“Exceptional in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

We stayed at The Repose October 4 & 5, 2013 before leaving Morocco from the Rabat-Sale airport. I chose it because it was close to the airport. Little did I know that this was the best place to stay in Rabat/Sale and perhaps the best in Morocco. Jan, the owner, welcomed us like old friends. She and the 2 women working for her made us feel right at home. We ate dinner there on the first night and it was so good that we decided to eat there the next night. Jan has one set menu each night. When she showed us the menu for night 2 we declined because it was a tangine. We had had too many tangines while in Morocco and wanted something else. When we told her our reason for declining she changed the menu for the night. It, too, was wonderful.

We ended up staying in 2 different rooms (the Arabian room and the Chefchaouen Room) because we extended our time there at the last minute. The rooms are very different and it was fun seeing each of them.

Jan arranged for a taxi to meet us at the rail station when we arrived and to take us to the airport at departure. We had an early flight out and she packed us a breakfast to take with us.

The Repose is a wonderful place to stay. We've traveled to many places in the world and this is one of the best.

Room Tip: Ask for a room off the street. It can be noisy, although it did quiet down about 11:00 pm. The pic...

The final night of our memorable stay in Morocco was spent at The Repose, a wonderful establishment superbly run by Jan, whose attention to detail is phenomenal.
Each room has its own colour scheme, expertly designed and fitted out so that each little whimsy can be fulfilled. Each luxurious bathroom houses a hairdryer and GHD, complete with an array of delightfully perfumed toiletries.
Our five course vegetarian degustation was set on the rooftop, where privacy, space and apt decor are plentiful. Our meal begins with traditional hand washing in rose scented water, poured from a height as we lounge upon cushions against the sun drenched clay wall...and our stay concludes at breakfast on same rooftop in another nook, whereby homemade chocolate brownies (gluten free for myself, and a recipe shared!) nestle invitingly upon their white china resting place...exquisite!
A visit to Morocco would not be complete without a visit to this establishment!

Room Tip: We stayed in the red room, but had a look in the others, they were all exquisite.

We decided to stay at this riad after reviewing the available options in Rabat and Sale. The riad is located in Sale (which is the sister-city of Rabat and divided by a small river). Most of the action and places of interest is in Rabat, so the biggest disadvantage of The Repose is that you have to travel in order to see the sights of Rabat. The tram is the best mode of transport to Rabat, and the walk to the station + tram ride means 20-40min in order to get into Rabat. The service was excellent and we were given a free upgrade for one night when we arrived. The owner (British expat) was friendly and made us feel at home from the very moment we entered through the door. The riad is clean and peaceful. The breakfast served at the roof terrace was amazing and among the best we had during our four week journey in Morocco. All in all, it is a great riad with excellent service, BUT (there is a but) it is not centerally located and I must honestly say that I did not feel 100% safe when returning to the riad late at night. Nothing happened, but even our Moroccan friends were reluctant to let us walk alone from the parking lot and 200m back to the riad.

Jan and Rashid were the perfect host and hostess ! This place is so delightful, each room has a theme, so you can be in Arabia one night and in Africa the next, the Blue room is so.. so pretty.

The dinners are the highlight of this place, no where else will you find these kinds of home cooked vegetarian dinners prepared on site and served to you with all the elegance of a 5 course dinner and they are very affordable. Sure beats tromping around looking for something good to eat !

The girls that work here are very very kind and accomadating I left each of them a pretty good tip. Jan will arrange drivers, tours what ever you want to do all you have to do is ask.

I took a car up to Tangiers, it is much better than riding on the train if you have baggage and such, more expensive, but worth it if you are on holiday and can afford.

I cannot say enough good things about this place and it's owners, they are some of the nicest most professional hosts and hostesses you will find anywhere on the planet. And they are rated one of the best Riads in all of Africa, and Africa is HUGE !!

Room Tip: The Arabian Room and the Chefchouan Room were my favorites, they are larger and cost more but I like...

Our first trip to Morocco, and we struck gold by staying here in Sale rather than Rabat itself. Jan and Rachid were truly welcoming and made us feel like honoured guests in their own home, but with all the professionalism and privacy we could wish for. They have restored the Riad with immense care. Every detail from the special soap in our bathroom to the excellent taxi driver who fetched us from and walked us to the door of the hotel for every trip we made, to the delicious breakfast in the peaceful (and beautiful) roof garden, to the flexibility in our own schedule were superbly taken care of. Jan has made a brilliant map of the area which she took us through herself and gave the impression she had all the time in the world for us, despite no doubt being very busy. She must be, it's a tightly run ship. Sale Medina is hassle free and feels safe. It is where people go about their daily lives, we saw only a couple other tourists while we were there. Go there now!

Room Tip: The Chefchuan suite is on the second floor, bathroom up a short flight of stairs within the room. It...

Two thumbs up! I whole heartedly recommend this undeceiving and pleasant riad to anyone traveling to Rabat/Salé! It is clean, comfortable, quiet and beautifully decorated. Jane and Rashid, owners of the Repose were extremely hospitable, yet discrete.
My friend and I arrived at the Repose in the scorching heat of mid July, exhausted after several hours of driving from Marrakech, for a two night stay and found paradise. This charming riad is located in an old medina which should not be ventured with a car. We were slightly lost in arriving, but a call to Jane quickly resolved that issue-- she guided us to a secure on-street parking where we were met by someone who walked us to the Repose. Once inside, we were greeted by Jane herself who was waiting with a tray of fresh mint tea and heavenly homemade Moroccan pastries. The culinary experience and rooftop/terrace dining are highly applauded. I would not hesitate, for a few Dirhams, to enlist the help of a guide (preferably Rashid) to visit the medina or go shopping in the souk. Once again, BRAVO!

Room Tip: English, French and Arabic are spoken. Do not hesitate to ask Jane or Rashid (owners) for advice

After traveling for three days around Morocco including one night in a berber tent during a camel trek we were overjoyed to stay in the the stylish and tasteful Repose before leaving for home. Jan and staff were amazingly hospitable and we just wish we could have stayed there longer to enjoy more of the medina. They went out of there way to help us arrange taxis, prepare a take out breakfast, and make sure we were comfortable. The dinner on the rooftop deck was fabulous. The rooms were beautifully decorated.

Room Tip: There are just three rooms but they divided one of the double beds to accomodate my two teenage sons...
