window for good people watching. Service was excellent, our waiter was super friendly and Carlos chatted with us and recommended local sights to see.

It was really refreshing to see such creative cooking being done by a local chef in Juayua - a rare treat in the small towns of El Salvador. Thanks for some great meals and conversation, Carlos and crew :)

“Excellante”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

We had the most wonderful meal at R&R. The food preparation and presentation was superb and the tastes wonderful.... We had a great waiter and the chef came out to greet us and was a great guy. We highly recommend this restaurant - one of the best meals we had in El Salvador. We were supposed to return and pick up some spice from the chef but were unable - sorry. we do not have your contact info, but if you email us at tmvp01@aol.com, we will gladly send you a check for the spice so you can ship it to us. Thanks for a memorable meal.

The atmosphere is wonderful very creative. The food had very unique flavors. It's a nice change from the typical salvadorean dishes. It's my favorite Resturant in this small beautiful town.

“Juayua and R&R - Perfect Compliments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Our stay in Juayua was full of good surprises. The people and town are both genuine and accommodating. The entire experience at R&R was appropriately indulgent. The ambiance and food were reflective of El Salvadorian/Juayua culture. From the beginning of the progressive meal, the eclectic salad stole the show. The entree salads were unique and incorporated local fruits and flavors such as: Fresh Guava Marmalade, mango, dried pineapple, Platanos, Cucumber and avocado. Our Main meals were equally as infused with El Salvadorian infusion. The chefs ability to bring out the flavor in vegetables and fruits was specifically impressive.

The staff were delightful! After the meal, Carlos, the head chef, came to our table to welcome us. Instantly, we felt right at home.

If you are anywhere near Juayua, paying Carlos and his team a visit is a must!

Appetizer salad was great. Other dishes were also tasty. The staff is friendly. We didn't get to meet the senior chef
