Description: Roly and Helen Harries took over this traditional village pub in Puddletown, near Dorchester in May 2013. Keeping the very best of the old, they set about combining its warm, friendly country ambience with a cool, airy modern interior - part of a style that is reflected in their approach to the food and hospitality. Something for which this bar and restaurant is rapidly gaining a first-class reputation. The food is home cooked, and where possible the ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally from friends or trusted specialist suppliers. The wines have been chosen to complement the menu, and there is always a range of excellent guest ales on tap.Together with Head Chef Anthoney Riley and his team, they've created a menu that reflects their personal tastes, with a truly international approach - a style that owes as much to the hot islands of the Mediterranean as it does to the classic and everyday dishes of Britain and mainland Europe. Roly and Helen with Children Thomas and Benjamin are passionate about producing the very best food at accessible prices, as well as extending a warm and friendly welcome to locals and visitors alike.

“Much more than a country pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

If you turn off the By-pass and drive into Puddletown Village you will soon spot the Blue Vinny to your right. You could be fooled into thinking that this is just another roadside pub which serves food. You would be way off the mark, it is much more than that. A superbly renovated, very spacious and attractive interior. Fantastic menu and an excellent specials board. This is not pub grub, this is restaurant quality food. Not often I find something I've never tried before but I had Aubergine and Haloumi burger with Sweet Potato fries. Wow!
Great food, friendly unobtrusive service, superb pub setting. This takes some beating. Make sure you book though, word has got out and this is a very popular place. We will certainly return.

“Looking forward to next visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013 via mobile

On visiting Dorset this weekend we stopped at The Blue Vinny for some lunch and drinks having driven past many times.
We were not disappointed. Cosy place although the outside needs a little refurb sooner than later.
Quite busy when we arrived and steadily got even more busier whilst there with what seemed to be regular locals whom many had entered for lunch.
Nice lunchtime menu and also a good selection of baguettes served with a crisp green salad and twice cooked hand cut fries which were to die for. Good selection of beers and lagers and really nice coffee. The place itself is easy to find taking a turn at the traffic lights in Puddletown heading for the A35 bypass and the pub is along that road. We come to this area many times each year and we will be looking forward to dining there in the evening in the not to distant future. Nearly forgot to mention how welcoming the staff were and the service we received was excellent. See you all very soon.

“True Blue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I arrived for lunch, and it was pleasantly full so we were glad we'd booked a table. Bear in mind, this was a Monday lunchtime! Excellent food, a slightly 'different' menu, but nothing so way out it would put off the more reserved types.

Excellent value and great service. What more do you want?

“Great Country Pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Have been here several times and it never fails to impress. Something fro everybody from scampi and chips to guinea fowl and pancetta. Good, varied and reasonably priced wine list, but even better, beer which is properly looked after. Service is casual and charming. Portions large, but not overwhelming. Atmosphere exactly what you want in a country pub, warm with lots of conversation. Can't recommend strongly enough.

“Great food, atmosphere and beer!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

If you are in Dorset don't fail to visit The Blue Vinney in Puddletown. I am lucky, my father-in-law lives in the village and we are only 20 minutes away. There have been loads of times we have thought about where to go out for a meal and ended up agreeing that the Vinney cannot be beaten! Only problem is that it is getting so popular that it is sensible to book well in advance.

What makes it so special? - firstly the food. A great and varied menu with delicious, locally sourced meats including pigeon breast and pork belly to die for! I love the prawn and smoked salmon parcel starter but there is always a wide range on the menu plus an ever changing specials board.
Then there's the atmosphere....because it is so popular there's always lots of people around, You never sit in an empty restaurant. The tables are spread throughout the pub rather than in a separate room. Its fun, sometimes noisy, the hub of the village just as a village pub should be.
And its a free house so it has interesting range of beers including Doombar from Cornwall - one of my personal favourites.
Go there - you won't regret it.
