Just returned from a fabulous weeks holiday at this hotel following a wonderful weeks cruise of the Adriatic on the Thomsons Majesty cruise ship.
We thought the second week would be a chance to cut back on the lovely food choices on the cruise ship but we were kidding ourselves. The food in the restaurant was first class. We mostly ate outside which was wonderful and if you avoid siting next to the flowers you are not plagued by wasps. We tried to have dinner soon after the restaurant opened most evenings and we didn't ever have a problem getting a table outside.
There was a different themed buffet and carvery every night and the different salad were delicious. The restaurant and bar staff were very professional and very friendly and they brought your drinks to the table which saved you the trouble.
Our room was in the main hotel building and we were very happy when we went into our room. Fabulous big newly refurbished room with fridge, good hair dryer, excellent bathroom and air con. My only complaint (if I was going to complain would be the air con WAS too cold) Left it on one evening when going to bed but had to turn it off again very soon after as it was freezing but then of course it was very hot during the night. Possibly would have been better if it was on the other wall away from the bed,
We had a lovely big balcony with breath taking views over the gardens and across the bay to Corfu Town. It was wonderful watching the boats and ships every morning before going for breakfast.
We usually spent our day down at the main pool and enjoyed our lunch and a glass of wine at the pool restaurant. This was our third holiday this year in a 4 star hotel and the first time we didn't have to be up a the crack of dawn to get sun loungers or parasols. Parasols are cemented into the ground so can't be moved. We had a nightmare in Tenerife in March trying to get beds and parasols. Lots of loungers so no problems there.
Yes its a bit of a hike back up from the pool but we took a path through the bungalows which cut out all the steps and found this a bit easier.
We are aged late 60s/70 so decided not to venture down again for the evening entertainment which was held mainly at the pool bar though they did have some sort of entertainment at the main lounge bar and a couple of time the main event was held here. Though we would have liked to have seen the Three Tenors and the Greek dancing etc but were exhausted by 9.30/10.00 and just sat and relaxed in the bar or on the balcony.
There is a little shop at the entrance to the hotel selling water, papers etc which was we thought very reasonable priced.
We had dinner one night in the Asian restaurant but were just a little bit disappointed with food choices.
Took a walk round the 'resort' of Gouiva one day was very surprised at the state of the place. Not sure if this is down to the financial situation in Greece but very surprised that a previous reviewer would chose to eat out here rather than the lovely hotel food.
Only other comment I would make is about the wine and beer. Not fantastic but drinkable. If I did come back again I would probable look at the drinks menu and be prepared to pay a few euros extra for a good bottle of wine.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday at this hotel. Last time we were in Corfu was about 30 years ago and I vowed then I would never go back. Only thing that would stop me going back to this wonderful hotel was the absolute utter chaotic situation at the airport.
